Augusta needs blood donations

  • Follow Metro

An increase in patient demand for blood has created an “urgent and immediate” need for blood donors of all types, Shepeard Community Blood Center said this afternoon.

On Friday six shelves were empty in the refrigerator that usually holds up to 1008 units of blood, a meager third of the supply needed for the community, the center said.

The center urged the community to donate today or this weekend to replenish the stocks of blood for 17 local hospitals and the burn center.

I am a 12 gallon blood donor

I am a 12 gallon blood donor who was turned away last week because I mistakenly told them I went on a cruise last year when it was really 2 years ago. When I caught the mistake no one was available to approve my donation and change my status in the computer. The Director of Donor Services was unapologetic for not being available or having someone else with authority available. They (she) need a serious lesson in "customer service".

PS All other workers are always professional.
