Rants and Raves

Comments from our readers:

THIS IS A great big rave for photographer Rainier Ehrhardt for his wonderful picture of the Union Baptist Church and its pastor. I loved this picture when it was first published in the paper, and to me that is the best photograph of the year. Please show more of his work. Happy New Year to all of the staff.

PRESIDENT CARTER says if he had it to do over, if he had one more day as president, he'd use it to bring the "full weight of the White House to the (Middle East) peace process." Why didn't he "bring the full White House weight" when he was president? And does Carter think Americans haven't wised up to the con job lingo called "peace process"? Peace is an absence of war; thus it's no "process" at all.

JUST CURIOUS about how the local ministers feel about their young church members performing in a less than appropriate manner at Augusta Common functions, in the parades and even on television. Maybe they are expecting the parents to recognize that revealing costumes and suggestive movements are not "jazz," "modern dance" or "contemporary."

I WOULD LIKE to rave about Augusta Mall. Yes, I said rave. I went there the day before Christmas Eve to do some last-minute shopping. I hadn't been to the mall in over a year and was anxious with all the write-ups about groups of thugs and disrespectful shoppers. I was pleasantly surprised to find that even the young folks there were very courteous and going about their shopping without wearing inappropriate clothes or being unruly. Security was near where I parked when I arrived and when I left. Thank you for a pleasant experience.

THIS A RANT for printing only raves for your Christmas edition. I read this rag so I can enjoy the stupid rants the people of this community have.

I DON'T UNDERSTAND all the complaints about that newly painted wall on Highland Avenue. I was driving past it on the way back to Atlanta, and it is beautiful. My friend told me that more painting is to come and that the special paints will last over 20 years. If that is really the case, that is a boon to Augusta, in my book.

I WAS SHOCKED and saddened by the picture in The Augusta Chronicle of the young boy holding a beautiful wild goose that he had shot and killed in the Phinizy Swamp. Did his dad teach him to shoot this goose because their family needed it for food, or was that innocent creature killed just for the sport of it?

THE RANTER complaining about Obama traveling or spending any money is so obviously stupid. Who do you think you are to tell our president when and where he can go? He is not your puppet.

To the last ranter - if you

To the last ranter - if you are a taxpaying citizen in this country, you more than have the right to discuss what your president is or isn't doing and what money (our money) he is or isn't spending. As for this president being a puppet, maybe not but he sure seems to get his cues from Reid, Pelosi and others. He has played golf in one year while on duty more than Bush did in 8 years even though he caught grief for it. He has spent more taxpayers money in one year to no avail than Bush spent in 8 years and at the same time reduced our military spending and readiness. He as gone on more vacations and dinner dates in 1 year than Bush did in his first 2 years of office. He speeds home over a friends child that needs stitches but takes 3 days to speak about a terrorist act on an airplane in America and 6 months to respond to a General's request for more troops - give him what he needs or pull them out, I would support either but don't support being unable to decide about our national security. This President has let down all who supported him and has lied to us over and over so for those who thought we would get change, that appears thats all we are getting, change for the worst.

And, Bush did plenty wrong as

And, Bush did plenty wrong as I have stated in other posts because I do try to see both sides, etc. but frankly don't have a lot of trust anymore in any politicians. Bush made many mistakes with the war, failed to ensure tax cuts wouldn't end in 2010, gave money to GM and others which was ridiculous, etc. However, Obama has more than trippled all of that wasteful spending and is giving away everything just to pass a pathetic health care bill. What I don't understand is why so many support Obama no matter what, even when he flat out lies to them from taxes to Abu Gray Prison to health care reform, etc. Frankly, Reid, Pelosi and Frank are far worse for our country than Obama but not that much worse - but at least tell it like it is and stop standing up for someone just because of who they are. PLENTY of republicans expressed their displeasure with Bush for various decisions but it appears that in the liberal eyes or those who only see the race of Obama that they can't see past the BS and actually see just how detrimental his policies are to our country. Again, its not Obama, just his policies, nothing personal so don't go there...Reid, Pelosi and Frank are just the same....

Lets see we Pay the

Lets see we Pay the presidents salary, we pay for all his little perks and privaliages his health care so doesn't that make us his employer. 54% of the american populace hired this man who now has a approval rating in the mid 40's. How many people would stay gainfully employed with that type of rating? The military only gets 30 paid vacation days a year. Or earning 2.5 days amonth, so should the president get the same number of days.

Chad ... apparently we don’t

Chad ... apparently we don’t pay the President’s salary to protect us from terrorist. We seem to have to take personal responsibility for protection from this type of terrorism. Thanks to those that overcame the terrorist on Christmas Day; after the government failed in performing their job for the 2nd time in the last couple of months. Now who is ready to turn health care over to them also?

The only problem with

The only problem with appeasing them is that it only seems to allow them better access to practice their terrorism ... for instance Fort Hood.

Hugo Chavez says O'bama has

Hugo Chavez says O'bama has lost the "Illusion", Iran and N. Korea thumb their nose at our President. Terrorism (man made disasters) is on the rise. The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan both going badly. Unemployment almost doubled. Taxes going out of sight. Money is worth nothing. The only programs working for this administration are the ones left over from the previous admin. Bank execs and Ceos criticized but fannie and freddy mac in line for 6 million dollar bonuses.Tax cheats in charge of writing tax laws and the treasury. More corruption and less transparancy. Is this the "Hope and Change" we were Promised.
