Rants & Raves

If the mayor wants the city to approve his plans to build a baseball stadium downtown, first he needs to do something about cleaning up the mess that is downtown. Security cameras along Broad Street and the surrounding areas would be a great start.

Before any decisions are made regarding Dr. Dana Bedden's position as superintendent, more information is needed on our local schools. I suggest that each board member choose a school and a grade level and be a substitute there for one day. Then they can all meet behind closed doors and compare their days, their observations, their concerns, their disappointments, and their revelations. No need for expensive audits or consults. Just let the esteemed board members be in a class and run that class for the day. They will learn all there is to know about our schools.

Am I the only one that received two letters from the U.S. Department of Commerce informing me about the 2010 Census form coming? Same letter with same date, and some of you think the U.S. government can run a new health care program. It plundered Medicare, underfunded Medicaid and now wants us to believe it will do better.

This rant is for the Hephzibah Middle School student I witnessed verbally attacking a teacher. Shame on you for using the language you did. I heard her ask you to please sit down and be quiet and you proceeded to approach her and curse her out. Your parents must be really proud of the kind of young lady they raised.

I only see reports about the mold at the Law Enforcement Center. What about the Transit Department? When it rains it leaks so bad that mold is growing all over the walls and ceiling. There are offices with so many buckets to catch the water that you can't walk past them. When will something be done?

Has anybody noticed lately that politicians throw around the word "million" (dollars) as though it means a stick of gum?

All of the hysteria over the Gay Pride parade is ridiculous. They've been having these in Atlanta and Savannah for years with no problems. This parade will no more turn you gay than the St. Patrick's Day parade will turn you Irish. Get into the 21st century, Augusta!

This is a Rant. I've been hearing that the city was going to widen Windsor Spring Road from Tobacco Road and Highway 88 for years now. It is just putting patches on the road that either don't stay or, if they do, they are higher than the road and make it unsafe to drive on. Why not just repave the road and get it over?

A huge rave for Lori Davis, Butch Palmer, Joe Bowles and all of the donors who helped bring chronic nuisance property expert John Campbell to Augusta. It looks like all of the hard work has paid off and Augusta's neighborhoods are finally going to get cleaned up.

Ranter #1: How have you

Ranter #1: How have you volunteered to assist? DO you donate to a worthy cause? How about you start a fundraiser to have camera costs covered and make it easier for the city to install security cameras...If ya ain't part of the solution, you're part of the problem.
Ranter #2: Moot point about Bedden...he's likely gone. Your suggestion that all persons involved in funding and managing education locally should be required to substitute on a regular basis to enlighten them about what our schools actually do and their conditions, employees, food service, etc...would be an eye-opener.
Ranter #3: It's the gov't stupid. They always require triplicate redundancies...it's their version of CYA.
Ranter #4: Maybe you should be a substitute or aide, and help those teachers w unruly kids. What would you have done to quiet the disruptive female student? When teacher's are forced by legal constraints to accept abuse from the student population there is little they can do without jeopardizing their jobs. Too much 'sparing the rod and spoiling the child'.
Ranter #5: Most city structures are not built well, poorly maintained, and mispent funds often paid to disreputable companies who do shoddy repairs...this is the track record over many yrs...doesn't seem to be an answer...politics remains the same.

Ranter #6: As I said,

Ranter #6: As I said, politics remains the same..it's not their money, so what, me worry?
Ranter #7: I'll say it one more time. If you wanna be gay, it's not okay. God hates the sin of sexual perversion, this un-natural level of self-degradation is obvious except to the deceived and the complacent.
Ranter #8: Professional political procrastination, that's why.
Ranter #9: If the wrecks are torn down and those worthy of restoring are spruced up, some of the old neighborhoods will have the opportunity to shine. I know, I work there remodeling many of them. Maybe self-respect is beginning to take hold once more.
Good Morning Augusta...it's 420 somewhere.

to the 4th rant, there are a lot of students out there that do the same thing, im sure their parents are very proud of them since when they are called to school, they show up and blame everything on the teacher. i really wonder what is happened to parents when students do this type of thing all the time, when i went to school, we never would have even considered doing something like that.

