To be correct, those who said

To be correct, those who said "happy holidays" instead of Merry Christmas at Christmas now need to say "happy famous blackman's birthday" since the name of the person whom a day is all about can't be used. Or someone could just say happy holiday but we can't use the name because it might offend someone.

I celebrate the birthday of

I celebrate the birthday of General Robert E. Lee on this day as his birthday is the same as the other man. Also, do not forget that Thomas Johnathan "Stonewall" Jackson's birthday is on the 21st.

Dixieland4, the Commonwealth

Dixieland4, the Commonwealth of Virginia celebrated Lee-King-Jackson Day for about 16 years. Virginia Governor Jim Gilmore split the holidays in 2000 because it was felt that the other men represented totally different ideologies from Dr. King. My thoughts are that you should live and let live. If you want to celebrate the other men, then please do so in your own manner. However, I don't see how mentioning the other men has anything to do with this story about government office closings on a federal holiday to commemorate the birth of Dr. King.

...and I do not see where

...and I do not see where your comments have any bearing on my "who cares what you think". Take your own advice and "live and let live".

I still can't believe that

I still can't believe that people saying Happy Holidays is such an issue. It's just a catch-all phrase used due to the numerous religious holidays in December and can even include New Years.
I also don't understand how a holiday to celebrate a civil right's leader could offend anyone.

Dixieland, that's what the

Dixieland, that's what the live and let live comment means. You celebrate what you want, and I'll celebrate what I want. I'm not telling you that you're wrong for celebrating the other men, but you make it seem that by doing so, you're celebrating something far greater than everyone else. Afterall, these were just men who, by everything that I understand about them, were humble and wouldn't want others to make a fuss about their birthdays.
