Family of 2011 drowning victim plans memorial service

  • Follow Metro

A North Augusta man who drowned while fishing at Thurmond Lake a year ago will be remembered by friends and family during a public memorial service at 2 p.m. Saturday at the lake’s Visitors Center on the South Carolina side of the dam.

Scott Craig, 36, vanished on Jan. 22, 2011, while fishing alone in his 15-foot boat, which had capsized. Volunteers joined Georgia and South Carolina officials and Corps of Engineers rangers in a search that ended four weeks later with the recovery of his body.

This weekend marks the one-year anniversary of his death and family members plan to have a DJ who will play Craig’s favorite songs, along with a Harley group’s motorcycle ride from Pollards Corner and a special song his daughter will sing. Anyone is welcome to attend.
