Rants & Raves

Comments from our readers:

REPUBLICANS ARE SENDING out notices saying we need to "repeal ObamaCare and replace it with common-sense reform..." Repeal Obamacare? Absolutely! Replace it with something else? No way! Get government out of health care and keep it out.

THIS IS A HUGE RANT for all those that came up with the ridiculous notion that Halloween should be celebrated on any other day than Oct. 31.

THIS IS A MESSAGE to the residents of Fox Run subdivision in Columbia County. I am tired of all the fighting going on in the street. The adults are fighting. The children are fighting. There's cussing and fussing and crazy driving in our streets. ... I'm tired of it. I'm going to start calling the police. This is ridiculous. In the last week three different families have fought in the street and this is going to stop.

THERE'S NO WAY any federal judge should have the power to intervene or have any legal authority in matters relative to who the United States military chooses to serve as soldiers. The military is not an employer per se and should not be subject to equal-opportunity or discrimination statutes. The military is not some social experiment.

I JUST RECEIVED a notice that my prescription drug insurance premiums will more than double next year.

KUDOS TO SYLVIA and Sandy for the great research work they did to ferret out the criminals on the city work force. Rants against the hirers of the crooks who let them get away with committing crimes and being paid for it on city clocks where many hardworking people are paying more fees and suffering furloughs.

THIS IS A RAVE for Bonnie, a Walmart sales associate in North Augusta. Bonnie went out of her way to help a desperate mom find the price of a headband so my daughter could have the perfect outfit for spirit week. Thank you, Bonnie and Assistant Manager Dan. You have proven to me that customer service is not a thing of the past!

THIS IS A HUGE RANT to the lady I encountered a few weeks ago at the Greeneway ... (whose) dogs dragged you across the grass to attack my dog and myself ... Screaming "They aren't vicious" as they are barreling after us with teeth showing and mouths foaming is not reassuring.

THIS IS A RANT for whoever damaged most of the road signs from Evans to Locks up Stevens Creek toward Old Stevens Creek and all the way up Blackstone Camp Road. If there are any witnesses I hope they will come forward, and the person responsible will have to clean every one of the signs and do more community service. He/she obviously has much too much time and freedom.

gays in the military.

gays in the military. "liberalism achieves the exact opposite of its stated intentions." so this decision lets gays come out of the closet. several months down the road, this decision is over turned and the original plan of a Pentagon study and Congressional review is reinstated.

all the newly out of the closet gays celebrating this ruling will get drummed out of the service. exact opposite of intent achieved.

city hiring woes? it's cronyism and nepotism at its worst. since it involves blacks hiring blacks, it'll be treated with kid gloves. for if this were to be addressed for what it really is, black leaders will throw out the "R" word, and I can't think of any administrator with a teflon suit.

Ranter, thank GOD you at

Ranter, thank GOD you at least have it. My employers don't offer insurance, I have none. It would cost me over 600 a month, being high risk. It's time to put price controls on health care. It's time to break the insurance company and medical profession monopoly. It's time to put the brakes on MCG expansion and "research" for profit and university growth.

Rant #1 - get rid of all the

Rant #1 - get rid of all the insurance companies who are denying health care to millions of Americans and go for a system based on the European standard. Having lived in other countries I can tell you that the extreme right is lying when they try to scare people about socialized health care.
Rant #2 - If they want to send the kids trick or treating on Saturday instead of Sunday, let them. The kids will be able to enjoy themselves better because they don't have to get up as early the next morning.
Rant #3 - If entire families are brawling in the street every night, why haven't you picked up the phone? If these brawls involve families with children then the children are endangered. Next time it starts make the call.
Rant #4 - gays serve in the military openly all over the world without the problems cited by the homophobes here in the US. Gays are proudly serving now. Don't ask don't tell is mostly used when someone has a vendetta against another person. Highly skilled, dedicated people are being removed from positions where they are desperately needed all in the name of homophobia.
Rant #5 - we all feel your pain. Let's do away with greedy, profit mad insurance companies for a plan more in tune with the rest of the world.
Rant #6 - kudos. Everyone deserves a second chance, but it is intolerable that some people are allowed to do some of the things they've been caught doing and still keep their employment. Not on my tax dollars.
Rave #7 - Yes, it is good to see people who actually do their job well. Continue the cycle and pay it forward by being the best you can be at whatever you do.
Rant #8 - As a responsible dog owner with three extremely well trained dogs, I agree. It makes me crazy to come upon people who can't control their dogs and then make excuses when I try to give them training advise. My father was an AKC obedience judge and we ran a dog obedience school. You see my dogs behaving with perfect manners, if you won't train your dog, you shouldn't have one.
Rant #9 - Is this the same painter who has been painting body parts on mailboxes?

