Rants & Raves

At one time The Chronicle published the top salaries at MCG. This may be the time to do that again. If the top earners were to take a cut in salary, surely all of the programs in peril could be saved.

I must disagree with the ranter who would like to see the gang babies put on chain gangs. There was a certain amount of productive dignity about chain gangs that the spoiled little posses could just never achieve.

It wasn't race that made me hate Clinton, or Carter, but somehow every leftist knows that it is race that makes me hate Obama. Come on, people. The world does not revolve around skin color. I hate his policies, and I would hate them if he were as white as fresh snow.

RAVE to Ed Turner and Number 9 for putting on a great show! Rant to the people who spend good money on concert tickets, then proceed to talk throughout the performance. Go home and talk! You know who you are.

Money in the amount of $900 million is to be used to aid schools with low graduation rates. Billions, maybe trillions has been spent nationwide, and what is the result? The U.S. education system has continually gone south with state and federal government involvement. Money is not the answer. Cutting bureaucratic overhead, getting back to fundamentals, rescinding courses that are more entertainment then educational and finally making the school principal responsible to the community, not the superintendent, will result in real improvement.

Headline: "Legislators resent high salaries for college brass." About time. The taxpayers have been outraged about the insanely high salaries/perks ever since they started. Top college admin types convinced stupid elected officials that they, the admins, were in limited supply, thus they must get the overstuffed paychecks.

Dr. Bedden is young and full of energy. Why let him go? Augusta needs more young people in authority to push this city forward. All of these old school board members need to step down and let young people take over.

When a political leader - in this case Nancy Pelosi - has to say her party is not in crisis, you can bet Dems are in crisis, big time.

Please tell the Wife Saver man that the chicken is an Asian immigrant; the brown thrasher is a native.

Lori Davis and Butch Palmer are the heroes of Harrisburg. They have shown all of us what true citizenship is all about, that we can make a difference to our communities if we get involved and don't take no for an answer.

If leadership costs a premium, no matter whether it be president, ceo, or whatever, no matter the employer, then we should see and receive the best leadership...posting salaries means nothing. The results should be rewarded if deserving, and no rewards for poor and ineffective leadership. This should address #1 and #6. The respective leadership should be obvious w/o knowing what they earn.
#2. Noted
#3. Hate is kinda strong...I'd have to say I dislike or disagree..but hate equals murder in the heart. Would you really like to kill the president? I thought not.
#4. Manners are not something anyone knows these days. New generation, new rules. Disrespect runs rampant. Just read the R&R's.
#5. Add another R and you have the basic three, read, write, and math. Accomplish this and education in America will improve fundamentally. Forget all the fluff and perks and such and just go back to the basics.
#7. More about Bedden...I heard he was leaving...let's focus on what to do after he's gone. Are their any young professionals waiting in line for the job? Then put up or shut up.
#8. Politicians are in crisis. Chaos rules the empire. And don't believe what they say...please, don't believe them...they lie to spin their own web of deceit.
#9. Both, evidently are migratory birds, so neither is a native.
#10. Yeah, right. I think you might have been testing the collected contraband when you wrote this.
Okay, that's my penny on these thoughts. G'nite and g'mornin'...ya'll play fair and remember it's always 420.

Here's one rant to add: To all those I worked for this yr that thought I was doing them a favor when I let them compensate me with only a fraction of what the job was worth...the yr is over and so is my patience w folks who take advantage of good-hearted gestures of kindness. In other words, my costs are now comparable to all my competition. Unless your bank account is smaller than mine (zero), you'll pay me for what the job is worth. No more freebies, no more cut rates, no more being your doormat. I'm done being shafted on a regular basis. Being nice just doesn't reward me like it used to. Remember that next time you pick up the phone and call me. That's it.

JoeWillie - "Home grown, carpet baggers, invaded" huh? You have just made my day with the belly-laugh to start it off. Thank you! I'm off to research what a "home grown invader" is. This is a good time for it....w00t!

Trouble

when did augusta get exclusive rights to hating the president? or is it only in augusta that he is hated because he is black? (i do not hate obama, that is way too strong an emotion for me to feel towards him, but i do dislike his policies)

Zonaelia READ YOUR POST AGAIN TO YOURSELF OUT LOUD and it won't take long for you to figure out why you have been shafted on a REGULAR basis.

ZenoElia

Ranter #5. No one really wants to face the real problems in our schools. Schools like anything else that our federal government has seized control of, must conform to political correctness which almost guarantees stagnation. When our school systems became flooded with incapable teachers, education suffered. When our school systems were adjusted to fit baby sitting needs, education suffered. When achievement levels were dumbed down so underachievers could feel good about themselves, education suffered. Money, nor even more money will correct the problem. We need leaders in our schools that care about education, not just jumping from system to system trying to build a personal dynasty. We need qualified teachers, and only qualified teachers to teach the children. We need parents that will accept that their little angel is not really an angel. and allow schools to discipline. I am not claiming that this is all inclusive. There is much to be done, throwing money isn't the answer and federal government intervention is far from the answer. Government intervention caused much of the above cited problems.

