Rants and raves

Comments from our readers:

PLEASE DON'T VILIFY all city department heads for having "golden parachute" severance packages. Who would turn down such a package when serving at the pleasure of that crew downtown? The few bad apples are results of poor hiring practices. It is not even clear who accepted an incomplete resume without question. Not only does one hand not know what the other is doing, but the very fingers and toes do not appear to know what the others are doing.

HOW DOES ONE KNOW when a state's budget -- in this case Georgia's -- is way too fat? When the proposed budget is 416 pages long. Anything from government with so many pages merely tells us there is tons of waste and corruption hidden inside. Gov. Perdue says, "We've acted as prudently as we can, as wisely as we can." Since we all know that state government contains tons of useless, politically correct and destructive agencies and programs, how can he have the gall to claim prudence or wisdom?

HOW SAD THAT Rep. Patrick Kennedy, making a speech at an event that was supposed to honor Martin Luther King Jr., seemed to spend a lot of time talking about himself and his family. "I" this and "me" and "his (Kennedy's) family," and "myself," "his (Kennedy's) time as a politician."

I'M SORRY, maybe it's just me, but I think the paintings on the waterworks wall look tacky. I liked the plain brick better. Please return it back.

VIDEO SURVEILLANCE cameras need to be installed throughout the Harrisburg neighborhood to stave off criminal activity before the Kroc center opens and gets a bad reputation for being in the heart of a crime zone.

A RANT TO THE Columbia County maintenance office. The water feature at the county library playground malfunctioned, likely due to the freeze, with water shooting into the sky for three days before it was serviced.

ROBERT GIBBS, the White House press secretary, says the folks in Massachusetts supported Scott Brown (the Republican) because they are frustrated over the actions of the Bush administration. I guess it will be Bush's fault when the Republicans regain control of both houses of Congress in 2010 and when they regain the White House in 2012.

I WOULD LIKE to give a big rave to the blood bank staff at Doctors Hospital. They work in very stressful situations but always seem to be on top of every task thrown their way.

SYLVIA COOPER'S Sunday column discusses the "dilemma" people with Georgia-permitted guns face when going into North Augusta. Lock the weapon in your glove compartment or trunk before you cross the bridge. Presto: You're legal.

watching the news is a riot.

watching the news is a riot. Bob Stacey (D) pennsylvania and Barrack "O" both sounded more conservative than Sarah Palin. So tuesday was a referendum on Bushs eight years in office ? If that's the case what happened to the support for Health Care ? I guess last tuesday really was the 2nd "Boston TEA PARTY"? Blue dogs are now yellow dogs and cap and trade is dead. Robert Gibbs should be hired as Conans replacement because he is the biggest joke on tv now ! Harry and Nancy don't sound quite so arrogant and I guess now someone is listening to the people . Dems falling faster than Acorns ........... Todays approval rates for Mr. O are[minus] -16

Rep Patrick Kennedy was just following Pres O's template. You know, the one that worked so well on both trips to Copenhagen. Hey, if they put cameras in Harrisburg it will just confirm that the Kroc Center is in a high crime area of town! It's easier to pretend this way. w00t!

Obviously, based solely on

Obviously, based solely on the volume of comments about the Water Works murals, they are being noticed. I think that was part of the intent. I never heard anybody comment on anything but the smell of the place prior to this. Paint the rest of it!

7th St between Telfair St and

7th St between Telfair St and Fenwick St will be closed the rest of today and tomorrow just fyi.

Maybe the AC can get their crack news team on it and find out the reason why. I did not

see any mention of this nugget in the online edition this morning. I apologize for wasting

this space and readers' time if it was already reported and I overlooked it.

China is building 59

China is building 59 reservoirs to capture all the meltwater from their melting glaciers. Glaciers on the Tibetan plateau have lost 989 million cubic metres in the past 40 years. I'd say that they are definitely ahead of the pack when it comes to adaptation.

