Rants and raves

COLUMBIA COUNTY: Why is the 25-foot right-of-way not enforced on Ray Owens Road?

HEADLINE: "Ecology research to thrive." Taxpayers go broke, but a snail or obscure fish or something will live nicely, thank you.

WHILE THE GOVERNMENT spends us into the poor house, do you wonder where YOUR money is going? How about to the Savannah River Ecology Lab for "ecological organization." Now doesn't that sound like something to sing about?

COLUMBIA COUNTY enforces the Handicap Parking Law - $120 if you do not have a handicap sticker or tag. Think of all the money Richmond County could have if they enforced this rule. If they need money, this is one good way to get it.

THE HOUSE FINANCIAL Services Committee "voted to create a federal agency to protect consumers ..." How many federal agencies already exist to "protect" Americans, and how many failed miserably, thus setting up the present financial mess? Dozens. And not a one did its job. Why not? Because the powers that be manipulate the whole thing. A new government agency is just another government scam to make suckers think they're protected.

SO, CROSS CREEK wants to be the model school for Richmond County. They need to do some in-house re-evaluations first. Like why is administration causing the morale problems. Solve the problems your staff are having first, then all things will fall into place. Make yourself more available. Back your teachers up, when it comes to discipline problems. The officers should be there to enforce rules, only. Paperwork is important, but people are more important. Smile once in a while.

EVERY DAY THEY say pull your pants up, tuck your shirt in, no bookbags. Kids know by now this is not acceptable. Why does this continue, because the rules are not enforced. NOT ENFORCED! That's why.

ONE OF OBAMA'S Chicago henchmen, Durbin, "elbowed" a bill into the Senate that gives the very unprofessional FDA "new powers to oversee the nation's food supply." The bill had "bipartisan support." Obama continues to move very fast in every necessary area of life, e.g., health, food, you name it, to grab for total dictatorial power.

THIS IS A HUGE RANT against Columbia County decision-makers who have raped the forest adjacent to the county library. What on earth were they thinking? Well, they obviously weren't thinking about the Earth, much less the fact the playground is now going to be right next to a scraped-earth sea of asphalt. You couldn't have left enough trees for shade, for squirrels, for birds? And I'm sure the folks whose backyards are adjacent to this eyesore are enjoying watching their already lower property values fall through the floor. You may as well allow the Marshall Square developers to build all the apartments they want now. Morons.

.......anyway....WAY back in

.......anyway....WAY back in the day, Sconyers had it going on. I guess when one thinks they have become very reputable, they can begin cutting back on quality. It will eventually come back to haunt.

Catered BBQ= The Smokin' Pig

Catered BBQ= The Smokin' Pig in Beech Island, Big Oak BBQ on Hwy 23 in Burke County, Bubba's BBQ in Waynesboro to name a few.. Hash has no vegetables in it other than onion, Brunswick stew has vegetables in it.. The Smokin Pig has the best hash and Big Oak BBQ has fantastic Brunswick Stew. All have huge portions and wonderful old recipe flavor.

Since Richard Sconyers passed

Since Richard Sconyers passed away, Sconyers BBQ is not very good. When Richard ran the kitchen and supervised all the cooking it was awesome.

I ate at Sconyers "back in

I ate at Sconyers "back in the day" as well and used to love it. You would sit down and they would bring out a loaf of white bread and split it in half. The waitresses had these low cut uniforms on. When they would serve you it was cleaveage city. Cleaveage and BBQ, mmm, mmm.

Oh, and broth from cooking

Oh, and broth from cooking the meats. You need to have a grinder to grind up the meat after it has been cooked. Recipe comes from a hometown local very popular BBQ place, but a relative claims to have given them the recipe 6 or more decades ago.

I 100% understand their

I 100% understand their intent, Corgimom. But wouldn't metal detectors be much more effective at finding weapons? As a person who went to school when these rules were first enforced (I graduated from high school in Columbia County in 2002), I really don't think those dress code rules will stop a person from finding a way to hide a gun or a knife on them. I remember talking with friends about how easily a person could hide something inside their tucked-in shirt just by letting it hang a little loose over their pants...

I did not see any Rants Or

I did not see any Rants Or Raves about BBQ.
Also what did being Mayor have to do with BBQ?
There is nothing at Sconyers that looks or taste like potted meat. Only the finest hams are used to make that BBQ.
I think some people are just jealous of others sucess.

I like the sliced turkey from Sconyers, but I don't think I could eat chopped turkey BBQ. I have heard Memphis has some great BBQ restaurants. When Sconyers made the Top 10 in People Magazine, there was a Memphis restaurant on the list also.

Notasheep, metal detectors at

Notasheep, metal detectors at school don't work well. All you have to do is hide the weapon and get it the next day, or toss it over the fence, walk through, and go get it. It also creates a terrible bottleneck at the entrances, plus you need an officer at every single entry point, and that's very hard to do. Tucking shirts in works better. It's free and a shirt is either tucked in, or it isn't.
