Rants & Raves

Comments from our readers:

What sad ignorance can produce a ranter who writes, "I don't mind higher taxes on gas as long as it's spent wisely." When's the last time a tax dollar was "spent wisely?" The single day after World War II ended -- maybe.

Dick Harpootlian says Gov. Nikki Haley will get not one good night's sleep "for the next 18 months." Is that some kind of threat? What's Harpootlian got against Haley, other than Haley is not a socialist?

Bravo to Mr. Armstrong for his proposals to improve the currently neglected section of Sand Hills. I surely hope that someone can come along and work on some of those now unused houses to convert them into apartments for students. And if those businesses near there at the end of Fleming Avenue can be converted and used by other businesses, I can foresee business not only by ASU students, but perhaps from the people who use the Sand Hills Community Center for events.

I feel like singing my Rave and shouting "BRAVO" to the Augusta Players for yet another outstanding show. This past weekend's production of Hairspray was non-stop entertainment. Our family is always impressed with the talented volunteer performers from Augusta and surrounding communities who rehearse for countless hours to bring Broadway level entertainment to Augusta. If you haven't yet seen a musical put on by the Augusta Players you are missing out!

Why do you and The Associated Press and all the news media in this area and this country allow them British snobs to be shoved down our throats like that's something we want to see and hear about? There's nothing special about them. They are nothing special to us no more. We're not owned by Britain. We fought for our independence and got it in two wars against them.

When in the world are the police going to start enforcing turn signals and bumper huggers? These tailgaters will kill you. Please, cops, enforce the law. Do your job.

The federal government is now mailing out tax refund checks along with an insert claiming government is your best advisor for making personal investments. "become a smarter investor." "Free investor toolkit." (available in Spanish, for Americans?) The smartest investor will avoid ALL "advice" from government; and nothing is "free."

Bin Laden's death may be true, but it may not be. There are too many unanswered questions to believe Obama's story so far. For all we know, bin Laden was dead a year ago and Obama needed something to prop him up now, so he released it now. Question: why did they immediately haul the body to sea for a burial at sea and then plop it into the water, yet not one single photograph showing it's bin Laden? Something still isn't fitting together here.

G'mornin' Fried-pie Friday

G'mornin' Fried-pie Friday friends n foes...hope Thor's hammer missed ya yesterday n yer ready for another dose o what ails ya...be it good or bad...as it is often said, "it'll all come out in the wash"...
Now let's see...
1) Ranting about ignorance. Will it never end?
2) Sounds like you two need to settle this between yourselves and not bother us with it. It's personal, not public.
3) A rave. How nice. Now if everyone who owns neglected property would all of them do the right thing and keep their properties taxes up and keep the property maintained. That would be worth raving about.
4) Different strokes for different folks. I'm too fidgety to sit through live performances...I have TV for this. But glad you had a good time.
5) There's a lot to be said about old money and respect for the future king of Britain, you wouldn't want other countries to cop an attitude about us, would ya? Play fair.
6) Traffic around here is not the big problem...it's cell phone use while driving...these are the idiots I redirect your rant toward, not tail-gaters who are obviously into energy drinks and multi-taskers who think they can read and drive while e-faxing and talking to their mom and execute a right turn without signaling or braking in time....those are the dangerous ones...self-absorbed and oblivious to the danger they create around the vicinity of their motor vehicle, swerving, braking for no apparent reason...my goat...I could go on about this one...
7) The gov't bought out most of the banks, so you'll probably be investing in them anyway...
8) It's a government conspiracy, what else is new?

Alright fellow beings, remember who you are and try to behave this weekend...be your mother's son if you still can...and honor the ones you can this weekend. Without moms, we are only half of who we could be and wouldn't be here at all. Be safe.
God bless n G'day.

