Comments from our readers:

I READ IN Sunday's paper about the man being arrested for shooting in the McDonald's drive-in about the car behind him with the booming music. It was bound to happen. I can't take it anymore myself. If Sheriff Ronnie Strength will not uphold the law that was passed that makes this loud music illegal, then it's going to keep happening. Somebody's going to get hurt. I am an American citizen, and I shouldn't have to listen to this vulgar, loud, obnoxious thumping all the time.

I'M 73 YEARS OLD. I can relate so much with Sylvia Cooper's article in Sunday's paper about the man looking for Talmadge Memorial Hospital. I was a patient there in 1962, and it was a process you had to go through to even get to be a patient there. Your doctor had to recommend you and you had to have something that the students could learn from. And you also had to have papers for people to sign saying that you were a resident of Georgia. If the students at the Medical College of Georgia don't have the sense enough to know how to cross the street, I don't think I would want them doctoring on me.

WHY IN THE HECK would anyone in Richmond County want to be a commissioner? There is no way in the world that anything can be accomplished when all issues are drawn on racial lines. No way should the commission be involved in the hiring and firing process of the city government. What is it with Ben Hasan and the so-called Baptist Ministers Conference? Are they scared that City Administrator Fred Russell will fire one of their acquaintances or relatives? Be assured that if he ever gets the authority, he will be closely watched by all concerned. Give him a chance.

WHOM IS AUGUSTA National trying to impress? Not me, surely. Their parking instructions mailer asks me to follow "SIGNAGE" in their lot. If I can't find "signage" in the dictionary, how can I find it in the lot?

PAPER, LIKE WATER , is a lot heavier than people think, and hauling heavy paper ain't cheap. Yet the U.S. Postal Service "will study whether it would be cheaper to sort Augusta mail in Columbia..." That means they want you to mail a letter from Augusta to Augusta and have it hauled to Columbia and back before it's delivered. And they seem to imply that Augusta is a "small" post office. What's the federal government's game? It surely isn't in making things cheaper.

Y'ALL DIDN'T PRINT my New Year's procrastination resolution! It was much more intellectual than the jabs I make at the Democrats. Your readers are smart enough to figure it out. Here, let's try it again. I'll even make it shorter and easier for the editors to understand. I've just made my New Year's resolution: I'm going to stop procrastinating.

WHY ARE OBAMA and Biden giving advice to the Egyptians? They can't even lead our country!

So you want Sheriff Strength

So you want Sheriff Strength to re-assign his deputies and ensure that no one ever plays loud music from their cars.

Well, lets see, the commissoners have cut 38 deputies from the Sheriff's Office, took an additional $750,000.00 from the Sheriff's budget this year, furloughed every deputy 5 days off without pay resulting in more than 20,000 less man hours this year compared to last, etc. and your main concern is having them enforce noise ordinance violations.

How about you and others get loud yourselves and let your commissoners know that our deputies need our support. They need decent pay, all furlough days restored, added support personnel, etc. because compared to any agency similar in populaiton and demographics this department is very much underfunded and the deputies pay and benefits are deplorable.

As for the US Postal service...its more of big government waisting tax dollars while doing a lousy job and yet rewarding the leaders with nice bonuses.

Thank you asitisinaug!!!

Thank you asitisinaug!!! Deputies definitely need our support!!! My husband is a deputy and its hard to believe how people treat them. No respect at all! They are trying all they can to do their job despite being furloughed. I agree with the loud music and how obnoxious it is but deputies have a more important job than telling every person to turn their music down. They have their hands full just dealing with the riff raff in augusta...

If you are having problems

If you are having problems with the police dept. ya better take it up with the Augusta commisioners....they are pulling the purse strings....what a joke they are...too busy with the minority challenge--power struggle to even do their job...tax money down the drain....SOME need to be fired.
What gives with the post office??.......could it be downtown post office running off the rails?

@ True2Self Maybe if I hadn't

@ True2Self

Maybe if I hadn't watched Richmond county protect their own or cover for my best friends murderer just because had connections and money I'd have more respect for them. I'm not saying your husband is a bad guy. Probably isn't. But my experience with the "legal system" in Richmond county has shown me that it's nothing more than a good ole' boy network who protects their own or takes money instead prosecuting a murderer. I barely trust most of them and I feel like if I were murdered tomorrow they probably wouldn't care since I'm not rich and I don't know a judge....

Ranter number 1, I'll join you when you get behind ALL excessive vehicle noise, including loud motorcycle tailpipes.

To paraphrase a longtime rider, "If you need drivers to hear your motorcycle for a half mile in order to be safe, you have no business riding."

Fatboyhog: Bwahhh-hah-ha!

Fatboyhog: Bwahhh-hah-ha! "Signage" is indeed in the dictionary...What a complete pompous "Tool", (A word ALSO found in the dictionary....and on Jersey Shore) to insinuate that the common reader of the Chronicle wouldn't know that...or at least look it up. Geez.

Rant 1, As I posted yesterday, you will see no action to enforce this law because to do so would have a lot of people yelling and screaming that the LEO are racist.

