Meeting will address Bath railroad changes

  • Follow Metro

Concern over railroad crossing safety in the Bath area prompted Rep. Roland Smith, R-Warrenville, to call a meeting with South Carolina Department of Transportation officials for today.

Smith said he noticed the removal of crossing arms near Front Street and Railroad Street's crossing and was concerned that trains could remain there for a prolonged period, forcing traffic to reroute.

Smith said he was unaware of the change at the crossing and thought it could create a safety hazard for school buses and drivers looking for an alternate route.

DOT officials will attend the meeting today at the Bath Fire Department to discuss the crossing changes.

The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. Call (803) 593-8987 for more information.
