Rants & Raves

A HUGE RANT FOR the veterinary clinics for what you are charging for treating a sick animal – $800 for an overnight stay? Be real. That is more than a human has to pay. That is why we have so many sick animals in this world. You are greedy, and it is very uncalled for.

IT’S PATHETIC. We have had two law enforcement agents killed in two months. It’s really a shame. The guy in South Carolina with three kids is killed by a felon who should have been in jail. Why wasn’t he? There is something wrong with the judicial system. I wish law enforcement and the judicial system would take a stand.

A RANT AGAINST Augusta Commission member Alvin Mason on his domestic violence case. Why isn’t he resigning? He would be calling on other commissioners to resign if it involved them. Why does he get special privileges? I have had friends who went to jail for family violence and had to sit in jail for three or four days. Can someone answer that?

A RANT FOR CHRIS on Channel 12. Why aren’t you doing something about Alvin Mason and investigating him? C’mon, let’s be fair. Let’s not discriminate.

ALVIN MASON, you voted to fire. What goes around comes around. Happy New Year!

MY MAMA ALWAYS said good things come to those who wait. I opened the paper and got wonderful news. Steak and Shake is coming to Columbia County. I love me some Steak and Shake. It made my day.

AT THE CHILDREN’S Medica Center the waiting room was very nice, but there was a rude lady who kept flipping the TV channel. My choice is to put the TV in a cage so that only the staff can change it.

I WOULD LIKE TO respond to the person who asked if the tea party members were at the state Capitol in Columbia, would they be allowed to stay. First of all, us tea partiers have to work every day so we wouldn’t be there at all. Second, we wouldn’t do it on general principle of destroying our beautiful state Capitol. It’s time these guys wake up, get a job and get a life.

MY RANT IS FOR the poor people in town who can’t afford pants and skirts. They come to stores in their pajamas. Apparently, they just get out of bed and come to the stores. It looks so pitiful. I want to buy them some pants. It’s the way our society is going; people are so sloppy now.

You know countyman I read

You know countyman I read where you said I need to come down & ride through LaneyWalker & see the improvements...you are right ....next time I'm there I will do that....please keep in mind....just changing ones location won't always change the mindset....most of them need good paying JOBS....with DECENT pay.....something our leaders have sent away....
A good job will give incentive to build a better life-move into a decent neighborhood-& improve ones lifestyle......sometimes putting a low income person in a nice neighborhood only makes them resentful of what others can afford & they can't.

Actually you can ride through

Actually you can ride through Laney Walker or Bethlehem and see the improvements.. Laney Walker had less vacant homes, and it's closer to the CBD and Medical District.. The neighborhood is further along compared to Bethlehem...

Make sure you ride down 9th street between Laney Walker and Walton Way.. Then check out the flagship neighborhood of Laney Walker(Heritage Pine) located on 9th between Laney Walker and Wrightsboro rd.. New homes were built on Holley street(Holley Commons) between Laney Walker and Wrightsboro rd.. The House of Prayer is building a mix-use development along Wrightsboro/11th street(residential for seniors and retail).. The city is behind the residential coming to Wrightsboro rd between 12th and 13th..

It's going to take several years to rejuvenate both of the neighborhoods.. The proximity of Laney Walker to the Medical District and CBD offers a tremendous opportunity... The CBD and Medical District are two major employers in the city..

It doesn't hurt when you continue to receive national and statewide recognition either.. From Harvard leaders, Georgia Planning Association, Triple Pundit, and the American Institute of Architects..

The Laney Walker-Bethlehem redevelopment will be presented at the 2012(Feb 2nd-4th) New Partners for Smart Growth Conference in San Diego.. The session is called “Restoring the American City: Augusta, GA and Laney Walker/Bethlehem.”

Dear Santa, I know this is a

Dear Santa, I know this is a late request but given the story below…

“U.S. Navy Ship Saves Iranians From Pirates”

“SIEGEL: But back to today's rescue of the Iranians who'd been held by the pirates. In the movies, this would lead to a sudden warming of relations with Tehran and everything would be happy. Not today, huh?

BOWMAN: Oh, no warm relations yet and actually no word at all from the Iranian government about what happened here. The Navy does say the Iranian fishing boat captain, however, was very thankful. And that some of the clothing the Iranians got, there's some talk that includes U.S. Navy t-shirts. But no firm word on whether than happened or not.

(SOUNDBITE OF LAUGHTER)”

http://www.npr.org/2012/01/06/144801655/u-s-navy-ship-saves-iranians-fro...

Can you make sure these fishermen get to keep their U.S. Navy t-shirts?

Best regards, Popeye

Somewhere I read that some high ranking Iranian military official dismissed the rescue as a "Hollywood stunt."

For the, "where we are

For the, "where we are headed, California first," department of the news: The Greek government (the one unable to pay for the current welfare state they erected) has decided to include several new forms of mental disability which qualify for medical and financial assistance. The most recent additions are kleptomaniacs, exhibitionists, and what list would be complete without it- pedophilia.

Sigh.

Heavy sigh.

Dang, what a day I had. If anyone ever seriously thinks they have a tough, stressful job, let them follow me around and I'm sure they will agree mine is the most stressful they have ever seen.

Who was the Chronicle person who took me up on the offer that one time? Let's do it. If you don't agree I have the most amazing job you have ever seen I'll kiss your keyboard right on Broad Street.

Ahhh, about number 3.

Ahhh, about number 3. Protamine is the reversal agent for the anticoagulant, heparin. Know where it comes from? The sperm of salmon. Know how it's obtained? Rub your index finger and thumb together and you get the idea.

Greece also allows hair

Greece also allows hair stylist/hair dressers (The politically correct term for persons who do female people's hair eludes me at this time) to retire early (50 or 55?) because of contact with chemicals in hair dye.....

In America one can retire to the government dole at an early age by dropping out of school, having multiple births, be unable to hold down steady employment and unable to fight your addictions.

Bright Future: G. Brad

Bright Future: G. Brad Lewis/Getty; Sony; Jim McIsaac/Getty
The fishing industry discards thousands of tons of salmon sperm every year (it ruins the taste). Now Andrew Steckl, a photonics expert at the University of Cincinnati, has figured out how to use the refuse to get a 10-fold boost in the brightness of the organic light-emitting diodes used in cellphones, PDAs and some TVs.

LEDs create light as negatively charged electrons in the circuit interact with positively charged “electron holes.” When an electron enters a hole, they combine energies and emit some as light. But electrons often zip past holes without merging, which is why LEDs tend to be dim. But a film of DNA taken from salmon sperm, Steckl found, creates an energy barrier that slows electrons enough that the holes can better attract electrons, merging with them more often and emitting more light. (Any DNA would work, but salmon sperm is easily acquired.)

Because “BioLEDs” use cheap renewable materials instead of precious rare metals, Steckl expects that in a decade or so, they will be common in TVs, cellphones and other gadgets with a display—which sounds pretty good to the world’s salmon fishermen. “They’re so excited,” he says, “that I can’t keep them at bay.”

DANG...The things we learn on here----who sez we are stoopid rednecks!!!
