Comments from our readers:

I SEE WHERE Obama is apologizing to Mexico but can't figure what for and the Mexican president gets a standing ovation for badmouthing our laws. Boy, what a bunch of gutless cowards we have running our country. We need George Bush or someone with some guts back or we are finished. Mexico is a thorn in our side.

KATRINA WAS an act of nature. Bush's problem was his handling of FEMA's response to it. BP's oil spill was not an act of nature, so BP is the first and main line responsible for cleanup.

THE UNITED STATES gives Mexico billions of tax dollars to stem the drug flow from that country. So far, no great results as Mexican president Calderon faults the United States' unquenchable thirst for illegal drugs and the supply of "American made automatic weapons" flowing into his country for his continued lack of success. Seal the borders and watch the price of drugs go sky high. Some serious riots will erupt in U.S. streets, and there will be calls for "open borders." It's all about supply and demand.

I THINK KEEPING the "South Augusta Devil's Workshop" closed for eight years was the best thing that the Augusta Commission ever did. For the citizens who seem to have a lackadaisical attitude about pornography, remember that serial killer, now death row inmate, Renaldo Rivera said he started out looking at pornography and then attempted to emulate what he saw.

WHY DOES OUR principal drive his fancy sports car to school when his teachers are being furloughed?

THE RICHMOND COUNTY Board of Education wants to give a raise to the interim superintendant because he has "extra duties." Is it going to do the same for teachers who have extra duties all the time?

DISCIPLINE PROBLEMS are not down in Richmond County schools, no matter what the Georgia Department of Education states. Reports are down, not discipline problems. There's a big difference between stats and reality. Many times teachers don't write kids up for serious offenses because they're concerned they'll be told they lack management skills.

I HOPE LORI DAVIS and the Harrisburgers will take their fight for a chronic nuisance property ordinance all the way to Atlanta and get state law changed so that Augusta can move forward. I'm originally from upstate New York, and my hometown has had such an ordinance for well over 15 years, and it has done a lot of good to clean up the crime and blight.

I'd still like to hear from

I'd still like to hear from one of the anti-porn troglodytes about how they were conceived, they can not ALL be test tube babies. God created the human body and equipped it to enjoy the act of procreation. I have the impression that many of those who are "shocked and dismayed" over X-Mart are probably extremely unattractive and therefore are unable to attract a lover or companion. Perhaps they even shower in the dark so they don't have to risk looking down and seeing a naked human body.

Declaring a Federal Disaster

Declaring a Federal Disaster allows for the feds to send money and assistance however, under our laws the state and local leaders are in charge unless they turn over power to the federal government. The response from FEMA and others certainly could have been better but when you have a bunch of enabled citizens who think the government will solve all of their problems vs. listening to the warnings and taking action, their needs will overwhelm our government no matter who is in charge. As for trying to say the current disaster is the responsiblity of BP and not our Federal Governmnet - hogwash. This disaster occurred in areas under Federal control, not state or local so the response is governed by the Feds and this administration who has done little to nothing. Of course the sitaution isn't Obama's fault, of course he wants the problems solved, just as Bush did in New Orleans and other areas but the response from many agencies of our governmnet have been deplorable followed by many untruths. The EPA has even ordered BP to stop using certain chemicals and yet they continue to do so in the clean up efforts so who exactly is in charge? This is a NATIONAL DISASTER and requires a Federal response although the billing should be sent to BP as they certainly are responsible. State and local leaders have asked the administration for help in solving some issues that they actually can solve and speed up such as blocking the oil from the wetlands and pushing the core of engineers to speed up the permit process. Actually, as President, some of these requests which have been in for over 2 weeks now could be solved with the stroke of a pen and yet President Obama has failed to act. Frankly, no matter who is President, there will always be many of ways to improve how we as a country respond to disasters, etc. but trying to leave the blame from Katrina response with Bush and wave all responsibility of this response from Obama is laughable and shows how the left will continue to blame bush for anything and everything while giving Obama a pass anywhere they can.

Mexico telling the US anything about immigration is a joke - go to mexico without your passport or papers, etc. and see what due process rights you have. Go hiking and cross into Iran accidentaly and see what due process you have - just like the 3 Americans in jail there now. Our country is laughed at by others for our lax laws and enforcement which are using up a great deal of our tax dollars that could be spent to improve America for legal Americans of ALL races and nationalities.

I don't believe the X-Mart is good for Augusta but I do believe in the rule of law and we should not have wasted over 1/2 of a million dollars in tax money. The shop probablay would have been closed by now. And, taking one example of a crime is just ridiculous as you could say that most shows on TV promote crimes as well as video games, and the internet in general.

Really? It's none of your business what car your principal drives or how he spends the money that he legally earns. Everyone spends money in different ways and everyone has something that means more to them than to others. Take your petty attitude elsewhere and worry more about educating your students vs. coveting your principals car.

If you want the raise and the duties of running the RCBOE (personally I think you would have to be crazy) then you would deserve a raise.

