Encore snowfall possible in Augusta on Monday

  • Follow Metro

Friday's snowfall in Augusta just might have an encore.

Accuweather.com's Web site says there should be occasional rain and drizzle Sunday night, and Monday will be "chilly" with "a chance for a rain or snow shower in the morning, chance of a little rain in the afternoon."

"There might be some snow involved, but it's going to be very borderline snow and rain, and there won't be as much precipitation," said Tom Kines, a senior meteorologist for accuweather.com.

Kines said Friday that there shouldn't be any snow accumulation on Monday morning. He said it will mostly just be a pretty sight to see a little snow fall, "which would normally be exciting if it weren't for this (Friday's snowstorm)."

The Weather Channel's Web site also is calling for a 30 percent chance of rain/snow showers on Monday.

The National Weather Service's Web site forecast for Augusta on Sunday night says there's "a chance of rain before 1 a.m., then a chance of rain and snow. ... Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a 10th of an inch possible."

For Monday, which is Presidents Day, the weather service predicts "a chance of rain and snow before 9 a.m., then a chance of rain between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m."

Dan Miller, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, said there likely will be a mix of snow and rain, but "it does not favor significant snow for (Augusta). ... We just want to let people know that the event on Monday is a totally different situation (from Friday's)," he said, noting that it shouldn't be nearly as significant because the system isn't tracking out of the Gulf of Mexico.

Still, Miller was quick to note, "the models can change."
