Rants & Raves

Comments from readers:

THIS IS A HUGE rave for the people from Abilene Baptist Church. After attending the "Singing Christmas Tree" for the first time I want to say what a wonderful performance. Congratulation to Thomas Sunderland and his cast of performers and the choir for doing a spectacular job. What a wonderful way to start the Christmas Holiday Season.

I HAVE A RANT for the lady on TV getting the free coats at the Salvation Army. If you are so poor and disabled and can't buy coats for your children, then I would have at least taken the bluetooth out of my ear before I appeared on the news.

A RAVE TO Mike Dees and Augusta Amusements in bringing to Fort Discovery -- as the last show before it closes -- Nick Hilscher and his big band doing a holiday tribute to Frank Sinatra this past Saturday night! This was one of the best holiday shows in Augusta!

WHAT KIND OF nitwits build a zillion-dollar arena in Minnesota and put an inflatable roof on it that would cave in with heavy snow?

I WANT TO say thanks to the family that found my daughter's purse at the Augusta Mall Food Court on Saturday. They turned it in to security and nothing was missing from it. It is nice to know that there are still honest people out there willing to do the right thing. God bless you, and I hope you and your family have a very Merry Christmas

ST. SEBASTIAN HAS barely opened, and the red lights from Reynolds into University aren't synched. One light is red while the next is green. It's only a few lights; this is ridiculous. I'm not shocked, but they need to get it together.

ANYONE WHOSE No. 1 concern is the future of "the party" on either side of the aisle needs to be swept into the dust bin of history.

FIRST OF ALL, we have to drive 15 miles to get to any decent restaurants since we live on the southside. Then we have to put up with all of the hollering and carrying on, and most of the noise is being caused by adults, not kids. I wish restaurants would tell unruly and loud patrons to quiet down, because they are ruining everyone else's meal.

TO THE MEN in the sedan that broke into my car last night, which was parked at a church downtown, what you took had no value to you. The photos cannot be replaced. Shame on you for giving a grandmother much sorrow for losing those pictures in the album.

I SERVED IN the Army for 20 years and served with gays as well as straights. There were no more personnel problems with one group than with the other.

Does the average person know

Does the average person know how many months of "celebration" there are in the military? When "DADT" is repealed I refuse to celebrate Gay Pride month with rainbow flags. I can guanatee if that was asked on the questionaire along with more straightforward questions, there would have been different answers than they reported.

About the break=in on cars..

If folks would put something that looks like a money bag BUT fill it with "stinking" diapers..hahah...(all over town) this might slow down some of the car break-ins. lol
Some diaper bags do look like a purse.

Haha...worked forit...Then they would want to sue because their itty bitty hand was bitten by a big bad snake...with some jury systems they might just get something for their snake bite. CRAZY.....but I can remember some articles about homeowners getting in trouble because they boobytrapped their home to catch burglars...kinda crazy to me.

Our bodies, being designed by

Our bodies, being designed by the Creator, could not perform if it was unable to rid itself of waste. If we want society to function like a well designed body, then we must rid that body of its waste. Start by arming yourself, but only if you are capable of using it.

Ranter #2......10-4 on the

Ranter #2......10-4 on the lady with the bluetooth waiting in the gimmee sumpthin' free line. I always get a kick when the pan the camera down the lines at the turkey giveaway, and the toy giveaway too. The lines are full of young women with fine clothes, beauty shop fresh hairdos, nail salon fresh fake nails, talking on their cellphones or into their bluetooth devices. This is where your charititable donations go in Augusta. This is where your tax dollars go too. This country needs to quit worrying about taxing the rich and start redefining our definition of "poor" because the ones we are supporting are not poor. We send them lots of money and benefits to take care of their children and all of it ends up twisted up on top of their heads, glued to their fingertips, fitting them out for trolling in the mall, and stuck in their ear. And it's quite obvious that none of them have missed a meal or are having to ration their food. There are poor people in this county but a large number of those on the public dole are not poor and are not living like they are poor thanks to the stupid taxpayers. The people who truely need the help from these holiday giveaway publicity stunts can't get it because the "bluetooth mommas" beat them to the lines.

So true dichotomy! I plan to

So true dichotomy! I plan to give my charitable gifts to our local animal welfare organizations. I am through with people on the dole. However, if someone knows of an organization which assists ONLY the elderly needy, let me know and I may direct some funds there. I have had it with handouts to those who already have and feel entitled to the "gimmes."

A person living on the

A person living on the government give away programs should not be enjoying the luxuries of life. None of them. The aged or disabled deserve a warm place to live, and food necessary for a good survival. A 300 lb person needs to quit screaming poverty. A person sitting in a large over heated house needs to quit screaming poverty. It is time that able bodied people get off their lazy posteriors and earn their way. We (the taxpayers) have given too much already. STOP THE SOCIALISM, CAN DUMBOBAMA.

Before I retired the

Before I retired the employees would, instead of exchanging presents, find the most needy of our hourly workers and give them a basket of food, this would be a turkey, ham and vegetables. It's not hard to find a family in need and takes only a few dollars to make a difference. I prefer this way to having the government make the decision for me.

Ranter #8... Las Lomas

Ranter #8... Las Lomas Mexican restaurant is leaving the Martinez location on South Belair road. They're opening up in South Augusta along Gordon Hwy near North Leg road I believe...

Hibachi Grill Sushi is opening in the former Golden Corral on Peach Orchard road.

Blue Seas Wings and Things opened in South Augusta about three months ago.

Cheff Redd's is now open on Gordon Hwy across from Regency Mall.

Ranter: "WHAT KIND OF nitwits

Ranter: "WHAT KIND OF nitwits build a zillion-dollar arena in Minnesota and put an inflatable roof on it that would cave in with heavy snow?" In the first place, it didn't cost a zillion dollars; in the second place, some of those synthetic roofs are cost-effective and just as reliable as a standard roof; and in the third place, why is this such a concern to you? We have a multitude of problems right here in GA--take a tea break and let Minnesotans solve their own problems! Oh, just to mention, heavy snows WILL collapse even standard roofing--I know because I have seen it happen. It is, to say the least, an unnerving experience for those living in that particular dwelling.

Seenit and dani, I love the

Seenit and dani, I love the Elvis trilogy. I think that I want it to be played at my funeral. I grew up in Dixie but as Margaret Mitchell penned it the Old South is "Gone With the Wind". My 85 year old Dad says that he has lived during the time that the United States was the greatest nation in the world. Corruption and greed have made most of that go away. I hate to get gone and leave my children and grandchildren in the mess that we have created for them.

mable8...the problem is that

mable8...the problem is that this roof has collapsed 4 times now b/c of heavy snow. Maybe the person who complained is a Vikings or Giants fan and missed seeing their football game this weekend. It really does not make sense to keep repairing a roof that obviously cannot handle the weight of the snow time and time again.
