Sgt. David Holmes, 34, was deployed to Afghanistan in September with the Swainsboro-based 810th Engineer Company of the Georgia Army National Guard.

Of the 1,057 American service members killed in and around Afghanistan since the start of Operation Enduring Freedom in 2001, Holmes is the closest loss to the Augusta area.
He spent the past four years living in Washington County, just south of Sandersville, in Tennille, with his wife and four children.
What kind if comment is that Speeding.
Shy. Holmes gave his life so that you have freedom of speech.

As a Patriot Guard Rider (PGR) I attend funerals by providing an escort (and sometimes protection) for our fallen heroes, past and present and their families.
I am hoping that 'Speeding' comment that he/she was trying to say was: 'How many more men and women are going to have to die before this war is over? How many more funerals are we going to have to hear about?'
I would love to never have to attend another "KIA" funeral again!

We called him officer holmes he was also in law enforcement too, he work with us part-time@ jefferson county correctional facuilty. I served with Sgt Holmes during is tour in the Navy. I also got to know him as a friend. More then just a service member, Sgt Holmes was creative, artistic,and a family man. He never complained about our duties, During down time he spoke lovingly of his family.
I and our Navy Unit are proud and honored to have served side by side with Sgt Holmes. My thoughts and prayers are with your family and friends. May God Bless you, your family, and our country.
