Rants and raves

Comments from our readers:

THE COMMISSIONERS want another penny sales tax. They're mismanaging the funds they already have, yet they want more to spend on their special little projects. They need to shut down all these projects and use the funds they have to maintain services. The state is also talking about a penny increase in sales tax.

TO THE PERSON that wrote of a spoiled dog. Well, his name was UGA VII, and he was a symbol of the biggest school in the state of Georgia. Obviously you have no understanding of what it means to love an animal, your own or otherwise.

THIS IS FOR Fort Gordon. It would be a lot easier to make the turn off Lane Avenue onto 27th Street if the folks moving the orange barricades after morning PT would actually make an effort to get them out of the road. I know it's out of the question to expect them to be put completely out of the road and up on the curb, but if they could at least get them close to the curb that would be swell.

TO THE CONSTRUCTION worker that's worked for the same company for four years without a raise, go join a labor union and you will see a difference. When you join, you will have someone telling you not only when and where you will work but also "if" you will work. Don't cross him or say no to anything or you get the proverbial blackball. But whether you work or not, you still have dues to come up with. Been there, bought and wore the T-shirt.

ATLANTA HAS a Spaghetti Junction and a Malfunction Junction. I reckon Augusta's Interstate 20-Bobby Jones interchange can be called Macaroni Junction.

AS AN AUGUSTA resident for over 30 years, I believe the city should start fixing the things that are falling apart before worrying about TEE centers and trolley systems.

I WOULD LIKE to know why water runs constantly in the winter months on Belair Road at Wrightsboro Road but never in the spring or summer. In the winter the water freezes and creates a hazard to those who travel that way, not to mention the increased water bill for taxpayers. Maybe this is an issue the city can reasonably discuss before someone gets injured.

HEADLINE: "Leaders say momentum building on climate change." This despite the leak of thousands of stat-rigging e-mails written by climate "scientists." Thus, any "leader" who takes even a single step toward any kind of climate agreement is a bona fide criminal, corrupt in every way.

RAVER WRITES THAT Oprah "has done more good with her fame and money than any other." If dragging abnormal behavior onto television and acting like it's normal is "good," maybe. If aberrant behavior is bad, then the raver has been taken.

Oh and don't forget the

Oh and don't forget the war-tax that some in Congress are considering. I don't care what government entity it is they ALL seem to want to charge their citizens more to do more instead of tightening their belt and making due with what they have. Government never thinks about maintaining themselves. They are too busy trying to use your tax dollars to buy whatever fancys them at the moment.

RANTER thinks world leaders

RANTER thinks world leaders are criminal if they make agreements on climate - Hopefully the world's leaders will go to Copenhagen and begin cleaning up our fouled world. Today's climate skeptics are like the tobacco skeptics of a few years ago. There're always a few in denial. People in the United States and in Europe are less concerned about the problem while they're largely responsible for it. Meanwhile, the people in South America and Africa are more concerned with the problem but they're only miniscule polluters. The guilty are the least bothered. Or the ones who want to change least.

Who cares about Tiger's

Who cares about Tiger's little accident or little spat. He is not an elected official. For crying out loud, he plays golf for a living. I hope he never opens his mouth - he doesn't open it too wide at interviews anyway. Whatever, and hello! hello!

And I'm assuming

And I'm assuming gaspringwater that you don't find it the least bit convienent that the Climatic Research Unit of the University of East Anglia (the LEADING authority on Golbal Warming) disposed of all their raw data supposedly proving global warming while they had e-mails that expressed concern about the lack of evidence to prove the threat of global warming and even made one reference to a plan to "hide the decline" in temperatures.

Why is it that when people have valid complaints for the city they post them on R&R instead of notifying anyone?

overburdened_taxpayer - There

overburdened_taxpayer - There are a few hundred mostly lawyers on capital hill and they fight, squabble and accuse each other, some don't like others. There are around 2,800 scientist involved in the climate association your talking about. And they do some of the same things the lawyers on capital hill do. They fight, squabble and accuse each other, and some don't like other. But that's just human vices and it does not negate the world's climate problem. Its no smoking gun.

You didn't say anything about

You didn't say anything about how convienent it was that they disposed of the raw data to get where they are. Without that it's a "trust us" situation.

That the suspected killer of

That the suspected killer of the four peace officers is dead moves me not at all; what does trouble me, though, is the nagging feeling that had this suspect murdered a plain old taxpayer, I wonder if he would have been captured and brought to trial. I know there is a chorus of 'hanging is too good for him!' but we do have a system of justice. This street justice goes along with the popular observation there are two systems of laws: one for the police and another for ordinary citizens.

Yeah, OT, CBBP, I do; it's called seeing both sides of the situation. It's what grownups do. I would love to see more information so I COULD eliminate street justice as a motive. Instead, the media is focused on Tiger Woods, and the comments on what happened are little more than childish sniping.

For those who think the

For those who think the suspects death was nothing but street justice, put yourself in the police's shoes. The guy already showed what level of violence he was capable of. I figure the guys that had to get him wanted to make sure they made it home to their families, instead of taking a chance on ending up like their four comrades. I'm not sorry for him one bit.

My point is there probably

My point is there probably won't be any analysis, and damn few details. The only post shooting 'information' we are being given is photgraphy of a group of officers shaking hands and high-fiving. As this morality play has played out, bad guy dead-good guys triumphant, this story will drop from the news cycle. And we'll never know what really happened. Of course that is enough for most people .... until it happens again.

All those so-called

All those so-called scientists aren't all scientists. The main goal of the 'global warming' is to get money from the US. prezbho going to the 'global warming' meeting, is all show. The main thing is that he will be on his way to get his un-derserved nobel prize.

Stew, let me know when you place yourself in danger for someone else if your perception doesn't change. Should he have killed a few more cops to prove the point to you? What would you like to know next? Maybe what the four dead cops did to provoke the first shooting?

RE: NA Augusta Officer Fired.

RE: NA Augusta Officer Fired. I guess no one read the police report which you can get online. She was the one with the gun and fired it. She amitted this. He took the gun from her and placed it in the truck. She then tried to get back in the truck were he did pull her out of the truck for her own safety and she fell. She amitted to this too. He is the one who call 911 because he was afraid of her hurting herself. She did not want to press charges. Ya'll need to the read the report before you convicte him without a trial and ruin his life.

I have to agree with the

I have to agree with the water problem we have on Belair Rd. On the Belair Rd street that leads to Wrightsboro Rd, they had sprinklers going on a very cold day earlier this year and it caused black ice and I slid on it with my kids in the car. I was so scared, was not even speeding, and there was no reason for the sprinklers to be running like that. I didn't wreck and I'm very thankful for that, but someone should look into it.
