Readers conquer summer postcard challenge

Victory.

Once again you have answered our annual summer vacation postcard challenge and found a summertime greeting from all 50 states (and the District of Columbia).

Thank you.

The last state to come in was Wyoming, which looked like it might elude us this year until Dr. Fred and Jean Silva sent in greetings from Jackson Hole. "Read that you were missing Wyoming," they wrote, "and here were are this week!"

Thanks again to all of you for sending those hundreds of postcards, including these:

Lynn and Greg Hall , of Aiken, finally got us a postcard from Oregon. "We grew up and went to school in Oregon before moving ... " they wrote. Brandon Givens also sent an Oregon card, hoping "to help with the challenge."

A big group sent a card from North Myrtle Beach including Loretta , Rick , Chrystal , Matt , Scarlett , Victoria , Kelley , Aubrey , Bronson and Nikk .

Another group sent a "Yo-Ho-Ho" from Pirateland Family Camping Resort in Myrtle Beach. They were Kaleigh , Jessica , Sam , Haydn , Otis , Janice , Holly and "Joy ."

Sandra and Shirley Johnson and mom Jacqueline are in the Bahamas on a birthday cruise, and also sent a card from Grand Cayman.

Jesse A. Murga , of Augusta , sent greetings form Montana's Big Sky Country.

My old baseball buddy Lamar Garrard sent a wonderful vintage postcard showing Clark Hill Dam. He was in Toccoa watching 9-year-old grandson Josiah Garrard and the Martinez-Evans team in the Little League playoffs.

L.W. Helmly Jr. and son Wayne were in Dayton, Ohio, attending the national Chevrolet Nomad convention. Their postcard shows a neat 1955 station wagon. Mr. Helmly says his Nomad is a 1957.

Esau and Catherine Butler visited New York City and enjoyed it very much.

Jin and Russell Brown , of Grovetown, write: "We were in Newport, R.I., and I meant to send you a postcard but forgot. I even memorized your mailing address. Just another senior moment, I guess"

That's OK, folks. We got a Rhode Island card from Ella Davidson , of Aiken. It shows a dog riding the carousel at Watch Hill.

Greg Brooks , of Evans, saw the Braves-Rockies game in Denver at Coors Field. He also sent a card showing Pikes Peak.

Steve Eubanks sent a West Virginia card from the 3,000-mile motorcycle trip through the East Coast mountains.

The Hodges clan, Pat , Boogie , Layla , JoAnn , Deana and Jayme were in Panama City.

And James and Camilla Hooper , of Edgefield, were in Atlantic City and New York.

TODAY'S JOKE: Leave it to Seth Benson , of Millen, to share this one.

It seems Bubba and Johnny Ray were sitting on the front porch drinking a beer when a large truck hauling rolls of sod drove by.

"You know," Bubba said, "that's what I'm gonna do when I win the lottery."

"Do what?" Johnny Ray asked.

"Send my grass out to be mowed," Bubba said.