Ranter #6 one reason is its not their money and another reason is that on television lots of the announcers and opinion makers throw around made up words like a gazzzillion...and maximillion and 47quantumillion.. totally made up to emphasize an opinion that they are carrying around from show to show.

Ranter # 4, that happens

Ranter # 4, that happens every day at most schools. When parents are called, not much, if anything, changes about the student's behavior. When I wrote a student up on a discipline referral at Grovetown High School for similar verbal statements, all the punishment he got was one day of lunch detention. What a joke.

A Rant for this lunatic!

A Rant for this lunatic! -

CHICAGO -- Nation of Islam Minister Louis Farrakhan, boasting his divine stature, on Sunday predicted trouble ahead for President Barack Obama and urged him to do more to improve the lives of blacks and the downtrodden.

The 76-year-old leader said the "white right" was conspiring to make Obama a one-term president, and pointed to his stalled efforts to introduce health care legislation as proof. He said those opponents and lobbyists were trapping him into a future war with Iran that could lead to mass destruction.

"The word 'prophet' is too cheap a word. I am a light in the midst of darkness," Farrakhan said at the annual convention of the movement that embraces black nationalism. "It ain't ego, it's my love for you."

On the Hephz Middle issue, a

On the Hephz Middle issue, a lot of those disrespectful kids have disrespectful parents too. When parents don't communicate effectively with others including their children, their children learn the behavior at home. This is too often the case these days. Imagine contacting a parent to discuss such behavior only to have the parent act worse.

95% of the "elected public

95% of the "elected public servants" in Augusta are "in way over their heads". They are "token representative". They prove this by having to get a "third party opinion" on everything they say and do. They do know squat, except to spend taxpayer money. We are supposed to see "the spending of money as a sign of their being qualified". Micro managing individual city employees is not their job, but it looks like they are Involved. Signing proclamations. Prayer Breakfast. Bankrupt business owner, felons, "just good guys", cronies, quotas for black and white, actors playing commissioners, scam artist,............. A high school debate team would appear more competent.

Yes, Zeno, God hates the SIN

Yes, Zeno, God hates the SIN of homosexuality, but not the sinner. He also hates the SINS of adultery and fornication, but that seems to be acceptable in the present society. He also hates coveting or envy for what others have been blessed with that w might wish we had. I don't see anyone getting on a soapbox fussing about those sins. I think the 'gays' just want to flaunt their life style in front of us and get a rise out of us. Let's just ignore them and don't give them the satisfaction of knowing that they irritate us.If people had let them alone instead of trying to injure or kill them, we wouldn't have the anti-hate laws that now threaten our preachers from speaking out from the pulpit telling us what the bible says about it.

re: leaky roof. Seems like there are a lot of crappy contractors around here. The popcorn ceiling in the main bathroom of our house keeps falling down. I noticed that where it is falling that it isn't primed underneath. It will have to be completely re-done. Just so any of you people having work done know, anything that is to be painted should be primed first, and no, flat paint is not the same thing.

butler I know this doesn't help but years ago we decided to install hardwood floors. Since the carpets would be trashed anyhow we had the gunk scraped off the ceilings and tossed out with the old carpet. When the job was complete the smooth ceilings and hardwood floors were well worth the effort.

dani, we actually live in a rent house, the land lady had someone come in and patch the ceiling before we moved in and I just notice what the true problem is. Anyway, I'm a journeyman(woman) painter and in my opinion you shouldn't use popcorn in high humidity areas anyway. Popcorn anywhere is outdated. I prefer an orange peel or knock down texture. I'll fix it myself when I get time, but I won't be putting popcorn up there. I just found it hard to believe that anyone with the skill to do it in the first place didn't prime it first.

Dear AC: It has been brought to my attention some people are still being harassed for "copyrighted" avatar images.

Are you aware all college logos are copyrighted?

Are you aware all pro sport team logo's are copyrighted?

Are you aware that allowing those to remain while forcibly removing others is exposure to suit?

Don't you have lawyers for this stuff or are they all busy on Billy's Bankruptcy?
