Rants & Raves

  • Follow Metro

Comments from our readers:

I want to thank the Augusta Commission for considering the once-a-week garbage pickup and lowering the rates, especially for senior citizens who do not have garbage and have been charged on their taxes and are losing their homes because of the amount of tax.

A rant to the terrible, lazy parents that let their kids go out of the house or car with dirty faces and hands. It's a disgrace. It's no wonder some kids have no self-respect.

A rant to the Grovetown water department. I have called numerous times to report my water having a strong chlorine smell in my kitchen and bathroom faucets and that my family cannot drink the water out of the tap because it smells so bad. And each time I am passed around like a ball to someone who does not know how to answer my question. It is so bad that I have to use bottled water for drinking and cooking. If I am paying for water, I should be able to drink what I am paying for.

Please take Cul De Sac out of the comics. There is nothing at all interesting about it. In fact, I feel dumber reading it.

Keep calling the Richmond County Sheriff's Office to report those booming cars. We are making progress.

Are we so intimidated by the gun lobby that we are afraid to make a concerted effort to take illegal guns away from young thugs and other criminals? It seems to me that if we take away criminals' guns, eventually only the good guys will have guns. Problem is, the gun nuts don't want to take guns away from anybody, including criminals.

OK, city commissioners, enough is enough of the stupidity. You all need to go. First of all, forget about a new baseball park and trolleys downtown. Folks, if we are talking about closing the public golf course, which is another stupid thought of Fred Russell's, then why not let the university have it? At least it would be used and maintained?

Get ready for budget cuts! Cut the nursing program! Raise the student fees! Budget cuts are coming! Hey, let's buy a golf course.

I'm curious as to whether the people in Augusta have looked into getting red light cameras. They certainly work, and they certainly need them in this area. I can't believe the number of people that run red lights.

OK, folks, if it's 5 or 6 o'clock, and it's raining. Turn your headlights on. I'm transporting my children. You're hard to see. If it's raining and it's cloudy, you're supposed to turn your lights on. It's rush hour traffic. Columbia Road, Belair Road, Wrightsboro Road, Wheeler Road.

Hey happy, hope you are well. You did not miss a whole lot today. Some juvenile poster (I will let you guess who) thinks it is funny to make fun of your poster name. Same junk as always.

They really ought to let

They really ought to let folks pay on a sliding scale for city utilities...I mean the city is always allowed to slide when it comes to ripping off its customers...if they can do with less, then we'll consider doing likewise.
Like father like son, so I guess the parents don't have any self-respect either.
Water is life. Why would any gov't entity want to protect that?
Noted, and noted again.
Quit making and selling hand guns and collect all of them. Melt them into electric cars...or sell to China and use the money to fund REAL schools.
Does anyone still play the patch? Give the land to UGA-Aug and let them build new academic buildings for a satellite campus.
Thanks Sonny for managing our tax money so well. When no one has the education to run this state we'll be farming out of kids to a foreign country to learn anything.
Yeah, let's just give big brother more involvement...cameras don't stop the accidents that happen, they just raise revenue and spy on innocent citizens.
You forgot Washington Rd...
Okay, Turn your clocks forward now..before you forget folks...cuz it's gonna be 420 an hour earlier today.... Have a super blessed day and go to church...before you forget God is waiting on you there.

For #2: We had school

For #2: We had school clothes, church clothes, and play clothes. If we went to a medical appointment or clothes shopping, we wore our school clothes. If we were going out to dinner, we wore our church clothes. Regardless, we were always clean and presentable, and we were always well behaved. We had manners. Our parents did not take us out when we should have been at home taking a nap or at bedtime so we weren't in stores and restaurants whining and crying because we were tired. People sure have changed.

Brief analysis of the gun

Brief analysis of the gun issue. If you are under the age of 21, you can not own/possess a hand gun. You must obtain a concealed carry permit if you wish to carry a hand gun on your person. No convicted felon shall be allowed to own/possess a hand gun. Certain misdemeanors also prevent you from LEGALLY carrying a hand gun. If we posted these laws at various venues around town informing people of theses facts we could solve the problem, since we all know people obey the law 100% of the time. Especially the thug who wants to pop a cap in somebody!

Our organization (VVVC) many

Our organization (VVVC) many years ago gave a Representative a bill to be submitted in congress that would over a short period of time solve the gun problem. The main point of the bill was, If anybody in the US was found carrying a hand gun with out a permit and not registered, the penalty was an automatic 20 year prison without a trial or parole. This would be in addition to any other crimes they would have committed. It would not be long before illegal guns would disappear from the streets. There were many other provision proposed in the bill.

Ranter #3. Use your noggin,

Ranter #3. Use your noggin, buy a water filter for your faucets, its certainly cheaper than cooking with bottled water. Send a sample of your water off for testing though I doubt you'll find anything. You are drinking the same water as everyone else, what do you think they are doing, sending only super-chlorinated water to your house? Geeze....

Ranter #6. That is the most riduculous post I've think I've ever seen. What is your plan for finding these criminals & removing their gun - before they commit the crime? I think you've been watching the Minority Report a little too much.
