Rants & Raves

Comments from readers:

TO THE RANTER concerning the Keystone Pipeline: The questionable number of jobs could be better used to repair U.S. infrastructure rather than tear up thousands of miles laying the pipes.

A RANTER was complaining about the rich not paying their fair share. The ranter must be one of the 49 percent who do not pay any taxes at all.

RAVE TO JUVENILE Court Judge Doug Flanagan for taking a stand on bullying. I totally agree with Judge Flanagan’s views on bullying being abusive, illegal and the fact that bullying will not be tolerated. By the way, no one better come close to even thinking about bullying my grandson.

THIS IS A RANT for sports writer Scott Michaux. Stop blathering over Tiger Woods. He put himself where he is because he is arrogant. And please don’t put his picture in the sports section when he doesn’t win. You should put the winner in. Get over him and write about the great players we have now.

I WOULD LIKE TO know why is it your water bill is the same every month, but if you go outside and pull the cover up, it is so filthy that nobody could read it. Why don’t they read it and give us a decent water bill instead of charging us so much for water and sewage?

A BIG RAVE TO the Hancock County grand jury. Obviously they were very fair in their determination on the football game. They certainly didn’t need to charge anybody in Hancock for it. Those people are OK.

THOSE THAT LOVE Mr. Dean and his family, please don’t forget them. Write a little note to his wife. Those with a lot of money can put up scholarships and help those children. He is not an outcast. Judge Blanchard should have been more lenient. People that kill and rape don’t get that much time.

WHY DON’T ALL you Republicans and Obama haters come on out and say what you mean when you say you want to take back the country. You know what you want to say, but you just won’t say it.

I AM SORRY Jon Huntsman gave up. He had the hottest wife and the best-looking daughters of anyone in the race.

If the census estimates are

If the census estimates are similar to the Business Journal estimates.. Then Augusta's MSA will gain more people than the CSA's of Columbus, Savannah, and Macon..
http://www.bizjournals.com/bizjournals/on-numbers/scott-thomas/2012/01/p...
Augusta 556,877 - 570,510 = 13,633
Savannah 347,611 - 358,525 = 10,914
Columbus 294,865 - 298,289 = 3,424
Macon 232,293 - 233,689 = 1,396

Columbus 298,289 + Auburn-Opelika 145,248 + Tuskegee 21,398= 464,935
Savannah 358,525 + Hinesville-Fort Stewart 76,200= 434,725
Macon 233,689 + Warner Robins 145,731 + Fort Valley 28,532= 407,952

1. Augusta = 13,633 (2.)Savannah = 9,197 (3.)Columbus = 8,371 (4.)Macon = 8,064

1. Columbia 791,614 (24,016); (2.) Charleston 688,307 (23,700); (3.) Greenville 652,076 (15,090); (4.) Augusta 570,510 (13,633)

Imagine if we had the residential, retail, research park, and multi-use stadium at the GGHF site.. Additonals bike lanes/sidewalks around the city, expanded bus service(time & location), Augusta greenway(connects Medical District and the CBD without car transportation), and the renovation of the Regency Mall.. I'll wait on the rail because were aren't progessive enought yet.. Anyway our city could easily separate from Charleston, Greenville, Knoxville, Columbia, Greensboro, Chattanooga, Madison, Little Rock, Savannah, Des Moines, Boise, etc in no time..

Thank goodness....NCLB is

Thank goodness....NCLB is getting left behind.....
A big boondoggle in my humble opinion......some kids need to be left.....they disrupt the classroom---take resources---cause so much trouble that the others can't learn.....
Kick their fannys out--make the parents home school---watch how fast things will change..........I wish I could have my way for a few months...I would turn the school system upside down...

"Imagine if we had the

"Imagine if we had the residential"

I'm still trying to imagine if we had residential on the 7000 acres the county forcibly rezoned to Residential 10 years ago, raised the taxes on, and then paid for and adopted a study that said "discourage development south of Spirit Creek". How about a re-do on that rezoning. Seems like it should be illegal to rezone someone's property, raise the taxes, and then officially adopt a study that discourages the fulfillment of the use of the property for the purpose for which it was rezoned. Or was that the purpose? Or was it simply a tax revenue grab like the rest of Consolidation.

The water meter is read

The water meter is read electronically with a scanner. They no longer have to open it and physically read it.

My water meter was buried and

My water meter was buried and impossible for anyone to read. I had a gathering of my neighbors to verify the fact, then called the water dept. A few days later I had a new, electronic read meter. That was 2 years ago. My next door neighbor now has the same problem( no way the meter reader can take a reading) but they have yet to change out her meter. Still "reads" it the old way. She has called again.

Isn't this pipeline a private

Isn't this pipeline a private sector project that hires people and produces tax revenue? Repair of the infastructure is a tax revenue "user". So the revenue producer comes first!
