Man faces 5 charges in January shooting

Police have arrested and charged a man in connection with a Jan. 24 shooting involving four men, three of whom were later charged with murder in another shooting.

Larry Tarver Jr., 24, of the 3800 block of Dorset Street, is charged with four counts of aggravated assault and one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, according to Richmond County jail records.

A Richmond County sheriff's report says the shooting occurred about 1 a.m. Jan. 24, about 30 minutes before the fatal shooting of 22-year-old Sergio Campbell at McDonald's at 2624 Deans Bridge Road.

Four men were in a gray Toyota Rav4 at John C. Calhoun Expressway and Crawford Avenue when a man fired at them from a Ford Windstar van.

Three of the men in the Toyota, Sean Christopher Bryant, Harry Lee Jones and Kevin Antwan Williams, face murder charges in Campbell's death. The fourth man, Marques Antonio Robinson, was charged with making false statements in a government matter in the Campbell case.

Robber gets motel's cash, but no one hurt

A man robbed Royal Inn on Jefferson Davis Highway in Clearwater at gunpoint Saturday night.

According to an Aiken County dispatcher, a man walked into the motel's office and demanded money about 6:45 p.m. No one was injured.

Sheriff's deputies used bloodhounds to search for the robber but were unable to find him.

Police describe man who robbed Pizza Hut

Authorities are looking for a man who robbed a Pizza Hut at gunpoint Saturday morning.

According to a Richmond County sheriff's report, a man with a handkerchief over his face walked into the restaurant at 2804 Wrightsboro Road about 11:20 a.m. He was carrying two pistols and told an employee to open a safe.

The man stole cash from the safe and a cash register and forced employees to the rear of the store before he fled.

The robber was described as black, about 25 years old, about 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing about 130 pounds. He was wearing a military camouflage jacket and blue jeans.

Computer taken from Persian rug business

A laptop computer was stolen from a Persian rug business during the weekend.

A Richmond County sheriff's report says a break-in occurred between 6 p.m. Friday and 7 a.m. Saturday at Heriz at 2834 Washington Road.

A deputy responded to an alarm and found the front glass door broken. The business's owner said a Toshiba Satellite laptop worth $1,000 had been taken.

Kick, Punt and Throw Down event Saturday

The inaugural Kick, Punt and Throw Down Cancer event will be held Saturday at Westside High School, 1002 Patriots Way.

Registration is at 10:30 a.m., and the event starts at 11:30. The rain date is Feb. 20.

The event is for middle and high school students, who should bring student ID. Schools or organizations with participating students should call in advance. Registration is free, but participating students and organizations are encouraged to raise donations.

Admission for spectators is free. Refreshments will be available to buy. All proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society's 2010 Relay for Life of Augusta.
