NAACP offers bus trip to Washington event

  • Follow Metro

The Augusta NAACP chapter, along with more than 170 other organizations, will participate in a march on Washington, D.C., in October to "pull the nation back together and demand the change many Americans voted for."

Dr. Charles Smith, the president of the chapter, said the march is to demand jobs, justice and education and reorder national priorities so investments in people come first.

The march, organized by One Nation Working Together, will be held at noon Oct. 2 at the Lincoln Memorial.

A bus will leave Walmart at 3209 Deans Bridge Road at 11 p.m. Oct. 1. To reserve a seat, contact Smith at (706) 724-0390 or drsmit4@earthlink.net.

What I cannot understand is

What I cannot understand is how a person can refer to people as "crackers", but you cannot use the word Wienberger and Trailer in the same sentence without getting a letter from the editor or not having your opinion printed. What's up with that?

Was this not the same kind of

Was this not the same kind of rally Glenn Beck just had? Why didn't they attend this one? Maybe it has something to do with the difference of "Restoring Honor back to the Nation" and "Demanding the change most Americans voted for". Could be a huge difference in what these two gatherings are all about.

From the article: Dr. Charles

From the article:

Dr. Charles Smith, the president of the chapter, said the march is to demand jobs. . . .

The poverty of this man's intellect is astounding.

I'll not be making the trip

I'll not be making the trip as I have to work so I can pay taxes so a good number of the people who ARE making the trip can have a roof over their head.

Old AL like him or not he

Old AL like him or not he doesn't give up trying to get attention. If he ever decided to work for all people he could probably do some good.

This rally does sound a lot

This rally does sound a lot like the one Beck had. There is, however, one difference. People are not going to be receptive to ideas from a big mouth. Just as many whites are not receptive to anything said by Jackson and Sharpton (who aren't spokesmen for all Blacks), many Blacks will not listen to anything from the likes of Beck. Their messages, which may actually be well-intended, get lost in their personalities. They may use buzz words to get their followers going, but when it's all said and done the changes they want to effect don't happen because change doesn't start with people who agree with you. It starts with people who don't agree with you but are willing to at least hear your message, and then begin to understand your stance on issues. What surprises me is that no one has commented on the real reason for the march which is to "pull the nation back together and demand the change many Americans voted for." What doesn't surprise me is that there are some folks on here who really believe most Blacks receive some sort of entitlement. Pops, I think you're very confused on this issue. The vast majority of people who receive entitlements probably won't make this trip. Before you get on a soapbox about entitlements and taxes, please consider this. You lost all say in how taxes are spent on election day and on the day you paid your tax bill. You have three options for changing that:

1. Run for office yourself
2. Vote for better representation at the next election
3. Don't pay your taxes so you can recoup what you think you're owed by taking advantage of the accommodations of the nearest corrections facility.

betty no need to explain, my

betty no need to explain, my comment still stands that everyone attending the march is not a sharpton follower, his merit is not why some (including me) would attend . . .it is sad that you believe that you are the only one who can think for yourself . . .

Betty, you waste your time.

Betty, you waste your time. It's only racist if someone white said it; replace the names with the ones used by the kings of entitlement, and it's speaking truth to power . . . or some such nonsense.

There will be comparisons. But given the media in which they swim, no criticism; there will be deliberate blindness to anything --like facts-- that does not support the myth of a "people drawn together." Disturbing facts like this is already looking like your basic bussed in urban rent-a-crowd of chronic entitlement junkies. I suspect, though, Eric Holder will not be using the threat of investigating the tax exempt status of the black churches sending their busloads of drones to support the posturing of professional poverty pimps like Al and Jesse.

"Just as many whites are not

"Just as many whites are not receptive to anything said by Jackson and Sharpton (who aren't spokesmen for all Blacks), many Blacks will not listen to anything from the likes of Beck. "

And then there are those who don't listen to any of those 3, because all of them are in it for the money and the publicity and that's it. They aren't any different from each other.

Glenn Beck wanted contributions to his fund and publicity. Period. End of story. If he really cared about the US, he wouldn't have asked for contributions.

For all three, it's about money.
