Rants and Raves

Comments from our readers:

LOOKS LIKE some Georgia politicians want to bring gun rights more in line with what the Founders wrote in the Constitution. The Constitution says government has no right to stop carrying except for those who have forfeited their rights, e.g., convicted felons. Remember Kennesaw, Ga., and its drop in crime after they voted in a local law to require each house to have a gun?

CAN ANYONE explain why gas prices go up 8 to 12 cents and come down 2 to 5 cents? Where is the logic in this, and why do gas prices go up in a couple of days and come down in a couple of weeks?

OBAMA SAYS heads will roll over security failures that allowed a would-be bomber on a plane. Obama wants to fire everybody but the guilty party, himself. It's like a fumble-fisted quarterback wanting to fire the line.

WHAT GIVES some parents the right to play bartender to underage drinkers? Do they not understand that they are committing a crime? Trying to justify their actions by boasting about how they are introducing the children to the correct way to socialize. No. They are, however, teaching them how to evade the law.

THE MAYOR'S economic forecast includes "much to look forward to." Then he lists various multimillion dollar projects that Augusta can't afford and doesn't need.

RANTER RANTS AGAINST employers who didn't give year-end bonuses. Clearly, the ranter doesn't realize that a bonus is extra pay for an extra good job by the worker. Besides, if this guy is so upset, there's an easy solution. Quit that job he doesn't like and either go find a different job, or better, start his own business, where he can be the boss and learn how the world really operates.

RANT TO THE CHRONICLE for not printing my rant about the parents who throw their cigarette butts all over Brookfield Park. Even in the play areas -- it's covered with them. You are a bunch of nasty inconsiderate people and bad examples for your kids.

THE NEW MURALS on the water department building on Highland Avenue do not look as attractive as the gang-painted graffiti and art on the warehouses that I have seen on a MARTA route in Atlanta. I have to pass these ugly paintings on Highland Avenue twice a day -- going to and returning from work.

Serve my child alcohol at an

Serve my child alcohol at an underage party trying to be a "hip" parent and plan on being arrested. Parents need to learn how to be parents again and stop trying to be their childs best friend, friend to their childrens friends, etc. Grow up and do your job of parenting, teaching responsibility and acountibility for your actions, etc. And, saying "well this was better than letting them go out somewhere and drink and drive, if that is how you wish to teach your child, then so be it even if you are wrong but you don't speak for other parents so don't involve others children. Not only can you be arrested but sued as well and although I don't belive in law suits parents like that need a major wake up call.

For our Leaders: "You cannot

For our Leaders: "You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is about the end of any nation. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it." - Thomas Jefferson

U.S. House & Senate have

U.S. House & Senate have voted themselves $4,700 and $5,300 raises. > 1. They voted to not give you a S.S. Cost of living raise in 2010 > and 2011. > 2. Your Medicaid premiums will go up $285.60 for the 2-years and > you will not get the 3% COLA: $660/yr. Your total 2-yr loss and cost > is > -$1,600 or -$3,200 for husband and wife. > 3. Over 2-yrs they each get $10,000 > 4. Do you feel BETRAYED? > 5. Will they have your cost of drugs - doctor fees - local taxes > - food, etc., increase? > NO WAY . They have a raise and better benefits. Why care about you? > You never did anything about it in the past. You obviously are too > stupid or don't care. > 6. While I would never serve

While I would never serve alcohol to someone else's child, if I choose to let my child / older teen have a glass of wine at Christmas dinner or at special functions - I personally don't feel it is anyone else's business. Just like when we travel to other countries, with a much lower or no alcohol limit - if I choose to let him have a small drink there too, with my supervision - again I don't think it's anyone else's business. Would I serve someone else's child - heck no! Point being, alcohol isn't the devil - doing it or any number of things, including some over the counter medicines which believe me a lot of kids today do abuse - is the bigger issue.

1) Have gun, will shop in

1) Have gun, will shop in Richmond County. 2) Gas prices up when retailers have to pay more to replace stock (immediately). Gas prices fall when competition drives them down (slowly). 3) Obama says... does it matter? The man lies. 4) www.parentsofdrunkteens.com 5) Duh, a forecast looks forward. Even in backwards Augusta. 6) Wah wah wah, no bonus. Those with no job really feel sorry for you. 7) I guess the parents wish you'd butt out. 8) Love that wall. Hate that wall. That wall will be there when you die, so which is the trivial matter?

The wheels continue to fall

The wheels continue to fall off the O-train. With the 2010 election year barely under way, Senators Chris Dodd and Byron Dorgan along with Gov. Bill Ritter, all Democrats, ditch plans to run for re-election in the latest signs of trouble for President Obama's (PBUH) party.

President Obama and

President Obama and congressional Democratic leaders decided Tuesday to bypass a formal House and Senate conference to meld their health care bills, according to two congressional Democratic leadership sources. To hold a formal conference, conferees - members of the House and Senate - must be appointed by both bodies with resolutions passed by the Senate and the House. Democratic leadership aides said getting those resolutions passed could delay and even derail Democratic efforts, because Republicans would be allowed to offer amendments and hold lengthy debates on the resolutions to appoint conferees. (Editor's note: holding informal conferences is also the reason the DEM's gave C-Span in response to a request to televise the negotiations.)

Even Queen Nancy is off the

Even Queen Nancy is off the bandwagon: "House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, piqued with White House pressure to accept the Senate health reform bill, threw a rare rhetorical elbow Tuesday at President Barack Obama, questioning his commitment to his 2008 campaign promises.

A leadership aide said it was no accident.

Pelosi emerged from a meeting with her leadership team and committee chairs in the Capitol to face an aggressive throng of reporters who immediately hit her with C-SPAN’s request that she permit closed-door final talks on the bill to be televised.

A reporter reminded the San Francisco Democrat that in 2008, then-candidate Obama opined that all such negotiations be open to C-SPAN cameras.

“There are a number of things he was for on the campaign trail,” quipped Pelosi, who has no intention of making the deliberations public."

AP is saying "Obama prods

AP is saying "Obama prods Congress to pass health bill quickly ... encouraging them to bypass the usual negotiations between the two chambers ..." It seems that they are going to use an amended Senate bill. The question is will the House just dump all their work, just to keep the bribes that are in the Senate version? Of course it isn't expected that the democrats will follow any sort of normal procedure ... they get to make up the rules as they go.

Obama is keeping his promise

Obama is keeping his promise to be open and transparent ... "Obama himself will take a hands-on role, convening another meeting with congressional leaders at the White House on Wednesday. Pelosi, along with four other Democratic committee chairs, are expected to attend." ... I wonder if this is an open or a closed door meeting. It appears that the Republicans don't have any congressional leaders ... and why should the public have any idea about what is being forced down our throats.

The big question here is will

The big question here is will our representive (John Barrow) support this type of tactics. He voted against the House Bill because of the cost ... the senate bill doesn't fix this problem ... so will he vote against it again and work to ensure others vote against it. John stand and be counted as being concerned about what we are doing to our country.

IC ... I don't see anyone

IC ... I don't see anyone actually taking Obama's side on these issues. Nor do I see any answers that would even come close to justifying these tactics. Obama is working as a dictator and needs to be stopped. And I believe the vote was close enough in the House the first time ... we may have chance this time at killing the bill.
