Comments from our readers:

THIS IS FOR the Savannah Riverkeeper. Thanks for not gloating as I lost my job. Merry Christmas to you, too.

I JUST READ about the three current Columbia County residents who (said) their decorations were stolen for Christmas. I just can't believe what this world is coming to when people actually destroy or steal Christmas decorations from somebody else's property. It's just ridiculous. It's a disgrace.

WHO DO WE need to talk to in reference to the United States Post Office? You go there to mail your packages at the busiest time of the year and they got two people working and moving at a very, very slow rate and the line is going out the door.

SRNS IS THROWING away money at colleges and charities while they are in the middle of a layoff. I guess they have to keep up appearances while they cut the throats of the people that work for them.

MCG, DON'T CLOSE the road. Build a crosswalk over the road. But if MCG wants to save some big money, all the administrators that have free houses, they should make their own house payments instead of having the taxpayers make their house payments. Same thing for magazine subscriptions and car allowances.

THANK YOU TO all the people, from the bottom of my heart, who took time to put up holiday lights. It makes my heart happy.

I SURE DO MISS Wachovia bank. You need a magnifying glass to read the fine print that Wells Fargo sends you on your report of your canceled checks. Please, (Wells Fargo), make larger print for people who can't see good.

I AM HAPPY that the Medical College of Georgia is in Augusta and would like to make positive things. However, there is another school with connections to Laney-Walker Boulevard. Paine College will be cut off from those of us who live on the other side of the medical college. What alternative route is there to get to the druggist, foot doctor, class, sports events, Druid Park Avenue, etc.?

WHO IS PAYING the electric bill for the new municipal building? Every night, every light in the entire building is on. That is one expensive electric bill for an empty building.

PEOPLE GET OFF your lazy behinds and get to know your neighbor. Stop complaining about the crime rate and form a neighborhood watch. The police can't help you keep your neighborhood safe if you don't help them. Criminals prey on neighborhoods where they know the neighbors don't talk to each other!

I agree about the rant about the "United States Post Office"I stood in line Tuesday at the Evans post office for 25-30 minutes and the workers were on slow mode. I think if they got paid by customer instead of hourly they might move a little faster!

Maybe you should check your

Maybe you should check your facts about Paine College and the proposed closure of Laney Walker. MCG isn't alone in wanting the closure. Guess which other college is. Yup you go it. Paine College has also expressed it's desire for the closure.

etlinks, I tried to post a link to the Savannah Riverkeeper website for you, but it apparently violates some kind of policy. Just google it and you can find the site. AC, I think I will keep my money, it's not like it was a porn site or anything.

For the comments on the Post

For the comments on the Post Office: That's no suprise. They have been doing business like that with the public for at least 20 years. I remember years ago, many times standing in line that went out the door and they would have one or two people waitning on us. They haven't changed the way they treat the public in 20 years so I avoid using the post office whenever I can. Just another reason they are going to lose millions of dollars this year.

I agree on the post office,
Unpublished

I agree on the post office, one or two at the window, with a line out the door, then more workers in the back laughing and cutting up, I used to tell them Piggly Wiggly had better customer service, more than two in line they opened another register.
Since the e-pay, e-mail, fed-ex and other ways to get things done, we do not give the postal service much of our business anymore, they don't seem to want it anyway.

Rant # 3: AMEN!!!! Then the morons that work there wonder why there a multi-billion dollar deficit at the USPS. The MAJOR prerequisite to being hired there is having an I.Q., that is exceeded by the applicant's shor size!

The USPS is going to lose more than a few millions this year. Last year they lost $8.5 billion - $8,500,000,000.00

For several reasons, one

For several reasons, one being bad managment, I believe someday the post office will be out of business. Then all they have to do is go look in a mirror and they will see why that is. Now we have other ways to send packages, letters and messeges, the post office is no longer the only game in town and they can't keep up or refuse to.

True Clevel, they may never

True Clevel, they may never go out of bussiness completely. They're no longer suppose to be a goverment agency but who knows. They may, in the years to come, just shrink down to be a small bussiness catering to companies that send out catalogs and junk mail.

I kinda have a life-long

I kinda have a life-long crush on the USPS - no, really! When I take a moment to ponder the miracle of placing an item at the end of my driveway with a reasonable certainty that it will reach its destination, no matter how distant, it leaves me amazed. I here you about the holiday lines at the branches, but isn't it akin to hitting a fast food joint at lunch time?

Close Laney Walker, Drive

Close Laney Walker, Drive around. The only reason most people don't want it to close is because its the cleanest part of that rd. Clean up the rest of it if it's such a historical part of Augusta like you say it is. I love how the NAACP can turn everything into a black-white issue. Get over yourselves and get a life.

The Postmaster General in DC

The Postmaster General in DC lives in an $8 million dollar mansion. And the clerks at the Evans Post Office have always been lazy, and uncaring.

RE: Neighborhood Safety - I

RE: Neighborhood Safety - I read this in one of those vaunted pamphlets from Pueblo, Colorado while putting a drunk on a bus back home. Supposedly, the most dangerous place to live is the middle of the middle. The rich have the gates and security - the impoverished have the grape vine, but those in the middle of the middle class feel a false sense of security due to a nasty habit of believing everyone is just like they are - and an apathy about taking time (between runs to gymnastics and dance classes) to meet the neighbors. I just love a good bus station.

Also on back of card in very small letters...A business can charge you 20% for using said card---in other words YOU WILL PAY a fee to get the card---a fee to use the card---(if you are lucky that it will go through) then if you have a problem you can call another country & try to get problems corrected...NEVER AGAIN FOR ME-

I like the idea about the

I like the idea about the neighborhood watch however unless the sheriff's office starts being proactive it wont work by itself. Neighborhood watches are wonderful but they need to have support from the sheriffs office or local police. Otherwise someone could get hurt. I do agree that it is a great deterrent. It so sad what Augusta is fast becoming. It is high time that the good law abiding citizens take it back from these low-life thugs who do nothing productive with their life.

MCG don't. I believe that the only dwelling the college owns is 920 Milledge Rd. If the other Dr's are getting any housing allowance it is probably through the Physicians Practice Group. The PPG is the intity that handles collecting professional fees for all of the services provided by MCG physicians. This is where MCG docs get their perks. Oh, by the way,, I still stand by my statement that all of us are too lazy to climb stairs to get onto a pedestrian crosswalk. What about the handicapped?
