AIKEN - An 83-year-old Perry man died from injuries after a two-vehicle collision Tuesday night at the intersection of state Highway 389 and Poole Road.

According to Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton, the accident occurred at 6:10 p.m. and killed Jim D. Williams, the driver of a 1977 Chevrolet pickup.

The second driver was identified as 68-year-old Elmer Yancey, of Commerce, Ga. He was driving a 2000 Freightliner tractor-trailer.

According to Perry police the vehicle driven by Williams failed to stop at the stop sign , entered the intersection and collided with the tractor-trailer.

Both men were taken to a Columbia hospital. Williams died from body trauma shortly after arrival. Yancey was being treated for injuries that were not life-threatening, the coroner said.

This is the 29th fatal crash in Aiken County in 2010.

I do not know the details of

I do not know the details of the accident and my prayers go out to the family of the deceased. I will also say a prayer for the driver of the Freightliner. I have a good friend who is a truck driver who was involved in a fatal accident that was not his fault....He suffered for years afterward from killing a person...even though the other driver was highly intoxicated. Drivers, please be careful on the road. Please obey all the signs and signals. Too many drivers do NOT know that you must stop before turning right on a red light. We witnessed a young girl on her phone make a turn without stopping and get hit by a large pickup. She was fortunate to not be killed in that accident.....No matter the reason for this accident in Aiken County a man is dead and another will have this on his conscience. Please be careful when driving. The life you save might be yours.

What is the point johnston,

What is the point johnston, most all of vehicle collisions are "accidents" noone purposefully pulls into an intersection with a semi. Whether it be a cell phone, a baby, or a number of other situations, inattention is usually the cause. In this accident, age probably played a part. It is very hard for older folks to give up their independence but my 85 year old Dad forgoes driving because he is smart enough to know that his skills are just not there. God bless Mr. Williams.

What seems to be the reason or cause for not knowing this?
