2 men evade deputies during traffic stop

A man bailed out of a car Wednesday as deputies chased him, but left behind a prison ID card with his name and small quantities of marijuana and cocaine, a report shows.

The pursuit started about 11:30 p.m. when a deputy tried to pull over a silver Mercury Grand Marquis for a traffic violation. The car sped up when the deputy flipped on his lights, so the deputy chased him to the driveway of a house on the 2300 block of Richwood Drive, a report states.

Two men ran away, leaving behind the drugs, a loaded revolver and prison paperwork identifying either the driver or the passenger.

Man faces burglary, assault charges

A man authorities accuse of breaking into an elderly Edgefield County woman's home, tying her with duct tape and robbing her was arrested Wednesday, according to Capt. Steve Morris of the Columbia County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies found Marc Anthony Cagle, 55, at Augusta Iron & Steel Works on Martinez Boulevard. Edgefield and Richmond county officers had been searching for Cagle since earlier this month.

Charges include kidnapping, assault and battery and burglary.

Man wanted for firing at ex-girlfriend's home

Richmond County sheriff's investigators are looking for Malcolm Robinson Brown following repeated reports of gunshots fired at his ex-girlfriend's home.

According to Investigator Shane McDaniel, Brown is accused of driving by the woman's residence within the past two weeks and firing what might be a semi-automatic handgun.

Brown was last seen driving a black Cadillac Fleetwood bearing a Georgia Tag: BVN 7851, McDaniel said.

15 arrests in Jefferson County drug sting

LOUISVILLE, GA. --- Fifteen men were arrested and charged with drug offenses as a result of an undercover operation that began in September.

Lt. Teddy Jackson, an investigator with the Louisville Police Department, said officers from the drug unit with Vidalia's police department did the undercover work.

"They ran 22 marijuana buys and eight cocaine buys," Jackson said, adding that a total of 50 warrants were taken.

Local leaders endorse Barnes for governor

Roy Barnes, Democratic candidate for governor, held a news conference Wednesday afternoon at The City Club to accept endorsements from area legislators and a local commissioner.

Reps. Gloria Frazier and Wayne Howard, state Sen. Hardie Davis, and District 5 commissioner Bill Lockett were present to share their support.
