Rants and raves

Comments from our readers:

UNEMPLOYMENT VS. tourism: Did you know that the average casino employs between 900 and 1,200 people? That's right. Tourism would benefit from this venue. How do I know? Mississippi has 33 of them, and one of the lowest unemployment rates in the nation.

THIS IS ABOUT the theft of money from the Richmond County Tax Office. It looks like somebody sure benefited from Richmond County taxes; it just wasn't the citizens of Richmond County.

A HUGE, HUGE RAVE for senatorial candidate Scott Brown in Massachusetts. His quick wit and sound intellect are sorely needed to bring a degree of balance back to the Senate. Just an amazing, historic event.

MY RANT IS ABOUT the banks in our area. They have money for advertising. They are calling you all the time, like telemarketers, trying to get more business. But when you go there during your lunch hour, you have to wait in line for 15 to 20 minutes because they are too cheap to hire enough help.

WHY DO WE need politicians? They don't do what they say they are going to do once they're voted into office. They sure don't work for the amount of money they receive. In my opinion, as a group -- no matter on what level -- they are the biggest waste of the taxpayers' money that there has ever been.

NOTE! CHAPTER 4 of the DMVS manual clearly indicates the need to use turn signals and how to properly make right and left turns.

I THINK IT'S so ironic that all these American-born kids are all of sudden running to join up with terrorists, after 17 or 18 years of living with the freedom to say and do and eat what they want. Now they want to denounce it?

THIS IS A RANT about the new super speeder law. Why do they tell us its not about the money? Anyone who believes that is just what they think we are -- stupid.

RANT FOR LAW enforcement traffic division: Why is time wasted passing laws, posting speed limits and making idle threats to supposedly slow down speeders? Travel Bobby Jones, I-20 or River Watch. If you drive the speed limit, you get cursed at, flipped off or honked at. Enforce the speed limits.

THIS IS A RANT. I wish George Bush would quit making it rain and causing all the potholes on Windsor Spring Road.

I HAVE ONLY LIVED in Augusta for a year, and I can tell you that with what little this city has to offer downtown -- besides a majority of empty buildings and strip clubs -- if they put meters in, I will never set foot down there to spend my money. I'd rather drive to Aiken. It has a lot more to offer and no parking meters.

To the ranter about the

To the ranter about the super-speeder fines...YES, it IS about money! If people are going to speed at those excessive rates, then why not sock them where it might mean something to them..in the wallet? And, from what I understand, all that extra money is to go to Georgia trauma centers, so when knuckle-heads that drive that fast cause an accident, we, the taxpayers aren't saddled with paying the TOTAL bill. At least the taxpayers will get alittle relief, thanks to the lead-foots! The bottom line? Just slow down and you won't have to worry about it.

Go live in Mississippi for

Go live in Mississippi for awhile and you'll see that the casinos bring nothing but heartache. Gambling provides low paying jobs, increased prostitution, and an onslaught of gambling by citizens that destroys marriages and families and cleans out bank accounts.

I guess the ones that are

I guess the ones that are doing all the ranting about the super-speeder fines are the ones that insist on speeding and putting themselves and everyone around them in danger. Apparently they just can't resist riding in guided missiles that become unguided missiles sometimes and injure or kill innocent people. Someone who obeys the law, wouldn't be concerned about the super-fines.

I agree with Bubblesup.

I agree with Bubblesup. Msgret92, it is true those things are caused by people and the decisions they make, but that is no excuse to make it easy and enable those people to make bad decisions. If the temptations aren't out there for the grabbing, weak people are less likely to succumb to them.

if people would start

if people would start accepting personal responsibility for the bad decisions they make (and teach their children to do the same thing) this world would be a much better place, and there would be a lot less stupid laws and law suits, and more students graduating.

The "Basket League for White
Unpublished

The "Basket League for White Americans that target Augusta Georgia" must have done its homework because their approach to "the fix is in" would be a match made in U know where. And if, as reported they "target" the local area, what do they know that's is being hidden? ....nothing new here.

I like casinos but I like casinos in other locations. They allow me to take a trip occassionally out of Augusta, have a little fun (I only take what I'm willing to lose) and come home.

Let's eliminate all things

Let's eliminate all things that tempt people to do wrong! But wait, who makes that decision? Using that logic we have to get rid of all the fast food joints and the jobs they provide too. Accepting personal responsibility is a powerful feeling.

mad, the government makes

mad, the government makes that decision, thus the reason that we have obama "its not your fault, vote for me and i will make the big companies pay for allowing you to make your own decision". accepting personal responsibility goes a long way towards having pride, something that waaaaaaaay to many people these days know nothing about

I wonder what the crime rate is in Miss. ? It's not like there isn't gambling going on in Augusta already. The only difference is in Miss, they are able to get a cut to the government. Get your head out of the sand.

A rant to the DOT, Richmond

A rant to the DOT, Richmond County, or the city: When are you going to finish whatever it is you are doing on the far right lane heading east on Walton Way? There is a metal cover in the road right before you get to Richmond Academy. Its been there for 3 or 4 weeks now! My car has taken a beating because of this thing! Fix it!

1) Just visiting and leaving

1) Just visiting and leaving Augusta without being a crime victim is winning the lotto. 2) The perp @ the Tax Office was merely streamlining the "share the wealth" process. Get used to it. 3) What can Brown do for you? 4) Banks are smart: spend money to get people in the door. Once they're in, save the money on tellers. 5) We need politicians because prostitution is illegal. 6) You assume the same idiots that cannot drive can actually read. 7) Not ironic at all: few kids appreciate what they have @ age 18 because most of them haven't worked for a damn thing in their lives yet. 8) Of course it's about the money. Don't violate the SS law, don't worry bout it. 9) RCSO enforces speed limit, people'll complain because they "have better things to do". Have you thanked a Police Officer today? 10) George W. Bush is GOD, he causes everything. He says he's "motivationalistic." 11) If a parking meter keeps anyone from spending money downtown, the merchants there say "thank you for keeping your cheap donkey home."

Avet, you couldn't be more

Avet, you couldn't be more wrong about how merchants downtown feel. 1) Merchants do not benefit from monies from meters 2) Anything that keeps your donkey from downtown only hurts those merchants 3) Why do we use hals of the parentesis after our numbers 4) Merchants downtown spend tons of money attracting folks to the downtown are 5) The concern is not a parking meter, it's lots of parking meters
