Rants & Raves

Comments from our readers:

This is a rant for The Chronicle and all of Augusta. So you are just going to sit and let the governor and the Legislature get away with wasting $40 million a year on a new Athens MCG campus (eventually a politically motivated second medical school) that we do not need, while MCG Augusta and ASU suffer from these budget cuts. Where is Charles Walker when we need him?

OK, Richmond County, look around town for a replacement for Superintendent Bedden. We have many who can step up and assume this role, and have a vested interest in our community.

Story says it's unfortunate that Dr. Bedden might leave Augusta. Why unfortunate? Every day more stories of school gangs, major crimes from students, fewer kids even able to read and do math in grade school. Bedden seems to like taking credit for anything that sounds good. Let him take credit for the failures. Also, does Richmond County not have one person who will be a good school leader? Hire from home!

If saving money was important, why not have police and city managers use their own cars for traveling to work and leave city vehicles parked downtown when not in use? Lots of gasoline would be saved. This perk could be eliminated if these people really cared about the local economy and budget.

The MAIN reason for right of arms is to defend yourself against dictatorial government. The gun amendment says "people" have the right to bear arms. That's the people in the opening lines of that document - "We the people." As for the "militia" clause: At the time of the Constitution, the military consisted of local militia made up of civilians, all of whom supplied their own weapons. Thus, it's the individual Americans who have the rights, not some government entity.

Two teens are arrested for beating a fellow student until his face bones broke. They seem to like being in a gang. We should go back to chain gangs, and then see how much they like gangs.

This is a rant for the Monday morning traffic at Augusta Utilities' Peach Orchard Road office. It looks like something should be done about that. There's a line to pay water bills, and it stops traffic. And that's an accident waiting to happen.

This is for the person that wrote in about people being disrespectful to our president. It's always going to be like that as long as there is a lot of hatred among these people in this country. People just don't care for a black president; you can see that in the way they disrespect him. It will always be like that as long as he's in office. He's trying to do the best he can, but people should try to realize that he can't get things done. He's doing a pretty good job.

Stop trying to play the race

Stop trying to play the race card for our president. My dislike for him has nothing to do with his skin color. It's all about what he thinks are solutions to the very real problems in our country. His philosophy of life is so far out there, that I cannot support him at all. There are always people who won't like the president, past, present or future, no matter his/her race.

Although you may consider it

Although you may consider it a "perk" for law enforcement officers, specifically RCSO Deputies to take their cars home if they live within the county or the immediate area within Georgia, we the citizens are the ones who benefit the most. First, they do not drive their cars while off duty except to/from special duty assignments. Special Duty assignments provide for many more deputies in our community "on duty" at schools, restaurants, shopping centers, downtown, the mall, etc. at no cost to the taxpayers other than a minimal amount of gasoline. Often these deputies make arrests and when this occurs the must transport the suspects, keeping road patrol deputies free to do their other duties and continue patrol. In addition to special duty uses, numerous arrests have been made by deputies to/from work/home such as DUI arrests, aprehension of buglars, arrest of robbery suspects, assistance to motorist in distress, traffic control at accidents, etc. as well as the additional visibility of patrol cars which helps to reduce speeders and other agressive drivers on the roads. When deputies have their cars at their residence, it allows for quick and immediate response in call outs or emergency situations which again benefits the public at large. Cars assigned to deputies are far better taken care of than "pool cars" or cars that are shared amongst officers as this is simply human nature. Officers spend their own time or money keeping their cars looking good and in good shape and the benefits to the community by having officers drive their partol cars far outweighs the minimal amount of money spent on gas. It may be a "perk" for the deputies to be assigned a car and allowed to drive it a short distance home but we the taxpayers are by far the real winners in this situation.

President Bush was

President Bush was disrespected each and every day by many - heck, he even had shooes thrown at him while speaking and many Democrats (white and black) said he had it coming or laughed it off. Play the race card all you want but this isn't about race at all. President Obama would not have been elected had the white voters not supported him as they did. Furthermore, those who are now speaking negatively are not talking directly about Obama but about his policies which are deplorable. Those who disagree with the direction this administration is trying to take us (which is now the majority of Americans) dislike the policies and talk negatively about Pelosi, Reid, Frank and Obama so it isn't black or white, male or female but about outrageous spending and enabling policies and the arrogance from each of them by trying to pass legislation which the public clearly does not want. Take your race crap elsewhere and stop whining because most people could care less what color Obama is just as they could care less about Bush - they dislike his policies, period.

There are many minor-league athletes who love their sports, do the best they can, and are not talented enough or qualified enough to make it in the majors. Think of President Obama (MHDIM) like that, it might help.