Bubblesup, I've been waiting

Bubblesup, I've been waiting for you to stumble into this myth. The UN just admitted they published a false report on the melting rate of the Himalayan glaciers. You are so predictable I ought to pay you for being the "straight man" in a comedy routine. Here is the URL in yet another attempt to overcome your extreme ignorance. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/environment/article6994774.ece

Find a more effective method

Find a more effective method for debate, Mcroaked. Personal attacks are useless and reflect poorly on you. The error in the report was regrettable, however, you would have to be a stooge not to recognize that the earth's temperature is warming. Jan 2000 to Dec 2009 is the warmest decade on record.

There are multiple articles

There are multiple articles in today's AC that concern water. Your comments might find a more sympathetic audience there. Western China is a desert in case you were not aware, it makes sense and having unlimited land and $2/day labor available makes it much more practical. In terms of insults, your never-ending string of factually inaccurate commentary on this nonsense is more insulting and indicative of your lack of cognitive abilities than anything I could ever come up with. Have a blissful day!

That record being since 1850

That record being since 1850 which, when you consider the age of the planet, is hardly a blip on the radar screen .

rant#2 the state budget would

rant#2 the state budget would be a whole lot smaller if the state 1) got out of the public housing business, 2) reduced its welfare roles to include only the TRULY elderly, disabled and needy...not lysterine or shiequa and their 4-5 kids from different baby's daddies..make all single parent who are abled-bodied find their baby's daddies and have them start supporting their kids instead of the taxpayers

That's interesting, NASA are

That's interesting, NASA are also the ones reporting the shrinking of the Martian polar caps where the population uses 100% solar energy and no fossil fuels or cans of hair spray and shaving cream. I don't think you quite understand that most no longer take anything you, or the other warmers, say seriously. I suggest you find a greener blog for your "interactive stimulus". There is no sense attempting to have a "debate" when the facts are all on one side. It's like getting into a urinary Olympiad with a skunk, he only knows one thing and he is good at it.

Bubbles, Satellite data from

Bubbles, Satellite data from NASA shows no increase in average global temperature since 1998, a year when El Niño caused a worldwide spike having nothing to do with carbon dioxide. Alarmists contend this is just a pause in a continuous rise in temperatures and that it will begin to increase again. Ironically that is the same argument that the warming skeptics have been using for years. There was warming for the first 40 years of the 20th century until the very time CO2 began to climb significantly and then came cooling, which sparked concerns in the '70s about a looming Ice Age. Then rising temperatures resumed until 1998 and now we're back on a cooling trend....

Beg to differ obx. NASA

Beg to differ obx. NASA reports that "Although 2008 was the coolest year of the decade because of a strong La Nina that cooled the tropical Pacific Ocean, 2009 saw a return to a near-record global temperatures as the La Nina diminished, according to the new analysis by NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) in New York."

Bubbles before you fire off

Bubbles before you fire off about the past decade being the warmest on record..."There’s always interest in the annual temperature numbers and a given year’s ranking, but the ranking often misses the point,” said James Hansen, GISS director. “There’s substantial year-to-year variability of global temperature caused by the tropical El Nino-La Nina cycle. When we average temperature over five or ten years to minimize that variability, we find global warming is at the forefront just as a "second" ice age will be at the forefront when temperatures "average" lower than normal...

Bubbles, the Earths pattern

Bubbles, the Earths pattern due to a change in the oceanic flow, we will now see the opposite of the past decade. Climatic fluctuations over the past several hundred years suggest 30 year climatic cycles of global warming and cooling, on a general rising trend from the Little Ice Age. In 2008, NASA satellite imagery confirmed that the Pacific Ocean had switched from the warm mode it had been in since 1977 to its cool mode, similar to that of the 1945-1977 global cooling period. The shift strongly suggests that the next several decades will be cooler, not warmer as predicted by the IPCC....

Hey croaked, I just read your

Hey croaked, I just read your post about the mom who made her 12 year old son kill the hamster. And YOUR comment was 'get over it, it was just a rodent'. You make me sick. The war musta really screwed your head up BAD. What about the son croaked? What about HIM? You are a sad excuse for a human being. You are evil. And I don't care if I get banned. There is no telling what you have taught those poor kids of yours. I'm appalled. Boy get on your knees and pray to God. NOW! There ain't no place for you in heaven.
