Rants & Raves

Comments from readers:

PROHIBITING CELL PHONE use for drivers under 18 is about the stupidest law there is anywhere. Is it any safer for a 19-year-old or a 50-year-old? No. It’s the mind that’s engaged and it’s called multi-tasking. Keep your mind on staying alive!

DEAR CSRA NEWS MEDIA outlets, please quit publishing/announcing the monthly average price of gasoline in the area. Every time y’all do, gas goes up between 10 and 15 cents per gallon. Please quit.

STILL HAVE A JOB? Keep buying Chinese products and voting for Democrats and that will change.

A RAVE TO THE young lady who purchased groceries for me at the North Augusta Bi-Lo Saturday evening. This is a perfect example of what this season is all about.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU. Welcome back Parade. We’ve waited long enough. Thanks, Chronicle.

OUR GOVERNMENT works best on a two-party system: one party negative and one party positive. Put them together and they produce the sparks that run the country.

A RAVE AND RANT for Wesley United Methodist Church. You have a great program helping others, but to pay $115 on a handbag?

A RANT AGAINST the tea party. I am a Republican, but because of the tea party’s extreme unwillingness to compromise even with their own Republicans, nothing can get done in the country, in the House or the Senate. Because of the tea party, the whole political process is being held up.

I WOULD LIKE to thank the Augusta Fire Department for the fruit baskets that they give the widow ladies every year. It is very thoughtful of them.

FIREMEN GOT RAISES. Why haven’t the police officers gotten a raise?

A STUDY JUST released said the average family spent $1,300 more on gas the past year than in 2007, which is the same amount a family will save with Obama’s proposal. Democrats like high gas prices!

I WOULD LIKE to see more information on festivals, concerts, art displays, plays and such in cities nearby such as Atlanta, Charlotte, Columbia, Savannah, Charleston, etc. There is so much going, newspaper’s No. 1 priority is to keep readers informed; I say keep us informed in all areas.

I've been posting this

I've been posting this morning over on the CCNT, swimming over the moats, shooting arrows (no offense Many Arrows) up into the castle of county government. Columbia County needs a spring internet led revolution to clean out that government from top to bottom. Now is the time to get rid of that corrupt dictatorship on all levels. You know how they shouted, "Wolverines" in the movie? Our chant will be "Magnolia Trace!!!"

"Because of the tea party,

"Because of the tea party, the whole political process is being held up."

Just think of it as the political process being constipated. The TEA Party is telling us it's time to swallow our Castoria. The old style Republicans (who helped create this problem) are "compromising" with Democrats and telling us we might need to think about eating a little fiber. For all of this "compromising" we have raised the debt ceiling about another $2.5 trillion in the past year or so and we have not cut a nickel's worth of spending. Maybe the TEA Party is not the problem here. Maybe we just need to send some more TEA Party people to the Senate and the Presidency. I don't necessarily agree with every TEA Party representative's proposals but it is apparent that the old style Republicans and all of the Democrats are incapable of reducing spending. In fact, every time the Democrats propose tax increases they also propose more spending programs that will eat up the tax increases. The facts prove that tax increases will not make a dent in our debt. If you believe that we need to reduce our debt by cutting spending, the TEA Party representatives seem to be the only ones willing to do that. I think it's time to open wide, hold our nose, and swallow the Castoria. I might not like everything that happens but I am ready for some "movement".

It appears to be a fact few

It appears to be a fact few members of Congress want to compromise on cutting spending and reducing government even when the tax base is not what it use to be and entitlement costs are exploding.

Its time to compromise on that $661 Billion military budget ($118B for Iraq and Afghanistan) and time to elect someone with the political courage to fix Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid (57 percent of the budge).

Without change, there will be no hope......

It should be against the law

It should be against the law for anyone to drive with a cell phone stuck up to their ear. Thos phones have speakers. Put it on speaker and lay the phone down and talk as if the person on the phone is in the car. That way you have 2 arms and hands to drive.

A friend just told me that

A friend just told me that Harrahs at Cherokee had a bad bomb scare last week----never saw it in the news..

Bomb Detonated at Harrah's Cherokee Casino
Harrah's Cherokee Casino, located on the Cherokee Indian Reservation in Cherokee, NC, received a bomb threat on Wednesday evening, December 28. Thousands of guests and employees were evacuated from the casino and adjoining hotel at 8:00 p.m. as federal agents were being flown to the reservation by helicopter.

Seenit...if all the bomb

Seenit...if all the bomb scares and threats ever made were in the news, nobody would leave their house for fear. Another point of view in this is that media coverage of a bomb threat tends to increase the number of copy cat incidents. When I lived in NY we had a rash of bomb threats in the school district. The media was covering them extensively...and they were increasing exponentially. Once they announced they were going to stop covering them unless something turned out to be real, the bomb scares dropped like a bag of bricks.
