This is a rant for the Department of Labor. I was in there today trying to e-mail an application to a job. The people who were supposed to help those of us looking for a job were nowhere to be found. I go to a desk and ask, and the people there look at me like I'm crazy. I went to another desk and asked for someone to help me, and a lady was sent to the desk who said: "I don't know what to do. I'm not here for that." Well if you are not here for that, why are you there?
My rant is to the people that voted for Obama. He said we needed change. Well, you've got his change. There are no jobs, and if he passes the health insurance bill, you will pay dearly. He owns the auto industry. He wants to own the banks.
I don't know who wrote in about the president doing such a good job. He is putting us further and further and further in debt. I don't know why he thinks he is supposed to have his fingers in everything.
If President Obama cannot close Guantanamo Bay and move 300 people out of there in one year, what makes you think that he can manage the health care system of 300 million Americans?
This is a rant against the proposed change to trash collection. I and the majority of residents can do with once-a-week pickup with no problem, but reducing the size of containers is like reducing pickup to once every two weeks. I suggest leaving yard waste as is. Just remember, if people can't get rid of it at the curb, you'll see it somewhere along the highway. We have a good system. Some changes can be made, but don't go to extremes and ruin it.
Don't Georgia lawmakers realize that Georgians know a fee is just another word for tax? Wake up, politicians! Cut, cut, cut! Cut spending; cut programs; cut departments. And start by cutting the totally unimportant.
Being photogenic and affable is all well and good, but it takes more than just that to be an effective mayor. You need strong convictions and the guts to say and do what's right. From what I have seen over the last several months, Harrisburg community activist Lori Davis fits the bill of what Augusta needs in a mayor.
A rave for all volunteers who offer their time generously and tirelessly in helping make the CSRA an even better community. Please remember to thank a volunteer whenever you see one.
A rant for Augusta Commissioner Jimmy Smith, who wants to deny taxpayers the timely convenience of appearing before them and calling a proposal for 5 p.m. meetings "a "very immature move." And to Commissioner Corey Johnson, who talks about their being "the elite" chosen by the people to set policies and procedures for all.
