A retired Aiken County deputy was killed Saturday morning when his motorcycle crashed on Bettis Academy Road in Aiken County.
Law enforcement authorities think Deputy Sheriff Ernest Bussell, 64, lost control of his 2001 Harley Davidson motorcycle after crossing a railroad track at 6:35 a.m., according to Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton.
He died at the scene of the accident.
Toxicology tests are pending, Carlton said.
My prayers to the family. I've known Bussell for a long time and he has been riding most of his life.I don't know what happened but I do know he was very responsible and saftey minded. I also would be very surprised if anything positive is found in toxicology.
