Rants & Raves

Comments from our readers:

This is a message for the rider of that motorcycle on Concord Court in south Augusta. The residents out here are sick and tired of that noise from that motorcycle every afternoon doing 100 mph on our streets. So why don't you take it to Savannah River and run it off a cliff?

I see in the newspaper where Marion Williams is running again. Dear Lord, help us. We do not need him downtown in anything anymore. He is a troublemaker. He's a combustion person. He just keeps something going all the time. Please, can't we do without him? ... Think about the past.

It's sad that elderly people who live on a pension and worked 30, 40, 50 years to get it by paying in Social Security have to go without a cost - of - living raise so that Nancy Pelosi can fly her private plane back and forth across the country several times a week. That is such a disgrace it makes you sick.

At a book store the other day I noticed the two best - sellers were cookbooks and diet books. One book tells you how to cook good food and the other book tells you how not to eat it.

The Calhoun Expressway is unbelievably filled with litter. We must do something about it. It is the gateway into downtown Augusta. It is totally filled with litter.

This is a big rave for all the people that drive through the Walton Landing subdivision and playing that loud noise. Keep on doing it. We're writing down your license plate numbers and turning it over to the police. Tickets will be coming.

This is about a mother and daughter. Myself and my daughter were in court this past week and were absolutely, truly blessed by an angel. She was there for two traffic tickets and was going to jail because she didn't go prepared. Please tell this man how wonderfully blessed we feel for him being there. God bless this wonderful man that gave the court $200 that kept my daughter out of jail. I know you said you just moved into town, but what a wonderful, wonderful person you are and I hope Augusta is as good to you as you are.

Sylvia Cooper, you are my main woman. ... You're amazing. I'm in love with you. I'd marry you if you wasn't married. The reason: You're an outstanding woman. I love your articles. You keep up the good work. Every day I read the paper you've got something different and unique. You ought to be running the paper. As a matter of fact, you ought to be the mayor. You would really definitely straighten out a lot of people.

A huge rant to the city of Augusta for hiring and retaining as employees convicted murderers, sex offenders and drug dealers. Unbelievable. Boy do I feel good about who is serving our community, not to mention safe.

Rant #1 - film him, get his

Rant #1 - film him, get his tag #, report him. If he comes by at the same time every day let the police know. However, I don't think you really want him to kill himself so why be ugly?
Rant #2 - all the more reason for me to get out and vote and let my little voice be heard. EVERY VOTE COUNTS
Rant #3 - the SSN cuts are based on inflation, not Pelosi. Everything is not Pelosi's fault. The tie in to inflation was set by a R dominant legislature. Actually, considering how last year saw a negative inflation number, be happy that SSN didn't decrease. That said, I feel your pain.
Rave #4 - Yeah, cute. Don't know anything about the books, but it's possible to eat healthfully and eat well. The "diet" book was probably about that. End obesity in America, lower death rates and medical costs by eating heathy foods, turning off the TV/computer more and getting out and moving.
Rant #5 - I have never been able to figure out why some people have a need to trash up/destroy everything around them. Be kind to mother Earth, she's the only one we have.
Rave #6 - good to know you're taking action and not just whining. Get with Ranter #1 and explain how it's done.
Rave #7 - Let's see, your daughter had not one, but two speeding tickets and did not come to court prepared....you came with her, but brought no money, which means you came unprepared....you let a total stranger give you $200 rather than have her take the consequences for her actions....no strings attached $200????? Something doesn't feel right about this... Other than the fact that your daughter should have to pay him back EVERY CENT plus interest, if he truly acted out of altruism with no strings attached then pay it forward. However, I would like to say he would have done her a better favor by making her deal with her punishment on her own and realizing that she must not endanger other motorists.
Rave #8 - yes Sylvia, you're a keeper. So good that they wouldn't let you stay retired and brought you back. Keep up the good work, I really enjoy your articles.
Rave #9 - your sarcasm is noted and echoed.