That is the problem with discipline and/or crime statistics. Anyone who thinks the school who has the least cases of drug arrests actually has the least amount of drugs is burrying their heads in the sand. If you want your kids to go to a good school, look for one that is good but actually has discipline and crime statistics because ALL schools have plenty of discipline issues, drugs, some weapons, etc. If the records indicate no drugs, no guns, etc. all it really means is that no one in Public Safety, Administration, etc. are doing their jobs.

A Chronic Nuisance Ordinance is needed and our commission needs to put a focus on our needs not play toys such as stadiums.

morning all.......to the 4th ranter....were you at the "south augusta devils workshop" when rivera showed up there and got his porn, or is it possible that riveras porn came from either maes (the "north augusta devils workshop") or maybe even the internet (the "worlds devils workshop")? if you are so happy about how the city fought a losing battle for 8 years, please pay my share of the $500,000 operating capital that the city is now paying the "south augusta devils workshop"

Politicians speak languages

Politicians speak languages we mostly don't believe or understand...
Raw crude is an act of nature, but it took man's greed to turn it loose on the natural environment it now threatens to ruin forever...
Legalize cannabis for recreational use, medical use, and tax it federally...then watch the crimes decrease, and money re-routed to cover some other national need...get those federal prisoners out there cleaning up the spill and bill the costs to BP...we need reform laws enacted for pot...it could save taxpayers plenty.
If you object to the right of free speech, including porn, then shut up cuz you should live by your own standards...oh, you wanna keep free speech? Then shut up about someone else who does too.
If I had a sports car to drive to work in this summer-like weather, I'd be driving it too..wealth envy is alive and well....
If someone takes on temp work not usually their assignment, they should be compensated at the same rate for that extra work as anyone working overtime...if salaried, then a per cent increase for the time they do the extra work...that's easy..why whine about a hard worker?
Stats usually reflect a list of chosen, pre-selected criteria designed to show a desired result...so if incidents are reported less, it means someone is keeping trouble off the records to present a false image of the district in order to attract the new guy...once the bait is out there and the hook is set, they can chum the waters with all the other stuff that smells and isn't as attractive...
And finally, another chapter in the latest Peyton Place saga...stay tuned, same time, same channel....for tomorrow's look into the Harrisburg whine story..no new details, just the same ole same ole...
Have a blessed day while we go out and work, smell the sunshine, breathe the rain, and feel the air brushing our faces full of sweat...G'day.

Tray-Sex is like fire, in the right place at the right time properly controlled it is great, running rampant and unchecked it destroys. The leading, LEADING cause of poverty is single parent families- The majority of inmates in prison-single parent families. Food can be enjoyed but I will not become the 800lb man because I can not temper freedom with responsiblity and commons sense-By the way none of my children were procreated using porn-AND lastly Ted Bundy said porn had a large influance in starting him in his serial killing spree!

Yeah, yeah, blah, blah blah,

Yeah, yeah, blah, blah blah, most heroin addicts used marijuana first. Most alcoholics started with a cold beer or two. Every driver started with an accident free and speeding ticket free record. One doesn't necessarily lead to the other. The notion that anyone who enjoys pornography relies on the X-Mart as the sole-source to get their materials in this day and age is just crazy. "Wow, X-Mart is open, I've never seen a naked woman, but hey, since this is here let me go look....." Nope....I don't buy it. I didn't say pornography was necessary for procreation, I suggest copulation and ejaculation are. In case you haven't looked, that's what is depicted in most porn.

The leading cause of single

The leading cause of single parent families, and consequently poverty, is the loss of the family structure ideal as a standard for our society...as long as outdated systems for helping the needy go unchanged, we will continue to foster the dysfunctional unit as an acceptable role model...absent parents should always be made to provide the needs of their children...giving the custodial parent money does not guarantee the child will benefit since the role model changed from two parents of opposite sex, to almost anything else imaginable....no firm footing means the foundation will slip and anything built on it will fail in a strong enough storm or flood...if ya live on a slope, where every thing leans into the side of the hill to hold on to it you would have a better appreciation for this principle...only those things that have deep roots can grow tall...shallow roots mean short green season for those plants...so too, a deep footing establishes a secure foundation upon which to build a life...our country and society currently seems to have lost its footing.

So, if Sonny outlaws the legal smoke...potpourri?...that contains Damiana leaf, will he outlaw all forms of this herbal remedy for anxiety contained in health food stores and similar enterprises...Shaklee, Amway, etc...Or is it just targeting the one OTC item sold in head shop type stores...? If they want to regulate herbs, I can think of one they should tax and sell prolifically...

CBBP - We have to find out what color RK's new truck is. If they gave them a white one, it might cut down on the meat procurement since the postmortem evidence will show clearly....On the other hand, if they swapped orange for black, there could be a boost in sales!

I could care less if X-mart

I could care less if X-mart sells porn. Obviously there is a market here for it or they wouldn't have fought so long to have the store here. The notion that government should outlaw or try to control a way of thinking is rediculous. Religion has been at the root of centuries of war around the world - shall we ban it too?

dear ranter#5 the same reason why there are football stadiums, b-ball gymnasiums and running tracks being built instead of increased teacher pay, improved teacher safety or purchasing enuff textbooks and supplies, look at you school board there is the problem, they have no idea on the best or most economical or efficient way to spend money, when they run out they raise the mill rate to get more.
