Rants & Raves

Comments from readers:

AS MUCH AS it seems that folks don’t have manners anymore, I was pleasantly surprised to find that virtually all of my trick-or-treaters last week said, “Thank you!” and an occasional “Have a good night!”

RAVE TO Scott Michaux for taking time to research and e-mail an article to me regarding the health status of an injured Rutgers football player who I am concerned about. Please keep up the good work in your articles.

U.S. REP. MICHELE Bachmann said the EPA a “job-killing” agency. Clean water and air? Who needs it? It seems like every time Bachman opens up her mouth, something really stupid comes out.

REPUBLICANS SAY it is class warfare to ask millionaires and billionaires to pay their fair share of taxes. But the only class warfare we’ve seen has been aimed at the middle class – by Republicans and it must end!

NOWADAYS, municipal governments pay “executive search firms” to do the work the local governments should do. Taxpayers pay the bills. and who knows what kinds of clowns the exec firms will send in? Now Fred Russell might get a fatter job in Florida. Quick, let him go!

LESS THAN HALF of Georgia’s fourth- and eighth-graders read and do math with proficiency. Is “below half” a sign that public schools are working hard to make kids dumber? Clearly, those who strut around calling themselves “educators” aren’t doing much educating.

WHY IS THE PHRASE “for failing a drug test” hidden 11 paragraphs inside the “Bulldogs suspend 3 tailbacks” story? What are such duffers doing in college, much less probably being paid so-called scholarships for playing a game?

A RANT FOR Wells Fargo. Wachovia’s online systems are far superior to Wells Fargo’s.

A RANT TO THE cruel person in the red truck who left a dead black dog on White Oak Campground road Oct. 30. You are so cruel and thoughtless. I hope you did not shoot the dog.

I WAS THINKING about moving from Augusta to Columbia County but the crime there has passed the crime in Augusta. They are getting younger and committing more crimes. I might as well stay in Augusta. I didn’t know Columbia County was that bad. Every time I pick up the paper, it’s Columbia County.

Many people live with the fear of crime in todays world....so different today ....sometimes we hear some have had 3--4 breakins....can we blame it all on drugs...society...1 parent household ...or just plain look the other way because we just don't have enough police....some on here have stated how we support the police & want more $$$ going toward that department......the problem is the elected officials have to vote & budget the dollars to flowthat way---They "ain't gonna" til you (thepublic) make a ruckus about the crime......
To the last ranter----it's everywhere---every county.

This is a rant to the logging

This is a rant to the logging truck on Mike Padgett highway Monday at 9:20 a.m. that ran the red light at the airport entrance. If I had not looked to my left from Tobacco Rd. you probably would have killed me because I had the green light for at least 5 seconds. Police could write tickets all day long at every light in Augusta because people obliviously think yellow means speed up. Unbelieveable!

"the EPA a “job-killing”

"the EPA a “job-killing” agency. Clean water and air? Who needs it?"

Give me a break. Of course we want clean water and air. But we do not need to an agency that forces us to have a time consuming and expensive EPA study every time someone wants to fill in a mud puddle or dig a hole. The EPA has overstepped it's original intent and, in fact, has become the biggest job killer and drag on the economy. The EPA is one of the contributing factors that have driven most manufacturing overseas. Protecting air and water quality is one thing. Preventing a factory from being built because of a lizard or an ant that MAY OR MAY NOT be impacted is an agency out of control.

Burglars continue to hit

Burglars continue to hit homes and businesses in Augusta neighborhoods. A total of 72 break-ins occurred during the week. The emergency response areas of Wheeless Road and Richmond Hill had the highest number of burglaries, seven each. The most burglaries took place on Friday.

This info.is on the crime map post....question......If the police KNOW where most of the crime is going on ...why not put more police patrol there....in other words Make their life miserable...

Rant to the traffic gods:

Rant to the traffic gods: During master's y'all cater to the out of town guests by keeping the traffic running smoothly on Washington Road, where are you all now? The taxpayers of Augusta, need you all to make our commute in the a.m./p.m. from and to downtown as smooth as the tourists, why can't that happen? why??????

I'm glad they busted the

I'm glad they busted the illegals & their employer in Columbia County. Maybe now they'll hire Americans. Next, they can look into these illegal crews coming in from Atlanta.

Paying that "fair share" of

Paying that "fair share" of income tax......and 'tax loopholes' for them rich people plays very well to those uneducated folks who haven't a clue to what's really 'fair' and who really created those ' tax loopholes' (aka tax laws).....

Class warfare/wealth envy verses Capitalism. Food stamps & unemployment checks verses gainful employment. Democrats and the liberals must be loving their chances for 2012 in all '57' states........

The person who ranted about

The person who ranted about the math scores needs to come "educate" the little darlings for a few weeks then they can understand why kids are not learning. Poor parenting is the real problem.