Sarge: It pays to recycle!

Sargebaby

Ayetidiosi, sounds more like our old C-rations. Bob Hope once told about eating so much concentrated stuff on tour, that when he took a drink of water, he exploded.

Ayetidiosi

Aye must be old. Aye remember that joke. =:-O

Vet, I couldn't agree more. Time to start letting parents worry about how good or bad their little brat feels if they can't master the three Rs. Also time to put "special ed" students in spcail ed classes so they don't disrupt those who are not in need of special ed and want to learn. As long as I'm at it, kick the thugs out of school and put them either in an alternative school or jail.

Sargebaby

USAVet, when the education systems became stepping stones to higher paying careers, that's when they began to suffer. Losing the brightest educators to industry and high finance didn't help education at all. Then, the quality of teachers is also an influence. There are millions of wonderful educators, but the sad thing is, most of them are not ideal for the classroom. I've always maintained, when a student fails to learn, the teacher failed to teach. Why is this? Because too many teachers do not know a tinker's darn about how to motivate their slow students.

Sargebaby

Aye, I am old! So was Bob when he told it! :o)

Ranter #7, Richmond County cannot afford to pay Dr. Bedden what it would cost to keep him here. Besides, he is already committed to Texas.

Emerydan

For raver #10: Lori Davis would make a strong candidate for mayor

Ayetidiosi

Dan? Why waste an agreeably strong candidate on a position with no real authourity?

seenitB4

Good am Augusta....In the AJC today it says this could be the year for nonwhite newborns to outnumber whites...minorities made up 48 %of US childen born in 2008...census projections suggest America may become minority-majority country by the middle of the century. Gwinnett cty. has shifted from 16% minority to 58% minority..Blacks & hispanics have nearly doubled while the # of white young people stayed the same.. Soooo if you don't like the politics of today I would say it's going to turn more democratic with the population shift..So what do you folks suggest? We don't have another area to move to,,,,most whites stop having MANY kids because THEY can't afford them..We can not keep paying for folks to have MORE kids that they can't afford either. Let's start doing away with the benefits for sitting on your butts & having kids programs...So this isn't pc...who cares...

Emerydan

Because she would actually take some initiative and bring some real authpority to the position. As just a private citizens, Mrs Davis has lead the way to get a CNPO passed, even helped pay to bring the expert on the subject to Augusta. While taxpayers are on the hook for $500,000 for another masterplan that will likely sit on a shelf gathering dust, Mrs Davis helped organize private donors to pay for 100% of the costs to bring John Campbell to Augusta.. and then they moved quickly on his suggestions and are on the verge of drafting a CNPO as we write. To me that shows great leadership and outside the box thinking and good organizational skills. Someone with those qualities, like Mrs Davis, could make a the mayor a powerful position.

Ranter #1 wealth envy. Most of those people are doctors who command a very high salary in the private market. Paying them somewhat equal pay is the only way to recruit them.
Ranter #2 as long as we have parents who don't take responsibility for their own lives then they will have kids who do the same. Time to end the entitlement programs so people can teach their kids that hard work does pay off
Ranter #6 Wealth envy, at least those people are working for their money. Billions upon billions more are wasted every year & given to those who refuse to work
Ranter #7 and when the president of the United States stands up and says "I am not a socialist" you can believe that he is and is also in a crisis.

ZenoElia

I've often thought in times past the US ought to adopt a restriction rule on folks who receive public entitlements as regards them having more then two children. If you are on welfare, two kids are the limit, tubes tied, males vasectomized if they father more than one out of wedlock. China has controlled population with limits on births per family and they are still the most populated country on Earth. Not a popular idea, but it's economically sound to practice involuntary birth control on families who won't be responsible enough to do so voluntarily and thus keep the rise of gov't program costs maintained in some managable way. If they won't eliminate the programs or streamline their costs, then enact a law to make sure it is a controlled program regarding the costs. Besides, not all minorities are tax paying citizens since so many fail to work for themselves and instead choose to live off the benefits of the more responsible citizens who are paying their way to live here in this country. Not PC but as you said, who cares?

countyman

I definitely think we need more people(27-35 years of age) leading Augusta. And not just doing it behind the scenes either. We need them in important postions. Getting rid of Jimmy Smith, Don Gratham, JR Hatney, and Jerry Brigham would be a great start..

Emerydan

countyman... I agree with your post 100%!!
