Savannah River Site's primary contractor has scheduled two additional "Lunch and Learn" seminars to offer local business owners more guidance on how to compete for American Recovery & Reinvestment Act contracts.
The luncheons offer attendees step-by-step instructions on how to navigate the sometimes complex rules that include Central Contractor Registration and obtaining a Dun & Bradstreet DUNS Number -- two factors that are key in government contracting, said Paivi Nettamo, a spokeswoman for Savannah River Nuclear Solutions.
Participants will be provided with telephone numbers and e-mail addresses for the Recovery Act procurement officials overseeing the contracts that are funding a series of major cleanup projects at SRS, funded with $1.4 billion in Recovery Act funds.
The additional Lunch & Learn seminars will be held March 18 at Newberry Hall in Aiken; and April 15 at the North Augusta Community Center in North Augusta, she said.
Similar events attracted 65 business representatives to a Barnwell meeting, and a capacity crowd of 125 participants at an Augusta event held last week.
About $273 million has been committed so far to shovel-ready projects. Recovery Act contracts have been awarded to 450 suppliers, of whom 120 are new to SRS work and represent $62 million in contracts.
Small businesses with a current business license from their local government may sign up for one of the two remaining luncheons. Seating is limited, and registration will be made on first- come, first-served basis.