Well, the RCSO has been

Well, the RCSO has been downsized by 38 deputies due to budget cuts over the last few year. In addition to that, they are short deputies that are allocated due to the pathetic salaries, furlough days, increase in cost for health care and lack of any decent retirement program. Therefore, although they are "doing their job" to the best of their ability, turn signals and tail gaters aren't at the top of the food chain. A RCSO deputy will answer more than 3 times the calls of a CCSO or ACSO or most any other department of the same size and the paperwork associated with the calls is through the roof. Until the commission wakes up, brings the salaries at least to comparable agencies (30k with no furlough days), yeah, still a joke but at least it is liveable, and replaces the many deleted deputies over the years, many laws will simply continue to go un-enforced as the deputies simply don't have the manpower. Heck, they are now taking many calls for service over the phone and not even sending a deputy - the citizens here really need to voice their concerns and support law enforcement and Sheriff Strength who is doing everyting in his power.

----

Why on earth does this administration continue to release information the simply should not be disiminated? The ignorance demonstrated by so many in releasing this information is pathetic...WASHINGTON -- Some of the first information gleaned from Osama bin Laden's compound indicates al-Qaida considered attacking U.S. trains on the upcoming anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks. But counterterrorism officials say they believe the planning never got beyond the initial phase and have no recent intelligence pointing to an active plot for such an attack.

As of February 2010, the terror organization was considering plans to attack the U.S. on the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. One idea outlined in handwritten notes was to tamper with an unspecified U.S. rail track so that a train would fall off the track at a valley or a bridge, according to a joint FBI and Homeland Security bulletin sent to law enforcement officials around the country Thursday. The al-Qaida planners noted that if they attacked a train by tilting it, the plan would only succeed once because the tilting would be spotted the next time.

Some information simply SHOULD NOT be released as it does nothing to make us more secure and shows all of our cards. Those "homegrown" and "sleeper cell" terrorist who may not have any information as to what to do to please Osama certainly know now what to try thanks to this administration.

OK cristinadh....... The Navy

OK cristinadh.......
The Navy Seals had 1brave dog with them......the dog actually did the bulk of the raid. They have learned to parachute out of planes with their handlers.

The dogs wear waterproof

The dogs wear waterproof tactical vests that feature infrared & night vision cameras so that the handlers can see what the dogs are seeing. The vests come in coyote tan & camouflage.....you also won't see pics of these special animals...amazing dogs.

But what might really

But what might really surprise you are the special forces cats that jumped out of the plane with them. No parachute needed; they always land on their paws. Nothing navigates through sand better than a cat. They come equipped with night vision and weapons that can shred and stab. They communicate by soft purrs and mews that the enemy can never de-code. Sadly, we did lose one when the enemy used an electric can opener to lure him in too close. They will never admit it, but it was really the Navy Sealpoints that captured Ben Laden. Then dragged him outside and neatly covered him up with sand.

Right dani........for obvious

Right dani........for obvious reasons the dog has been taken to a secret location.........I think they are worried he will get too much media coverage & learn to like the attention.....of course that will blow his cover..later it is possible though he could write a book about his life with the seals......probably by then he will be too old to cut the mustard anymore,.......:)

Daley contacted Clinton

Daley contacted Clinton within hours of their meeting indicating Jarrett refused to allow the president to give that approval. Daley then informed Clinton that he too would fully support Panetta in his actions, even if it meant disclosing the president’s indecision to the American public should that action fail to produce a successful conclusion. Clinton took that message back to Panetta and the CIA director initiated the 48 hour engagement order. At this point, the President of the United States was not informed of the engagement order – it did not originate from him, and for several hours after the order had been given and the special ops forces were preparing for action into Pakistan from their position in Afghanistan, Daley successfully kept Obama and Jarrett insulated from that order.

Rant # 6: Maybe someone
Unpublished

Rant # 6: Maybe someone familiar with the Americans With Disabilities Act should question why the Gas Plus at the intersection of Hwy 25 & Sweetwater Rd., has NO handicapped parking signs in FRONT of the doors to the gas station/store, instead of worrying about "bumper huggers."

There are MANY other propaganda-type events that many people are unaware of. This event is to boost the "Presidents" ratings.

And here I was thinking he

And here I was thinking he timed it just so there would be a better chance Donald Trump's show "The Celebrity Apprentice" would be interrupted by the media. Considering Obama didn't speak until about an hour later, the show was unnecessarily interrupted. Big surprise. (Rolling my eyes).
