Crews respond to woods fire in Columbia County

Columbia Road was closed for hours Saturday afternoon after heavy smoke from a woods fire near Patriot’s Park limited visibility.

The fire was reported about 12:45 p.m. and caused smoke to cloud Columbia Road between William Few Parkway and the Ivy Falls subdivision, Columbia County Emergency and Operations Director Pam Tucker said in an e-mail.

Ten units from Martinez-Columbia Fire Rescue responded to the fire. The Georgia Forestry Commission also sent a tractor and plane to help extinguish the blaze.