We can certainly narrow the

We can certainly narrow the field for "school superintendent". In Dysfunction Junction, she or he will have to be an African American. Tit for Tat. There certainly should be someone in the ARC schools system with the "reputation, seniority and skills" to do the job. Hire local people.

The cost/effect of "every

The cost/effect of "every policeman in ARC" having their own "personal cruiser" reminds me of the "Sheriff's Logic". "You can make statistics/numbers mean anything you want". My mom's apartment complex had a ARC cruiser parked not 100 ft from her car, it seemed all of the time, and her care window walk broken out and the car stolen. All citizens should ride around the county and count the "cruisers" on patrol at any one time. Are these "cruisers" four wheel drive? Fleet management/maintenance would be the greatest issue for Dysfunction Junction. There is something "amiss" with this logic and I'll bet it has to do with MONEY. Who purchases "a fleet" and who "sells the fleet"?

I do not care what race the President is. His race has nothing to do with it. He has no common sense, he will continue to do stupid things regardless of what race he may be. If I remember correctly he is of mixed race anyway.

You were making good sense till you called for a convict to be your hero.

Rant 2&3: Name three local candidates. Didn't think so. Same to you.

......really cared about the local economy and budget.
AsitIs covered this quite nicely.

....... the rights, not some government entity.
The right to bear arms should be revoked. Too many damn tattoos.

.....how much they like gangs.
Sorry, treating convicts as they deserve isn't allowed by the bleeding hearts and ACLU.

...accident waiting to happen.
With all due respect, Augusta is a crash waiting to happen.

... pretty good job.
Amazing: yet another King Barry supporter who claims the race card and fails to give any example of a policy/decision which justifies "doing a pretty good job". The only folks still accusing people of racial bias against Barry are black supremacists. Period.

I value my privacy, so I'll keep my anonymity. That okay with you? Besides, I can't find a Mr or Mrs Texred in the entire USA... are you anonymous too???

I always get a kick out of folks making posts like this, because if those folks weren't here everyday, they wouldn't be able to make general observations such as this.

Let's meet some of the people

Let's meet some of the people disrespecting Obama (MHDTE) :

Lloyd Marcus' conservatism started when he was 9.

His family had just moved out of the "ghetto" to a brand-new high rise in Baltimore -- within months, he said, the "dream come true" turned into a nightmare, as the building of welfare-collecting black residents became a den of crime.

His father moved the family out as soon as he got a job with the city fire department, but "my cousins never escaped," Marcus said. He cried as he told the story.

Marcus, a black conservative who is now involved in the growing tea party movement, attributes the problems of his childhood neighborhood, his extended family and the black community in general to a "cradle-to-grave government dependency" that in the case of his cousins enabled an idle life of crime and drug abuse.

To Marcus, President Obama's policies perpetuate that dependency. That's why, he says, it baffles him and other black conservatives when the tea party movement is dismissed as somehow anti-black, as a rowdy bunch of ignorant, white protesters who have it in for the nation's first black president.
"This is the nicest angry mob I've ever seen," Marcus said.

Marcus is one of a number of black conservatives who have joined up with, and helped lead, the conservative tea party movement since its inception. Though the movement has attracted criticism for its supposed lack of diversity -- MSNBC host Chris Matthews recently called the groups "monochromatic" and "all white" -- those minority activists who are involved say the movement has little to do with race, and that it is attracting a more diverse crowd every day.

Marcus must hate black people according to the ranter above.

Just so people don't think

Just so people don't think Marcus is a one man show:

William Owens, a black author and publisher who with his wife traveled on the Tea Party Express tours with Marcus and has spoken at just about every stop along the way, also came out strongly against Obama in 2008. He published the book, "Obama: Why Black America Should Have Doubts," before the election, in an attempt to address what he called a "misguided passion" toward the former Illinois senator in black America.

When the tea party movement started, he said he found a way to build on what he was already doing, outside the Republican Party system which he calls out of touch. He first spoke at a rally in Las Vegas on tax day last April.

"It was just a natural fit," Owens said.

He said the rallies are still "mostly white," but that more blacks are getting involved. He took particular umbrage at Matthews' comment, blasting out a press release that criticized the MSNBC host for "pushing conservative black Americans to the back of the media bus."

Owens now publishes a journal documenting the tea party cross-country tours. The Multi-Cultural Conservative Coalition is also sponsoring the next leg of the Tea Party Express.

Note: Not one tom was mentioned.

The school superintendent

The school superintendent should be replaced by a local person. I don't care what color Obama is, he scares me with his liberal agenda and inability to run our government. Law enforcement should be allowed to take their patrol car home, it is somewhat of a deterrent. Money for Athens MCG should be spent in Augusta to save the programs planned to be dropped.
