Rants & Raves

Comments from our readers:

The people of the area ought to thank God we don't live close to the Mississippi River. God help those people.

This is a rant for the Richmond County yard waste pickup, and, well, the whole recycle the whole garbage, everybody. Those guys pick up what they feel like picking up. They put the recycle in the garbage truck. I've called. They said, "Oh yeah, well, we'll talk to their supervisor." Well what good does that do? My garbage man laughs at me about recycle. He says, "Oh yeah, I just back in next to the garbage truck and dump it." Well, why? Why doesn't somebody in Augusta wake up?

To the person who slammed my pretty black Lexus with your car door Wednesday evening between 5:45 and 6:45 at the Evans Rhinehart's. Karma has a way of getting her revenge. Just so you know, I grew up in a national forest with no running water and a wood-burning stove for heat. I wasn't born with a silver spoon in my mouth, I worked and put myself through college at night and I worked for everything I have. I hope you feel like the mongrel you are.

This is a rant about the speeding and the problems on Highway 56 and having the police blanket that area. Actually, the area is not just confined to Highway 56. If Richmond County and their deputies want to really make an impact, they could make cases all over the county, especially down the Bobby Jones Raceway.

This is in regard to the article in yesterday's paper: Columbia County Board of Education raising taxes. If they would eliminate the fat over on the Hereford Farm office and in the schools, such as principals. You do not need five or six principals in each school. You do not need the overstaff they've got . It's time they clean out the top ones first before cutting the teachers and the other employees. Why not cut those who are already being paid way too much money? We the taxpayers will stand up and fight for our taxes not to be raised.

I am sure that you will not hear this question asked by the media during the next campaign. Ask yourself the next time you are at the pump putting in $60 to fill up your four-cylinder Toyota. Ask yourself the next time you at the grocery paying $133 for what cost $100 in 2007. Are you better off now than you were four years ago?

Why do reporters ask such stupid questions? What felon is going to admit on local news that he killed somebody?

This is a rave to the person who made a rant in the newspaper against New York. They said, "I see they think New York thinks that they're entitled to the bounty on Osama bin Laden. They've already been paid some money. Why don't we take that money and give it to the military families and the underpaid military." I totally agree with that. The money should go to the military and their families.

To the ranter about the CC

To the ranter about the CC school system. Your comments are very far off base and was futher reported by The News Times Editor, Barry Paschal. First, no school has 6 principals, they each have a principal and then they have an assistant or additional assistants based on pupil enrollment acording to SACS standards & requirements. Most elementary and middle schools have one assistant principal and the high schools may have as many as 3 but to say they have 6 is just outright not acurate.

Second, you say they have plenty of waste on Herfford Farm Road at the BOE office. In reality, the BOE offices of Columbia County are staffed in full with less than 2% of the overall budget. The average school system BOE office spends 6.5% of their budger on BOE administration. This means that the CCBOE spend less than 50% of the average school system on administration and their graduation and college prep rates FAR EXCEED most other school systems in the state.

Complain all you want about the CCBOE but at least be fair about it. They are operating far less per pupil than other school systems and are excelling in most all areas, especailly when compared to neighboring systems.

As for the ranter asking if we are better off than we were prior to Obama...well, most of us don't even have any change left in our pockets due to this administrations policies so that is a big fat NO...Obama and party fooled many the first time around but most have woken up and see that the path they have taken us down is far worse than where we were before and a lot of their spending hasn't even taken effect as of yet.

Not when compared to the

Not when compared to the academic achievement of Davidson Fine Arts School. As far as Obama goes, I remember hearing a couple of folks saying how bad things were shortly after Obama was elected president. So I had to ask them, do you really think all of this is Obama's fault? They finally admitted in was the previous administration's fault, however, it their opinion, Obama was not making it better. I can ensure you, my financial status has not decreased over the past two years, and one of the biggest reason the economy is doing so poorly is based on the previous administration's polices and the fact that tax payers have been funding two wars for the past 8 years. We simply should have not started two wars with no long term plan to fund them. And lets not forget, the President has spent most of his time focusing on the laundry list of issues left by the previous administration. He deserves 4 more years to really push his polices and make this country better as promised when he was elected.

"The last President to hand

"The last President to hand this nation off to a succesor in good shape was Bill Clinton to George Bush."

Yeh, thanks to a Republican controlled Congress. Clinton also benefited from something he had nothing to do with.......the tech boom.

If you think none of our current problems are Obama's fault, that all the blame goes on Bush, you are just a dead wrong close minded Democrat. The skyrocketing price of gas and food are all directly caused by Obama's monetary and energy policies. Nothing to do with Bush. Obama's over regulation of businesses, the increased cost of healthcare under Obamacare, and his continued threat to raise taxes are also causing the continued high unemployment.

I agree that Bush was at fault for not paying for the wars but he was also a victim of the crashing housing market caused by Democrat policies at Fannie Mae and he was also the victim of high gas prices, again caused by the Democrat's policy of not letting us develop our own energy resources. You can holler "Bush did it" all you want but all of the bad things that have caused economic problems, except the wars, go back to Democrat policies.

Obama has not "fixed" any of these problems and, in fact, has made most of them worse. Which is why unemployment is still 9%, gas prices are rising, food prices are rising, the housing market is still crashing, healthcare costs are skyrocketing, and nothing is getting better. Oh by the way, 2 Bush wars, and now 1 Obama war continue, along with GITMO and most other Bush policies. Obama cost us $billions by arbitrarily closing Yucca mountain and now we have nowhere to store our nuclear waste. And we won't even mention the other billions Obama cost us with bailouts that ended up in the pockets of the unions, his biggest campain contributors.

Bush did some things that caused a blip in our economy but Obama and the Democrat's policies will hurt us for decades to come. If the "Bush did it" nutcases contend that the unpaid for wars caused the recession then they are, in fact, saying that the deficit caused by the wars caused the all of the problems. Believe me, when it comes to creating deficits, Obama is 4 times worse than Bush. Things are MUCH worse after 2 1/2 years of Obama and they will continue to go downhill while prices for food and gas skyrocket. Unless, as with Clinton, the Republican controlled House can put a stop to the spending and force development of domestic energy sources.

Retired Army..Fact: March

Retired Army..Fact: March 1993 President Clinton, unveiled military spending plan by sending Congress a $263.4-billion defense budget for fiscal 1994 that would reduce troop strength to a level not seen since the Korean War but would keep most major weapons systems intact.

According to documents to be formally released at the Pentagon today, Clinton recommended spending $12 billion less than former President George Bush had proposed for next year, the first installment in a plan to spend $88 billion less for defense over the next four years than the Republican Administration had recommended.

As a retired Navy gent, I am so pleased to see Retired Army say "right the ship". Beyond that, I'm not overly impressed with either Bush or Obama, although I am impressed with their collective conviction to go down with their ships (see Army, that's how it's done :) )
