Rants and Raves

MOST OF THE “RAISES” the Augusta Commission wants to recover from employees are the result of reclassifications and promotions that reflect added responsibilities. Apparently the commission is running out of lawsuits to settle and want to generate some new ones.

RAVE: ELEGANT BRIDALS. Seriously the MOST amazing experience a bride could ask for! Their staff has been so completely helpful and caring about my wedding. Thank you a thousand times ladies!!!

I THINK OUR appearance says a lot about what we are and what we want to be. But the way our young boys and girls dress, they don’t care about who they are or what they want to be ... which isn’t much.

SOME POLITICIANS have made comments about Gov. Rick Perry’s intelligence. This is amusing to me since this is the party that elected Joe Biden as vice president. Just saying!!!!!

OOPS! RESPECT AND disrespect are verbs, as well as nouns! Check your dictionaries! I did.

IN RESPONSE TO a rant in (Aug. 31) paper, “Disrespect and respect are NOT verbs. They are nouns.”

Disrespect and respect are nouns AND transitive verbs. See dictionary for further details.

ECON 101: The government always wastes 50 percent of its budget. Twenty percent is because of no competition and the inability to purge bad employees.

Thirty percent will go toward securing next year’s budget. It’s government, not corporations, hosing us. The faith they can run anything well is a deadly miscalculation.

GETTING ON RIVERWATCH Parkway (toward Augusta) has become very dangerous at the point where three lanes become two. People whiz around in the right lane, knowing the lane is running out. But, instead of getting over long before the lane ends, they fly up and force their way over at the last moment. This is beyond rude – it is highly dangerous.

I PERSONALLY THINK Mr. Russell should have been the first one to be shown the door. Just because you have the authority to do something, does not mean you use poor judgment, as I think he did. If we have the money to give 15 percent raises (retroactive) to some employees because they were getting additional duties, then why not keep the employees being let go and then there would not be additional duties for some? However, Mr. Alvin Mason needs to remember that his name is “Alvin,” not “Perry.”

A RAVE FOR THE young woman who stopped her car and picked up my bag and belongings that had fallen off the bumper of my fire truck, I was so grateful and tried to offer her a reward but she totally refused. It was very uplifting for me to see that Good Samaritans still exist in this town! She didn’t even tell me her name, but you know who you are! Thank you very much again, and God Bless You!

Ranter#1, Nice try. Ranter

Ranter#1, Nice try.

Ranter #4, Agreed, having a pleasing appearance is good, but not nearly as important as one's heart and actions. It is true, you can't always judge a book by it's cover.

Ranter#5, Not to mention, the President for Change.

For years on the now defunct

For years on the now defunct Augusta Chronicle bulletin board "The Forum" I argued that the protracted, costly, unwinnable, illegal, counterproductive, and endless U.S. wars in Iraq and Afghanistan were pushing the U.S. military (U.S. Army in particular) toward a breaking point. I also argued these wars were bankrupting America. Right wing reactionaries called me crazy.

I saw the Republican debate

I saw the Republican debate last night & loved it!!

They took some good shots at each other----I feel one of the people on that stage will be our next President....I think Wolf felt that too.

Here is the problem about

Here is the problem about cutting back on fire & police departments...

Last month a fatal house explosion shook aFulton county area....the house exploded in flames & set off the nearby house...the nearest station had NO working fire truck.....this truck had been loaned to another station because it's truck was out of service....4 other stations had problems with no backup truck so the Chief had to put the trucks they were needed most.....what's wrong with this picture------

We have cut backon police-fire-safety & until something like this happens
we don't realize the danger.....we need to wake up folks & start DEMANDING our taxdollars go where WE WANT & NOT WERE POLITICIANS WANT....it happens in Richmond -Columbia county too!!

The wars are breaking us. The price of wars is too high. The main reason our country is going broke is we are fighting other country's wars. We need to bring our troops home now.

Gwinnett county will cut back on library hours ...from 53to 40hours....imo having a library open in the evening & weekends is important for kids in school.....some use the computers at the library...

We are paying a price for all the spending in the wrong places......we need to think about the USA again..

We bet this is from one of those stuck up "public servants" who wouldn't think of soiling their hands with real work so they con us out of paying them $10,000. a month to have anything to do with us.

Human resources should be fired and all their pay refunded to us.

EVERYONE knows it's a HIRERS market out there and these $10,000. a month "public servants" can be replaced with MUCH BETTER public servants for about $5,000. a month or less. It's called the law of supply and demand. When these types are standing in the unemployment line and it snakes ALL THE WAY around the building that means there is much greater supply of these folks which makes their salaries plummet in the REAL world. We WANT OUR MONEY BACK and there are laws and procedures where we can get our money back.
How long will Augusta take BEING SCREWED!

15.1 percent of America now

15.1 percent of America now live in poverty...why can't poverty be 'cut back' under this president? Does he really care about poor people?

Appears to be no 'cut back' in unemployment for the next 5,6,8 or 10 years, depending upon which report you refer to...why can't the government 'cut back' on unemployment?

Incarceration is costing Georgia alone cost about $3.5 billion a year. And recidivism is about 70 percent...definitely need some 'cut backs' in these numbers.

High school drop outs...There should be substantial 'cut backs' in this number. How can we 'win the future' without decreasing the number of kids who fail to graduate?

Police and fire protection are going to be in greater demand if our government can't effect cut backs in places -- other than in the very people we will be counting on more and more in the future if significant 'cut backs' don't occur where needed the most.

seenit you are right, but

seenit you are right, but these useless wars are expensive. Why not get out and let those countries fight their own wars? We have enough problems here at home without trying to rule the world. Our soldiers are dying for what? so Cheney and others can get richer. It's all about greed. How much longer can we afford those wars?

Is that Rod Serling I hear talking? Is there a rip in the fabric of the space time continuum? I would have sworn Obama was President and Biden was....well....Vice-President.
