Augusta Canal Authority receives tourism award

The Augusta Canal Authority was honored Sept. 14 as the recipient of the 2011 Tourism Product Development Award for its ongoing improvements to the Augusta Canal National Heritage Area.

The award was presented during the Governor’s Conference on Tourism last week in Macon, Ga.

Jeannie Buttrum, the Georgia Department of Economic Development’s Classic South Regional Tourism Representative, received the Tom Kilgore Lifetime Achievement Award for the contributions she has made to the region’s tourism industry during the past 21 years.