It's fried pie today and many

It's fried pie today and many days since I've darkened the alley downtown in this little place called cyber space...what's on the menu CBBP?..oh yeah, he's moved to another place to chat and hyperbolize...howdy all..oh yeah, their following exists elsewhere as well....well, howdy to anyone who is left...here goes...
1 potato, 2 potato....noisemakers...wear ear plugs...Marion needs to retire...he's been running retreads too long....
3 potato, four...taxpayers give you those raises...be glad they still pay your income....fat gluttons and skinny cooks--go figure.
5 potato, 6 potato...gateway?...get real, it's a road and like other roads breeds collection of paper waste blowing in the wind from downtown...noisy vehicles require noise protection...get earplugs...
number seven....good deeds will not go unrewarded...however, does letting the girl off w/o penalty of at the very least being responsible for her own actions, constitute a good thing?...maybe the lesson would be best remembered if she had to spend a few days in lockup and do some community service to pay fines instead of being allowed to go screw up again...jmho...
8-er tater and niner-49-er....well, taters I hope Sylvia won't be interested and what's yer point agin? and now finally we get to one worth discussion...why does the city hire and retain so many criminals? I'll give ya one guess..cuz the bosses are crooks?.Nah, couldn't be...gov't employees? Surely not!....ya get my point of sarcasm? I thought ya might...have a super weekend and find something productive to do besides sit around n talk about nothing....God bless and G'day.

Actually Social Security Cost

Actually Social Security Cost Of Living Adjustments (COLA) are not based on strictly inflation, they are based on the Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers (CPI-W). The Congress enacted the COLA provision as part of the 1972 Social Security Amendments. The provision enacted in 1972 provided for an automatic COLA only if the increase in the CPI-W was at least 3 percent, the so-called “3-percent trigger.” In 1986, the Congress enacted legislation to eliminate the 3-percent trigger. The Congress had a Democrat majority in both 1972 and 1986.

momster: ranter #1 did not

momster: ranter #1 did not say for the owner to drive over the cliff with his motorcycle; all the ranter said was to send the cylce over the cliff. As to the one who raved for assistance at the courthouse--to repeat at least a portion of your sentiments: "your sarcasm is noted." At least there are some decent people around who care. No one knows the circumstances or has all the facts...so what makes you the judge, jury, and executioner? And how do you know the young lady has not learned her lesson? For some, even the threat of going to jail is enough to make a person change for the better.

Multi-culture is fine.....bringing sharia law into this country is another story....it is the EXTREMES that turn people away..... jmo

Well anyway.....I miss my funny posters more & more everyday.....Dr. Feelgood where are you.....don't make me wander in never-never land looking for the right place......why does everything have to change---well tomorrow is another day. Geeez I miss Scarlett & Rhett. :)

I'm saying that Republicans

I'm saying that Republicans are campaigning to "reform" social security. Some of these reforms include extending the age of eligibility, privitizing, etc.

Freedom of Speech - doesn't mean that there are not consequences for what you say. And, it applies to the Government not being able to surpress your speech. If you are a commentator and your employer disagrees with your comments, they may fire you.

Not sure where Concord is in

Not sure where Concord is in south Augusta but Michael Place also has a crotch rocket guy who has to wind it up all the way down the street. I hope to be in the yard one day when he does it because then he would either slow it down or run me down. When he kills a child one day it will be too late for him to think about what a dumb thing winding up a motorcycle on a busy street is.

Not while accepting taxpayer funding!!!!! If you take taxpayer dollars to fund a commentary radio station you should at least make a half hearted attempt to be fair and balanced and respect the 1st Amendment. NPR has never done either. Now that George Soros is pulling the stings at NPR it is an even more hard core left wing media corporation. No more taxpayer funding for NPR. Let George Soros fund their operation. He just gave them $1.8 million so that he could dictate their liberal policies and fire Juan Williams.

Yes, NPR is in trouble. I

Yes, NPR is in trouble. I believe they will lose their federal funding over this.

They get about 16% of their revenue directly from the government. 50% of their revenue is from station subscriber fees (who are using federal grant/funds to pay for that fee) - so indirectly they are getting vast amounts of public funds.

Stop all of that and they will soon meet the same fate as Air America.

They should use the inflation rate, that would be easy, just go to your local super market.

My rant is to Fred Russell.

My rant is to Fred Russell. If you truly want to eliminate duplication of services and save money then petition the law makers and commissioners to eliminate the Marshal's Department. You can transfer the process servers to the Sheriff's Office so they can serve their civil papers. Since the Sheriff's Office already has a Civil Division they can supervise the newcomers. The County savings will come from eliminating all of the Marshal's Department supervisory staff including the Marshal. The savings would probably be several hundred thousand dollars a year.

Just a comment about

Just a comment about momster59 response to Rant#7. No where did it say this young girl had two speeding tickets. It said she had two "traffic" tickets. This could be a number of things besides speeding.

For someone who has never had any dealings with law enforcement or the court systems may not be aware that you have to have the money up front and if this gentleman felt led to help this woman and her daughter out, who are you to discredit it.

Sometimes the Lord speaks and we must obey. I'm sure this man will receive his blessings and who knows how this will effect this young girl's life, what kind of impression this has made on her or her mother to help others or just to remember the kind deed every time she gets behind the wheel of a car.
