Rants & Raves

  • Follow Metro

Comments from our readers:

I am retired now, but when I was a pilot I could fly the airplane by reference to the instruments alone, talk to the controllers, read charts, watch the radar for storms and set up the navigation all at the same time. One could say that I know how to multitask, but I do not use my cell phone while driving; it's dangerous. Yesterday someone drifted into my lane while talking on a cell phone. Cell phones should come under the heading: "There should be a law..."

If Obama would fire Nancy Pelosi, his ratings would probably go up some. Where did they find this woman?

Rants to the out-of-town homebuilders that use illegals. Why don't the major real estate houses force them to use documented labor?

When will the medical community learn the definition of the word "appointment"? Give us a break; we all have schedules, too.

A rave for two good Samaritans, one male and one female, that independently assisted my elderly father with a flat tire in the parking lot at Trinity Hospital - whoever you are, I thank you - and the world needs to know that good people are out there. God bless you both.

If our unemployment rate is over 10 percent and more likely 17 percent, who in the world is manipulating the stock market? It is going up when we are at huge deficits, massive spending and broken Social Security, welfare and other giveaway programs? We need to get back to a stable stock market that reflects the grave condition our country is really in.

A big rave to all of the Harrisburgers! Y'all are showing the rest of Augusta what can be accomplished when citizens get involved. People should not have to put up with trashy neighborhoods and persistent crime. South Augusta could learn a lot from Harrisburgers.

A huge rave for Jason Scherer and the Irish American Club for organizing the St. Patrick's Day parade. And a rave to all of the people who paraded and those who watched the parade despite the rain. It was great to see so many people on Telfair as well as Broad. What a friendly and fun time!

Could the Chamber of Commerce building in downtown Augusta be more of a detrimental eyesore to the otherwise charming, if weary, cityscape? How about razing that building and opening the view back up. Put the chamber down on the canal or the river. Or refurbish one of the dilapidated older structures and put it in there.

The Richmond school board might blow $20,000 on a nationwide search for a new superintendent. The cost for a local person for the job will be zero!

Rant #2, Unfortunately she is

Rant #2, Unfortunately she is from the Bay Area where I now live. She is the Joan Rivers of politics. I hear you can make jewelry from fossilized dinosaur dung but I don't know what to make of her. I am afraid when she is on TV in Congress and she sits down that her skin will tear away from her face and she will look like the Nazi whose face melted in the Indiana Jones movie. Other than that she is quite a gal.

Flying while surfing the

Flying while surfing the Internet should be against the law just like cell phones should be while driving on the hwy. Remember the pilots who looked up from their computer to discover they had flown past the airport a hundred or so miles...? Driving while using a phone may put you past the red light, into another lane of traffic or worse, kill someone you didn't see crossing the street cuz you were texting on Tweeter....Are the lines so blurred in our minds that we simply refuse to get it? Put down the phone and drive the car...or accept the consequences when they catch up to your apathy.

Sometimes a doctor has to

Sometimes a doctor has to treat a patient in the hospital who was not scheduled but entered ER...life comes first, then your schedule demands...appointment is not set in stone, since life changes w/o prior notification...get it? Another self-absorbed citizen who can't learn to roll w the punches life swings at ya...take a chill pill and call CBBP in the morning...

If the stock market weren't

If the stock market weren't already so falsely inflated we would be in the worst depression the nation has ever experienced....you really want that? Go ahead and just let the LIE prevail...I'm looking forward to the DAY when I get to go home and leave this place...the signs are portends of doom...I don't make this stuff up...God said it and that settles it.

Are you talking about the

Are you talking about the view to Olde Towne and the block or two of pawn shops and dives that cover the lower end of Broad...? If the building was old you would cry tear it down...but put a modern structure out there and it's an eyesore....sometimes you get both...a bad view and an ugly structure...but to tear it down and spend more taxpayer money for an insignificant building is mindless...

There is a rental property 2

There is a rental property 2 blocks from here that houses 11 spanish only speaking people.1 that is legally here and 10 that use his ID to work until caught. They all send money back to mexico(money that totally leaves OUR economy)employers use these workers because they are cheap and plentiful.Employers don't have to pay taxes for these workers, don't have to worry about injuries to them and can fire them and replace them at their leisure. There are between 30 and 45 million illegals(government estimates)that are on the verge of citizenship and will make a huge voter base for the dems.they will be voting in Nov.2010 and there will be more dems. elected

While I absolutely don't

While I absolutely don't agree with hiring illegals, I always wonder how people like wizzard really get their information? I can't imagine that particular household openly advertises their situation knowing the risks of being caught. In addition, I know this isn't a popular opinion but having seen the work ethic of many immigrant farm workers while living in another state (no I don't know their legal or non-legal status), the owner couldn't pay American born workers to do the job. Many youth today have a sense of entitlement, are lazy and don't want to work for minimum wage - let alone get dirty, work long hours or sweat for more then a minute. Until we go back to teaching and setting the expectations for a strong work ethic in our youth, I don't see this issue going away.

I usually do not read much of what is forwarded me, but I thought I should share this which closed out a rather lengthy email this morning:

"A veteran is someone who, at one point, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America ' for an amount of 'up to and including their life. That is Honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it."

Without Zeno we wouldn't have

Without Zeno we wouldn't have r&r today!!!Well maybe we need to be NICER to the ones we have.. We have a welfare & market state of today..The few in the middle(us)are sorta in limbo waiting for the next show to fall.(googlenews) As long as we pay folks to sit at home & have kids they can't afford we will have illegals working & sending $$$ back to their home country..When the illegals are made LEGAL(this will happen) we will then have politics like Mexico has today..Very, very poor (us) few very, very rich(top political group) laws will be skewered to soo many giv-a-ways that this country won't be the "UNITED" States anymore... It will become the "DIVIDED" States...Think this can't happen... look around now..We are letting this happen. We are out of control now.. We have to get the sensible people to the voting booth & in Gov. positions while we still can...Another 5-6 years we won't be able to. IMHO

A late good morning to all!

A late good morning to all! To add to Zeno's "the day the Lord has made, I offer this little poem, so that you all will become "infected."

"A Smile is a Curve that Sets Everything Straight"

Smiling is infectious
You catch it like the flu
When someone smiled at me today
I started smiling too

I passed around the corner
And someone saw my grin
When he smiled I realized
I’d passed it on to him.

I thought about that smile
And realized its worth
A single smile just like mine
Could travel round the earth

So if you feel a smile begin
Don’t leave it undetected
Let’s start an epidemic quick
And get the world infected

That burger joint that torn

That burger joint that torn down to build The Kroc was called "Broad Street Burgers" not "Harrisburgers"... though I think the latter would have been a better name. Still, they were poor imitations of the Whataburgers that used to be sold there. Some filipinos bought it and the burgers never tasted the same.. they were still better than what you get at the chain places... but nothing can beat an original Waterburger.
