Rants & Raves

Comments from our readers:

This is a rant for Augusta State University for wanting to kick Jennifer Keeton out of school because she stands up for what she believes in. If anybody should be kicked out, it's the people who put this on her.

I am so proud of Jennifer Keeton. Brave young lady. In this culture of Christian bashing and immorality she gives me hope.

Hurrah and raves for Jennifer Keeton for standing up for her religious rights and beliefs.

Would someone please explain to me how we could have won World War II in only four to five years but can't beat the Taliban and al - Qaida in nine years? It's time for us to give up and bring our people home. Enough lives have already been lost on two pieces of nothing.

I'm an employee at SRS. We do not need people building the Savannah River Site's new addition or Plant Vogtle if they cannot read English. You should not be allowed to work at these two nuclear sites if you cannot read or speak English.

Who is responsible for maintaining the median along the Bobby Jones Expressway? As many times as we have driven to and from Atlanta, I have never, never seen trash in the median like what we have along Bobby Jones. Tires, parts of cars, cardboard boxes, all kinds of things thrown out of a car.

Eugene Robinson sees no problem with the New Black Panther Party members standing in front of polling places with batons because they're a fringe group. So is the KKK. What would his reaction be if the folks standing in front of a polling place wore white sheets?

A rant to the MCG employees turning left onto San Sebastian from Telfair Street during rush hour. You are required by law to yield to oncoming vehicles. And yes, a bicycle is a vehicle, according to Georgia law. How will you feel when you run over a cyclist while breaking the law and chatting on your cell phone at the same time?

I was contacted by a telemarketer who identified himself as a representative of a pro-life campaign wanting money to oppose partial birth abortions. I asked what portion of the money went to operating expenses and how much went to the campaign? He said he did not have that information but referred me to a Web site and said I could give online. When I tried to go to the Web site this is what came up: POSSIBLE FRAUD ALERT "Deceptive" groups raise $3,000,000. It mentioned" Elect Life" and " Prolife Campaign"and said no leading pro-life organizations in Washington have heard of them or seen evidence of their work.

KSL, our principal. a

KSL, our principal. a Merrills Mauraders survivor, walked up and down the halls with his paddle. He swatted me once for "lottering" with my BF. How embarrassing. Never did it again, though. At the mention of a fight, students were expelled for the rest of the year. Parent were called by the principal if you were having academic problems, and parents could call the principal anytime with any concern. You're right, jeans were what the farmers kids wore. We dressed for school-pants had belts, dresses no shorter than knees, shirts tucked in. If not, you were sent home. No mambypamby stuff. Behavior problems dealth with quickly and physically.

Aye, a lot of it is about

Aye, a lot of it is about timing. Tough to be entering the work force when returning Viet Nam vets had bumping priority, as well they should. Survived that. Survived the Carter induced downturn. Geez, those were really cold times when interest rates for homes were approaching 18% and people decided they didn't need to be developing property. Hanging own and still surviving.

And we are still surviving. But timing is the key issue.

Corgimom..... I clearly said

Corgimom..... I clearly said ARC has one of the top IB programs in the nation.. AP and IB are two totally diffrent things.. Since you want to bring up ARC's AP scores.... You should know scoring a 3, 4, or 5 is considered a good score... AP tests are scored using 1(the worst), 2, 3, 4, or 5(the best). Majority of colleges require a minimum score of 3 to receive college credit.

ARC is a Georiga 2010 AP Honor School.. ARC also has a top notch IB program that is very desirable. The IB progam at ARC is so desirable. The IB wing of the school had to expand this year... It will include an orchestra, band, choral and art room, along with a recording studio, a couple of science classrooms and a math classroom.

ARC, Westside, Davidson, and AR Johnson in RC and Lakeside and Greenbrier in CC were all 2010 AP Honor Schools...

Let's look at the criteria each school made it under...

AP CHALLENGE SCHOOLS: Schools with fewer than 900 students that are offering AP classes in all four academic areas... AR Johnson, Davidson, and Westside...

AP ACCESS & SUPPORT SCHOOLS: Schools with 30% of AP test takers that are African-American or Hispanic and at least 30% of all AP exams scoring 3 or higher.... AR Johnson, ARC, and Davidson

AP MERIT SCHOOLS: Schools with at least 20% of students taking AP exams and at least half of the AP exams scoring a 3 or higher ... Davidson, Lakeside, and Greenbrier...

Richmond Academy is an

Richmond Academy is an interesting school. It has students from the very rich Hill section and poor students, too. It has excellent golf, soccer, football and basketball teams. It is definitely a diverse school.

Countyman, please tell me the

Countyman, please tell me the schools that will accept 3's on an AP test. Schools require at least a 4 to grant credit.

A 3 doesn't get you anything in the way of college credit. Don't you understand that?

"Corgimom, are you suggesting

"Corgimom, are you suggesting that "magnet" schools should be "dumbed" down so that 76% black student enrollment is achieved?"

What a nasty, racist thing to say.

To suggest that you would have to "dumb down" a school to achieve 76% black enrollment is just plain sad. Do you really think that most black children are ignorant or incapable of learning?

The classes I work in are roughly 90% minority. The kids do very well. I already know that this next year's class is going to be 90% minority, too.

It is truly sad that in 2010, anyone would suggest that a school could not achieve if it were 76% black. That is just appalling.

Yeah, tumbleweed, I volunteer

Yeah, tumbleweed, I volunteer in a kindergarten class- where I deal with people calling others names all day long. That's why your posts don't bother me. And remember what I said- "You- you- big MEANIE" has already been used.

Corgimom please give it

Corgimom please give it up.... I already proved you wrong yesterday on the crime stats... You argued the total number of arrest shouldn't be used and the amount of total cases should be used instead.. I think you didn't want to use the number of total arrest because it didn't go with your anti-Richmond County agenda... But I went along with your criteria anyway(total cases), and it still showed the same thing the total number of arrest did. The overall crime rate is not up...

Let's compare the total cases in 2010 vs 2009... January through June of each year....

2009: 2536, 2234, 2614, 2738, 2781, 2660

2010: 2625, 2120, 2442, 2681, 2842, 2859

February, March, and April of 2010 all have less total cases compared to 2009...
