Rants & Raves

Comments from our readers:

Does it really matter who the mayor pro tem  is? And why do we need such a useless position in the first place? We already have a do-nothing mayor with virtually no power who is essentially just a ribbon-cutter. So do we need a back-up in case Deke’s ribbon-cutting hand gets tired? Let’s just give everyone some fancy title like they do in England and make everyone happy.

This is a rant for you people in the Jail Report. I’m glad y’all think it’s funny that y’all get arrested. Y’all are posing like y’all are taking pictures from Glamour Shots. I bet y’all’d wipe that smile off your face when y’all have that fine pop up that you gotta pay. So quit smiling because it’s not funny. All you’re doing is wasting your own money.

Augustans would go to hockey games. Move them out to the ice arena area building;  they’ll come out there. They’re not going down to James Brown Arena. Get the deputies to stop the panhandling or you’re going to get even worse.

This is a rant to all the smokers and the trash they throw out of their cars – cigarette butts. You ought to be ashamed of yourselves.

I have a rant for the cop I saw the other day trying to chase down two shoplifters leaving Old Navy off Robert C. Daniel Jr. Parkway. They were  “bigger than average ” ladies and you still couldn’t catch them? The one lady even fell down, got up and still was well ahead. Shouldn’t there be a weight requirement or fitness level for street cops? I don’t feel safe knowing you couldn’t chase them down yourself. Slowest foot chase I’d ever seen.

A rant for Augusta commissioners:   If you have your e - mail as a contact method make sure that your inbox is not rejecting messages because it’s  full, and that your company e - mail that you use for a contact address does not reject e - mails as spam.

I would like to say a wonderful thing about Betty at Walmart on Deans Bridge Road. She greets people with the biggest, most wonderful smile I’ve ever seen in my life. She is an asset to the world ,  and she makes that Walmart light up when you see her. Such a wonderful woman to greet people when they walk in the door.

After reading your editorial page article this morning talking about media bias, I was just knocked over. How can The Chronicle complain about media bias when that’s all you deal in? I mean, I don’t blame nobody for it. We all have it. But to go around and complain about others, The Chronicle has no ground to stand on.

Ranter: "This is a rant to all the smokers and the trash they throw out of their cars – cigarette butts. You ought to be ashamed of yourselves." And you, ranter, should be ashamed of yourself for tossing out your snack trash after you've eaten the burgers and chips--and that soda cup was partially full.

Ranter #1: A mayor pro-tem

Ranter #1: A mayor pro-tem takes over when the mayor is not available. Deke does his job, and it is considerably more than simple ribbon cutting as you imply. If YOU think the job is so easy, why haven't you run for the office? Reason: You wouldn't know how to be a mayor and you obviously lack in PR quallifications.

A Richmond County cop failed

A Richmond County cop failed to chase down two overweight shoplifters? hahahahaha. Maybe he/she should have grabbed a handicap shopping scooter. Our Police see just as much action as our Military. I agree that there needs to be physical fitness and testing conducted on a regular basis. Buyers beware!!! If we require them to stay in shape then we must also provide a means and time for them to meet the standards. So...more money will be needed. Are you willing to pay that cost?

"How can The Chronicle

"How can The Chronicle complain about media bias when that’s all you deal in?"

Delusional. The Chronicle uses the same sources for news as the Atlanta Journal-Constitiution, USA Today, and presumably, Pravda: the Associated Press. News articles are printed word-for-word from that souce in all three. Are they right wing biased?

The AJC's editor, who makes Michelle Obama look like a conservative slacker, Cynthia Tucker (not to be confused with Cynthia McKinney who she actively supported, even though she is not only a left-wing nutjob but also an outspoken racist) has been quoted as saying even AP covers "too much news." As in, "... things not favourable to progress;" i.e.; anything putting liberals in a bad light.

AC puts its bias in its EDITORIALS- which --have someone explain this to you using small words-- is where opinions belong, rather than in heavily slanting the writing of stories to suit a liberal agenda.

Since when did Richmond

Since when did Richmond County get Police Officers? I thought we had Sheriff's Deputies. I don't want to be a stickler but there is a difference in the two.

#1.... Something has to be

#1.... Something has to be first accomplished in order to have a ribbon cutting... Expect to see numerous cuttings in 2011.

#8... I agree with your statement 100%... I'm still waiting on a article focusing on the several crimes who decreased in 2010...

Please remember to support

Please remember to support the Augusta Regional Airport. Last year the airport added hundreds of parking spaces, American Eagle airlines, and valet parking... If we continue to see double digit growth every year we'll have another airline in no time... In June of 2010 the airport marketing director Diane Johnston stated the airport is in talks with 4 airlines.. Maybe AirTran, Southwest, United Airlines, Allegiant Air, Continental, American Airlines, or United Express????

As of November 2010 the Augusta Regional Airport had already surpassed the number of passengers it saw in 2009.

The airport had 202,908 departing passengers in 2009, a 12 percent increase over 2008.

Through November of 2010, 226,319 people chose to fly out of Augusta. In 2006, only 134,000 people flew out of the airport.

Add all the comings and goings from Augusta, and the total is 448,400 passengers for the 11 months. That's 80,000 more than 2009. Sure, American Eagle has something to do with that (23,000 of it)."

Based on the folks I see

Based on the folks I see regularly flying in and out of Augusta, I think Hooters Air would be an appropriate airline to locate here. That is if they are even still in bidness.

I also saw the cop chasing 2

I also saw the cop chasing 2 shoplifters at Old Navy, but the other ranter was wrong. The cop did catch both “Ladies” and brought them back to the store to be arrested.

Swing and a miss there sylar.

Swing and a miss there sylar. I must've offended you by that rant. #1 Nobody said police officers. Not to be a 'stickler' or anything, but the word used was cop. #2 That cop DID NOT catch those ladies, 2 other squad cars cut them off in their CARS after the ran out of breath and started walking around the side of that Ale House restaurant. Get your facts straight before trying to correct someone who WAS actually there.

unfortunately crlmsontlder

unfortunately crlmsontlder you did not see the whole thing. the cop caught them in the parking lot of the ale house and had them handcuffed when the other cars got there. The other cars transported them back to the store. I know because i followed them in my car and saw the whole thing, not just guessing

He caught them because they

He caught them because they stopped entirely, either because they saw the other squad cars flying towards them or that they had one more doughnut than the cop that morning and just couldn't waddle any further. Anyway, my point was that it was totally pathetic. But thanks for your comments on my rant!