I didn't write post number

I didn't write post number one about loud music, but I've voiced the same opinion. Cobalt, your comment is biased. I have seen people of all races, ages and genders breaking the noise ordinance with their loud "music". Breaking the law is not limited to a certain demographic. As a matter of fact, until the house they were going to on Wednesday nights to pick up pot was busted, the boomers were white and the pot dealer was black and there have been times around the other corner that it was the other way around. Just an observation, so I don't have pre-conceived ideas about the demographic of the drivers, whom I usually don't wish to see anyway, I just want the noise to stop. But I really don't blame the deputies for it, it is a pain in the neck to enforce it. I think people should have more sense and consideration than to do it in the first place, but I suppose some of the offenders are impaired in some way. (hint-hint).

Oh, you take your life in

Oh, you take your life in your hands every time you drive by that Pik-a-Part place on Doug Barnard Pkwy. I've nearly been hit by people going in and out of there the last few times I've used that road. The first time, I made a comment about it on here, where the guy pulled out in front of me coming from the end of Lumpkin Road onto Doug Barnard, then a short time later was tailgating me, then went around me only to cut in front of me AND brake quickly and turn right into Pik-a-Part with no blinker. The next time it looked like the same guy in a different car. Didn't see the driver the fourth incident, today. He was crossing from the opening in the median and pulled out and slammed on his brakes so that he horizontal in the fast lane, thankfully I was poking along in the slow lane and had a clear lane ahead of me. What's the problem down there?

Yes AutumnLeaves my post does

Yes AutumnLeaves my post does sound biased. To shed light on my Non-PC comment I ask you two questions.

1. If, just if LEO's made an active drive on all those noise making Idiots, what do you think the ratio of those ticketed would be Caucasian, Hispanic and African American?

2. Who do you think would make the most verbal stink and yell racist over being caught?

I get so tired of hearing

I get so tired of hearing about the shortage that the Sheriff's Department is experiencing...it's happened, so deal with it. The biggest problem is that the deputies need to do their job. If they are on patrol and they hear loud music coming out of a vehicle, then they need to pull them over and give a citation. That should be in the normal scope of their duties, they should not have to be reassigned to do that.

Ok let us be fair to the

Ok let us be fair to the police...if they are tied up chasing & arresting noise makers (& I so want their butts punished too) the public would gripe that they can't take care of "real" problems , like breakins & carjacking & etc. because they are arresting LOUD cars with jerks in the drivers seat....so what is the answer---$500.00 fine sent to the owner of the car----then they would say they were not the driver at that time & on & on & on..
so maybe that shooter was trying to shoot the radio out of the car....which could be the solution to this problem......or shoot the tires out so they couldn't move.....yeh I'm joking but the thoughts run through my mind at times when the music is BOOMING!!!!!

1) What wimps! Loud music is

1) What wimps! Loud music is everywhere...
...from the gas pumps
...to the restaurants
...to the car next to you.

Get over it.

It won't go away, not even w an armada of i-pods.

The fact that someone lost it like that and now will be tried for murder is sadly, in today's mindset, practically expected...
...as you said, "bound to happen".
The fact that the guy who had the gun actually owned it, is unnerving...
...I'm a certified nut and I know better than to own one...
...yet.

2) One word lady...bureaucrats.

3) Just as you said, WHY?
Some people like to serve.
They are called public servants.
They work for us.
Give them titles and ranks but they are people trying to help other people.
They did not get into it for the money.

That said, that's the ideal.
In real life its all baloney.
Augusta has been the good ole boy town as long as I have drawn breath.
Until we have honesty, truth, and public service in all the ones who run our merry little town, we will always read about corruption in every dark room deal than comes to light...
and it will come to light cuz ...
"...ain't nobody 'roun' heah gonna keep dey mouf shut...."
So ...good luck with that.

4) Different unrelated questions...
The National doesn't need to TRY to impress anyone...they already do..they now own most of the land around the course.
To me, that's impressive.

Signage is in the Internet dictionary..did you try that?
The hard copy 1950's edition is outdated.

Finding a sign should not be all that difficult.
Look for something that is green w white characters....

5) My mom who retired from the USPO, not the USPS, would turn over in her grave over some of the other negative comments about postal work...as for the ridiculous idea that Augusta is a small PO...again, my mom would be ROTFLHAO at the notion if she heard that...
As for myself, I think the government (I don't believe they are really a private competitor...) is trying to streamline and upgrade technology....cut costs while spending more to improve services...typical backward government thinking...nothing more than bureaucracy again at its finest.

6) Not so funny joke. As the Simpson kid always says, "Haa - Haa".

7) Why not? Oh yeah, cuz they don't do a good job here...
'scuze me...
It's Congress that spends the money and makes the laws and sends our troops to war...not Obbbbobblehead and his wrecking crew.
Merely puppets on a string.
Sheeple following a blind bunch of wayward shepherds...

God bless America.
God bless ya'll and G'day.

Don't know if anyone here is

Don't know if anyone here is interested, or not, but have you heard that the USPS is considering moving all postal offices in Evans to Columbia, South Carolina? Talk about useless! If they do this, the USPS will lose a few tons of business, while they think they will be saving money. Who's making these decisions? Alfred E. Newman?

I have heard that over 155

I have heard that over 155 jobs are on the line in the csra (at post ofc)
It does seem unreal that SC would sort the mail for Augusta----BUT nothing surprises me anymore----we have some good workers there...I raised one of them...
I would think omitting 1 day a week would be the answer to cut costs.
