Rants & Raves

Comments from our readers:

To the person who said Obama is brilliant: You need to quit drinking the Kool-Aid. Obama is an idiot. He's had an opportunity to get our economy going; instead he is killing it with his health care agenda. He needs to focus on jobs, not overhauling something that isn't broken to start with.

Lighten up, man, the guy has enough problems without you spreading hate and disrespect about the president. He is trying to do the best for Americans without health insurance and jobs. You must make a good salary and have good insurance, so lay off and let him help the poor in this country of ours, the only country among the democracies of the world that does not have health insurance for its citizens. A small country like Israel covers its citizens, and yet the biggest and richest country cannot. Figure that out.

Rant to the government's wasteful spending. Put a single mother in office and watch the budgets magically balance.

This a rant for the chairman of the Richmond County Democrat Party. He needs to stock up on tissue paper because after 2010 there will be only one Democrat left in office, and after 2012 he will be gone as well.

I always thought my civilian gun rights allowed me to shoot at wild game or the odd home invader. The United States has never been, and will never be, a dictatorship or, for that matter, an anarchy, despite the efforts of those who think the purpose of gun ownership is to shoot government agents they disagree with. We are the government.

This is a HUGE rant for people who do not know how to act in public. Please stop ruining someone else's good time because you got a little offended and want to fight.

I don't see how Augusta could be picked in Kraft's Single Best Town Contest because I don't see Augusta as being a typical American town, not with all the bickering and everything that goes on here. I don't know where the person that entered Augusta in the contest got that idea because I've never seen anything like that around here.

I'm calling in regard to the furloughs and the budget cuts to education. I'm a teacher in Columbia County, and I feel the need to make it clear that the county is not taking the necessary steps to curb expenses. I recently received a retirement booklet that has never been produced before. If we are in an economic downturn, why did they do it?

Richmond gangs keep getting more dangerous. And the Richmond schools spokesman says students must "better themselves." When students have become animals, they will not discipline themselves, so it's time for government to do the disciplining.

morning all, to the last

morning all, to the last rant, if the government is going to discipline the children, should they raise them too? im thinking that the parents should be the ones that discipline the children, and if they are not willing to do that, they should be held responsible for the actions of the child....how can you expect the schools to discipline the children when they are not even allowed to use a red pen to grade papers because "all that red on the paper might upset the child"?

For you early risers.

For you early risers. Wrightsboro Rd is closed between Maddox Rd and Flowing Wells Rd due to a serious traffic accident. The driver was ejected and suffered very serious (possibly fatal) injuries. It happened about 5am, the authorities are still in the early stages of cleaning it up. Oh yeah, G'mornin.

Good Morning from the Ellis

Good Morning from the Ellis St. Canal Coffee, Donut, Luncheonette and Psychiatric Center. This morning we have a fine delicately brewed Goober Coffee ( yes, just like they made in the south during the great war), brewed from finely roasted peanuts, served with a fried Pie ( the likes of which you've never tasted before) filled with all sorts of surprises. Today's lunch menu will be schoolhouse po-boys ( that's a peanut butter sammich for all you uneducated types) served with lactose free milk ( keeps the greenhouse gases down) and gooseberries!! Our resident Psychiatrist has finally recovered and rehung his shingle (Idea for next weeks lunch menu) and will give everyone a 3 minute evaluation for free! ( His opinion, not your mother-in-laws)!

I agree with the 8th comment.

I agree with the 8th comment. Go paperless with that information there was nothing in that booklet that needed to be personlized for each employee. What a waste of money, who's bright idea was that?

Not a happy camper this am...Last week we got additional bill for taxes here in Gwinnett (to keep police-fire-library going) now we are told by the cpa we will pay more $$$ in taxes this year...then today on tv I see that MANY folks are ripping off the EBT cards by going to gas stations & buying cigs-lotto tkts.-chips & then the cashier rings up over 200.00$$ keeps $100 & gives the buyer $100 & has maybe $$6.00 of real grocery products....& even drugs are bought with these cards...WHEN are we going to wake up?? Wall St. ripps us off....EBT cards rip us off ..our good jobs are going-going-gone...WHAT'S NEXT!!

Why is it that some folks

Why is it that some folks feel that these "feel good give-a-way programs" won't affect THEM? It always comes back & bites the tax-payer in the butt. We can't keep everybody fed, clothe, educated, doctored, housed & etc. We will have a revolution in this country like never before.. The tea party folks will be mild milk toast as to what will happen. Too many rip-offs will ruin any good program we have ever thought of having in the US. We have got to stop the INSANITY. A friend just told me that a family near her parents are living in section 8 housing,,,have meals on wheels every day. & there are 5 adults in the house ...& guess what,,they don't work!!(in Augusta near Daniel Village btw)..Don't you think if they had to work to eat they could find SOMETHING. I know I could.

Amen seenitb4. Here is a Ben

Amen seenitb4. Here is a Ben Franklin quote. I've posted it before but it is quite relevant to your comment. He is a genius!

"I am for doing good to the poor, but...I think the best way of doing good to the poor, is not making them easy in poverty, but leading or driving them out of it. I observed...that the more public provisions were made for the poor, the less they provided for themselves, and of course became poorer. And, on the contrary, the less was done for them, the more they did for themselves, and became richer."

Our "poor" are way too comfortable in their poverty. They will never, ever get out of it - and that's the way the democrats want it.

To The Person who said Obama

To The Person who said Obama is an Idiot: Wrong, moron. Obama is the President of the United States of America. You're the Idiot.
For the Augusta Chronicle to print the "Idiot" hate speech from that moron shows their move toward civility has light years to go. Free speech is a wonderful thing, but unfortunately admits any and all lies and propaganga as well, the main specialty of the Chronicle morons.

It took George Bush eight

It took George Bush eight years to get us in theis mess, and you want the president to get us out in a year?? Do you really think that the country got in this shape in a year? If you do then you must be one of those people who was getting rich for the past eight years, when George Bush was giving away the country, and you had your hands out, and filled your pockets!!!!

No VNVET.... We are the idiots for letting the US get in this condition. What other country could you get FREE this & FREE that...we are making this great country into a helpless giant toad. We won't be able to compete in the real world any more because we will be strangled to death with TAXES..Someone has to pay for every giv-a-way...& guess what,, I for one I'm sick to death of it.. It would be great if the truly needy got the help but that's not going to happen here anymore.

EBT cards are great for

EBT cards are great for helping someone out of a difficult time. There should be a limit to how long they can get it though. This will give incentive to look for other ways to put food on the table. Those who have lost jobs and need help until they can find another, un paid medical leave need help. But the ones who live on the welfare wagon need to get off. Young people getting section 8 housing, having kids every year unmarried, different fathers for each, it's crazy. When do we put our foot down?!
