Rants and raves

Comments from our readers:

PARKING METERS WILL SEPARATE the riffraff from the decent, paying customers. Where does this "poor me" attitude in Augusta come from? I am ready to go forward with a first-class act for all of downtown Augusta. Money well spent always makes things better. Install those meters now!

WOULD ALL THE PEOPLE on Holiday Drive in Martinez please take down your Christmas decorations and all your Santa Clauses and reindeers?

I'D LIKE TO COMMENT on the wall up on Highland Avenue at the waterworks. I think the art up there now is lovely. I like the turtle. I don't think they should overdo it, though. They have made the area look so nice with the landscaping and the plaster, and of course the new water building and the little garden are lovely. I hope they'll think a little bit harder before they use all the walls.

IF THE COUNTY COMMISSION gives any more money away in severance packages or surveys, I wish they'd give it to the taxpayers.

CHIQUITA JOHNSON WAS FIRED from her last job and left sections about past positions and why she left them blank on her application, and yet someone hired her? Perhaps it would be a good idea if those responsible for this egregious oversight had to pay for her $93,000 severance package.

I JUST READ THE ARTICLE regarding Warren County School System losing its accreditation. I feel strongly that every board member and the superintendent should have charges brought against them. What they've done to those students is surely criminal. Their actions illustrate a lack of regard for the education and well-being of those children. Now these children may not have opportunities afforded to other children in the state of Georgia.

TO THE PERSON RANTING that everyone knows you don't have to go to church to go to heaven: You will have a rude awakening come Judgment Day.

TO THE PERSON WHO THINKS Obama has made smart decisions against terrorism: Get a clue! Bush did some dumb things, but Obama has done more to encourage terrorism than he will ever do against it. He allows CIA agents to be threatened and tried for crimes for doing their jobs; he appoints a CIA chief without any experience (much like himself); he appoints a Homeland Security chief without any experience; he rolled back many Bush initiatives to detect terror activities and communications. Bush wasn't a hero, but he didn't cause 9/11 either. Look to Clinton for that!

IF I HAD TO venture a guess from what I've heard of the health care reform legislation, I'd say a great deal of it was written by lobbyists and credited to lawmakers. They don't care if it works, as long as it gets passed.

Ranter #1 - Wow! That's a justification for installing downtown parking meters that I hadn't even thought of. I suppose that's because the idea is so stupid on so many levels.

I'd like to know why the government run and taxpayer funded website http://www.healthreform.gov/ does not allow you to voice your dissent if you disagree but only allows a showing of support. Your federal Obama government hard at work forming public opinion instead of soliciting the public's true opinion.

If this healthcare reform is

If this healthcare reform is so good then put it in a federal referendum in November for the people to decide. That wouldn't work though because the democrat party of "git r done" doesn't care if the people want it done or not. All they care about is what they want because they don't believe that the American public is smart enough to make their own decisions. THAT'S IT! I finally figured out the democratic partys platform. it's "Vote for me because you are too stupid to run your own lives. We'll do it for you."

The only thing parking meters

The only thing parking meters will encourage is more theft...The "riff raff" will find a very easy way of getting the money we spend to park, out. If people can steal from ATM machines , guarantee you they will steal the meters.

1) Don't park, don't pay.

1) Don't park, don't pay. Don't you love freedom of choice? 2) Geez, someone isn't controlling are they? 3) Mr. Copenhaver, tear down this wall! 4 & 5) At least Chiquita won't be going on the Dole. (Fruit humor). 6) Prosecute folks for not doing their jobs? Can we start with both Houses of Convicts? 7) What human deems know the mind of God? 8) It's far easier to list what Obama has accomplished than to list his failures. Save a tree, all praise Obama! 9) There is NO health care reform legislation.

It isn't even necessarily

It isn't even necessarily about the thugs stealing money from the parking meters, they will destroy them just for fun. These officials need to get their head out of the sand. Augusta is a crime ridden city. That is what needs to be addressed. A city this size shouldn't have this much crime. We can't wait to leave this place.

Ranter #7: "For all have

Ranter #7: "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God." - Romans 3:23 "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." - Romans 6:23 "But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." - Romans 5:8 "that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." - Romans 10:9 "for everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." - Romans 10:13 "Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ." - Romans 5:1 "Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus." - Romans 8:1 "For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." - Romans 8:38-39.... Nowhere in there does it say, don't go to church, don't go to heaven. Believe, accept Christ, and you will gain entry to the gates of glory forever.

To What? - I'm fairly certain if they brought back pay toilets, there would be a whole lot more of downtown to clean up. I realize your sarcasm there though.

Parking meters installed

Parking meters installed downtown is only" one "source of revenue. Why not write tickets for those parking in the the "no parking" areas in our shopping centers? Especially in Richmond County. I can see lots of $$$(dollar signs), already. Come on Commissioners, I challenge you to collect these potential funds. The funds generated can pay for all those parking meters!!!!

77777 (and justinmiller87):

77777 (and justinmiller87): But God *did* proclaim it. Quote the 8 pieces of the 'Roman Road' all you want, but there's a few hundred more pages of the Bible that you're not recognizing in that. Yes, those are the things you need to do to find salvation, but the rest of the Bible isn't merely a suggestion. It's a guideline for Christian living. Part of which says that, as a Christian, one should not give up meeting with fellow Christians for encouragement and fellowship. (Hebrews 10:25) Granted, that doesn't necessarily mean you must go to "church" as we know it today. The church as the physical entity we know it as today didn't exist when the Bible was written. Clearly this doesn't say it's cool to sit on your 'blessed assurance' at home watching Joel Osteen tell you how God will make you rich and ignore the rest of the world. You've still go to have the common fellowship and association with other believers. That can be church, Bible studies or any other number of gatherings in the same vein. But the "I worship at home watching church services on TV" excuse doesn't cut it Biblically. If you feel like you don't agree with that part of the Bible or others then I'd re-evaluate...
