Here are a few events around town to show appreciation to veterans for having served in the nation's military:

PAUL Knox Veterans Day Program:

10 a.m. today; Paul Knox Middle School gymnasium, 1804 Wells Road, North Augusta

VETERANS DAY CEREMONY: 9 a.m. Thursday; Georgia War Veterans Home; guest speaker, Regimental Command Sgt. Maj. Thomas J. Clark

NORTH AUGUSTA VETERANS DAY:

11 a.m. Thursday; Wade Hampton Park; keynote speaker John J. Curry, retired Army colonel, deputy to the garrison commander of Fort Gordon

BROOKWOOD SINGS AMERICA:

2 and 7 p.m. Thursday; Brookwood Elementary School, 455 S. Old Belair Road; free; patriotic musical presented by the third-grade pupils; program includes audience participation, multimedia presentation, drama, dance and solo performances; (706) 855-7596

CSRA-AUGUSTA VETERANS DAY PARADE: 10-11 a.m. Thursday;

Broad Street, downtown Augusta; Brig. Gen. Alan Lynn will be the grand marshal

VETERANS DAY PARADE: 8 a.m. Thursday; Gloverville Elementary School, 114 Gloria Rush Circle, Gloverville; parade through school; program in cafeteria 8:30 a.m.; veterans speaking in classrooms

VETERANS Day Ceremony: 1 p.m. Thursday; Heroes Overlook, 10th Street; Brig. Gen. Alan Lynn will attend; U.S. Signal Corps Band, firing detail and bugler

VETERANS DAY CEREMONY: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday; The MACK Park, 115 S. Main St., McCormick, S.C.

DEMONSTRATION TO HELP OUR VETS: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday; outside U.S. Rep. Paul Broun's office, on the grass, 4246 Washington Road, Suite 6, Evans

SOUTH AIKEN'S VETERANS DAY PROGRAM: 9 a.m. Thursday;

South Aiken High School gym

Jeff Wallace, guest speaker; open to the public

JEFFERSON VETERANS DAY PROGRAM: 9-10 a.m. Thursday;

Jefferson Elementary School, 170 Flint Drive, Warrenville

VETERANS APPRECIATION DAY: 9 a.m. Friday; North Augusta Elementary School, 400 E. Spring Grove Ave., North Augusta

VETERANS DAY CELEBRATION: 9:30 a.m. Friday; Euchee Creek Elementary School Gym, 795 Louisville Road, Grovetown

ANDY'S THANK-A-VET FREEDOM FEST: 9 a.m. Saturday; military honors at noon; Gordon Park Speedway, 3157 Gordon Highway; active-duty, veterans and children free, $3 adults; music by Ironhill, Ken Will Morton and Jeremy Graham Band; andysthankavet.com

We have a cold bloodied megalomaniac in the White House that despises everything these gentlemen fought for, it makes my blood run cold.
