Dale Murphy, a former Atlanta Braves all-star and two-time National League Most Valuable Player, will speak at the 23rd annual Steak & Burger Dinner, the largest annual fundraising event for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Augusta.
The event is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. March 25 at Augusta State University's Christenberry Fieldhouse.
Murphy will provide a motivational speech, and guests will dine on hamburgers while club members are served steak. Dinner tickets cost $100.
The event raises funds to support the Boys & Girls Clubs of Augusta and the 3,000 youth they serve each year.
Another photo op for Deke. An another "cap". "I declare this to be Dale Murphy Day in Augusta-Richmond-Hephzibah-Blythe." Maybe Dale can "second the motion" on the "Coperhaver Municipal Stadium" while he is in town. Cal made the initial motion. Jerry did not comment. Matt said he had not been on the commission long enough, but thought the stadium should be in "Olde Towne" near his new home. The location of the "old" court house would be an excellent site. Lyman Hall and George Walton could be relocated to Westview Cemetery or Meadow Gardens.
Dale Murphy is a gentleman of deep religious conviction. He was great player for a "team owner" who was "feeding his ego" and cared little about the success of the Atlanta Braves. To bad Dale Murphy and Ted Turner were business associates. My son and I were at the game where Dale crashed into the outfield wall to catch a fly ball. A seam in the "plexiglass fence" installed to help Hank Aaron hit home runs collapsed and pinched a section out of Dale's palm. Dale made the catch. Blood and all. Thanks for great moments Dale. Thanks for you ethical conduct on and off the field. Ther are some athletes worthy of "role model".
