The board consists of three appointees by Gov. Nathan Deal, two appointees by Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle and two by House Speaker David Ralston.
The panel was created under House Bill 87 and will review and investigate complaints related to illegal immigration. It will also hold the authority to sanction anyone violating Georgia's immigration law, according to a news release.
Kent is the president of Phil Kent Consulting Inc., an Atlanta-based public relations and media company. He is the national spokesman of Americans for Immigration Control, a panelist on the public affairs programThe Georgia Gang and CEO of the American Seniors Association.
He is the former president of the Southeastern Legal Foundation and a former press secretary to the late U.S. Sen. Strom Thurmond. A former second lieutenant in the Army, Kent and his wife, Bonnie, live in Sandy Springs, Ga.