Choose to have a positive day, Augusta.

When Halloween is on a school

When Halloween is on a school night, and kids go trick or treating, the next day at school is a total wash.

Going on a Saturday night is far more practical. Who cares if it's actually on Oct 31?

I wish they would go to afternoon trick or treat. We had that in Wisconsin and it's much better than evening. You can see the costumes and it's much safer for the kids.

Good morning to all my

Good morning to all my conservative friends. We are presently having light rain fall. Need it. I love Georgia. If you prefer things as they are in Wis., Delta is ready. If you prefer things as they are in Europe, Delta is ready. For the present, with only 13 days until we can have HOPE, I think we need to put our efforts toward reclaiming sanity in our own realms. There must be brakes applied to socialism, we must make decisions to halt all the borrowing from China, we must get conservatives in office be they R or D. Vote the most conservative and certainly one who would oppose our present (too many bad adjectives). GOD BLESS AMERICA, OUR TROOPS, AND OUR VETERANS.

Ranter #3: Why haven't you

Ranter #3: Why haven't you called the police before? And have you done so since you phoned in your rant? If adults and/or teens, in particular, were publicly fighting, I would have called the police and told them the fight was in progress; if the aggressors were children, I would have at least contacted the parents and in the event there was another incident, then I would have called the police (parents not intervening as they should). That's the problem, no one wants to become involved--and that's how many neighborhoods have become what they are today, a haven for thugs.

momster9: "get rid of all the

momster9: "get rid of all the insurance companies who are denying health care to millions of Americans and go for a system based on the European standard." If this is true, then why do the wealthy of those nations come to the USA for complex surgeries and other medical care? By the time someone gets seen, they are too near death for medical care to be of any use...which is why the big O had the massed produced brochures on death and dying printed up for the public when his "healthcare" policy was rammed through congress. And by the way, are you ready for the absence of hospice care come January 1 2011? That deathbill needs to be totally abolished, obliterated, trashed, and burned......it only fattens the wallets of the government-appointed providers and the death panel that will be put in place. Imagine having YOUR medical needs decided by non-medical personnel sitting in an office hundereds of miles from your residency; imagine having YOUR medical records on a hackable government website (yep, they do get hacked and no one has found the perps to date) and being forced into jail or heavily fined if you dare say no. Furthermore, if the European medical system is so great, why are they complaining about the loss of doctors to the US? The US is NOT Europe and we are NOT a collective society.

"DECATUR, Ga. — A church in

"DECATUR, Ga. — A church in Decatur is trying to replace up to $14,000 in stolen electronics and cash after thieves targeted it three times.

Briarlake Baptist Church Pastor Tommy Ferrell told WSB-TV that thieves apparently broke into the building on Saturday. Then they came back two more times.

The thieves took several televisions, a video game system from a youth game room, computer parts and a cash drawer.

Ferrell said the damage initially went unnoticed because church members were volunteering for service projects over the weekend and Sunday worship services were held outside."

It's somebody that is familiar with that church and knew what the schedule was. How truly sad and awful.

"And by the way, are you ready for the absence of hospice care come January 1 2011? "

That's very strange, Mable. My nephew just went on hospice care, and nothing was said about that it would end December 31, 2010.

Because it isn't.

Where do you get this crazy stuff from?

Payments will be cut- but that is far different than eliminating it.

Due to job relocation,

Due to job relocation, several friends of mine moved to England two years ago. Based on their personal experiences of "European" medical care, I'd have to disagree with momster's praises. One example of their health care policy/procedures: a two year old child was repeatedly brought to the doctor for earaches, and each time (after waiting for hours to see the doctor - which rotate, you do not choose your doctor) was sent home with an antibiotic and a good day. After several months of this, the mother was told the child needed surgery to have tubes put in his ears - waiting time... oh, just about 4 months, give or take a month! Basically, the child had to suffer through these painful earaches until they could see him. So she called her pediatrician here in Augusta, made an appt, hopped on a plane and her little boy had surgery within the week. It's been a year and he's doing great. I have Canadian friends who have to wait months for special procedures (MRI's, CTscans, etc...) so they come to the US and pay for the tests themselves. If people are willing to pay a good deal of money vs. free healthcare - what does that really tell you? Free isn't necessarily always worth the wait.

corgimom, lol. I knew someone had the same experience that I experienced with the 'kids'. Another rant would be when parents pull into a big subdivision (that they don't live in) and start unloading kids because they think they'll get more treats. I don't have any trick or treaters now because we live in the country and put a gate at the end of driveway. Not having streetlights can be a benefit in this case.
