Rants and raves

COLUMBIA COUNTY: Why is the 25-foot right-of-way not enforced on Ray Owens Road?

HEADLINE: "Ecology research to thrive." Taxpayers go broke, but a snail or obscure fish or something will live nicely, thank you.

WHILE THE GOVERNMENT spends us into the poor house, do you wonder where YOUR money is going? How about to the Savannah River Ecology Lab for "ecological organization." Now doesn't that sound like something to sing about?

COLUMBIA COUNTY enforces the Handicap Parking Law - $120 if you do not have a handicap sticker or tag. Think of all the money Richmond County could have if they enforced this rule. If they need money, this is one good way to get it.

THE HOUSE FINANCIAL Services Committee "voted to create a federal agency to protect consumers ..." How many federal agencies already exist to "protect" Americans, and how many failed miserably, thus setting up the present financial mess? Dozens. And not a one did its job. Why not? Because the powers that be manipulate the whole thing. A new government agency is just another government scam to make suckers think they're protected.

SO, CROSS CREEK wants to be the model school for Richmond County. They need to do some in-house re-evaluations first. Like why is administration causing the morale problems. Solve the problems your staff are having first, then all things will fall into place. Make yourself more available. Back your teachers up, when it comes to discipline problems. The officers should be there to enforce rules, only. Paperwork is important, but people are more important. Smile once in a while.

EVERY DAY THEY say pull your pants up, tuck your shirt in, no bookbags. Kids know by now this is not acceptable. Why does this continue, because the rules are not enforced. NOT ENFORCED! That's why.

ONE OF OBAMA'S Chicago henchmen, Durbin, "elbowed" a bill into the Senate that gives the very unprofessional FDA "new powers to oversee the nation's food supply." The bill had "bipartisan support." Obama continues to move very fast in every necessary area of life, e.g., health, food, you name it, to grab for total dictatorial power.

THIS IS A HUGE RANT against Columbia County decision-makers who have raped the forest adjacent to the county library. What on earth were they thinking? Well, they obviously weren't thinking about the Earth, much less the fact the playground is now going to be right next to a scraped-earth sea of asphalt. You couldn't have left enough trees for shade, for squirrels, for birds? And I'm sure the folks whose backyards are adjacent to this eyesore are enjoying watching their already lower property values fall through the floor. You may as well allow the Marshall Square developers to build all the apartments they want now. Morons.

It is clear where our tax

It is clear where our tax money is going under this administration since over 30 million in stimulus funds were issued to companies already under investigation by our government for fraud and deception from previous contracts. Now that the media has enlightened us (Fox had the story first) the government is looking into it but can't repeall the contracts or cancel the funding so more money goes to companies already acused of cheating the taxpayers in the past. It amazes me that anyone would want the government to take over our health care with issues such as this, agencies such as the US Post Office and the fact that flu shots are not available for a large majority of our population at this time. It is time for change all right but unfortunately it can't come soon enough.

To dclark1983: Lost your ever

To dclark1983: Lost your ever loving mind ? Sconyers is as good as it gets. You can't get the T-Loin (low fat and good), other BBQ, hash/rice, pickles, tea, cole slaw, potato salad, skins, chicken, beef, etc. anywhere near Augusta except Sconyers. You've heard of Larry the Plumber, well now you've heard of Larry the BBQ Place. And don't you forget it.

While I enjoyed my only visit to Sconyers, my wife detested it. Guess how many times we've been back? ;-)

Sconyers serves cat meat.

Sconyers serves cat meat. Come to the country to have some real "hash" as you call it. I could not finish my plate. That food was a disgrace to BBQ.

There are countless BBQ

There are countless BBQ outlets throughout the CSRA which put Sconyers to shame. Some of the best are just set up on the corner of a lot, serving those who happen by. You meet the best people, get the best food, and get to experience part of the CSRA that you just can't get any better anywhere else.

MSNBC's Contessa Brewer made

MSNBC's Contessa Brewer made an embarrassing mistake on the air last week. She called Jesse Jackson, “Al Sharpton.” Even worse than that, after he told her, "I'm Jesse Jackson," she said, “Are you the one that is in between Jermaine and Tito?” ~ Jay Leno

Jimmy Fallon - President

Jimmy Fallon - President Obama just declared the swine flu outbreak a national emergency. First the swine flu’s a big threat, then it’s not, then it is. Make up your mind. This thing’s like the Brett Favre of infectious diseases.

My neck of the woods, we call it brunswick stew and not hash.... Neal's in Harlem and the Washington Market in Washington, GA has good stuff. The best stuff is sold by someone who pit cooked the hog themselves. My family used to do it twice a year. Best BBQ and stew you ever had!

To dclark1983: Brunswick Stew

To dclark1983: Brunswick Stew is not Hash. If you eat at Sconyers and want Brunswick Stew, take you a can of corn and dump it in his hash. Shaboom !!! As Billy Mays would say, you now have BBQ and Brunswick Stew. By the way, there's a reason you never see any of these other BBQ places catering anywhere.
Maybe Bobby's (which is pretty good), but that's it.

"EVERY DAY THEY say pull your pants up, tuck your shirt in, no bookbags. Kids know by now this is not acceptable. Why does this continue, because the rules are not enforced. NOT ENFORCED! That's why." Wait, is 'no bookbags' really a rule now? Since when? And maybe they just need to drop these rules and focus more energy on how to get the quality of education higher. And I'm not a fan of a sloppy look, but tucking in shirts and keeping pants at the waist isn't going to stop crime.

Unfortunately, children now

Unfortunately, children now go to school with gang members and convicted felons, not to mention seriously disturbed children. It's not a side issue at all but a SAFETY ISSUE. They are doing it so kids can't smuggle guns into a school. Don't you understand that?
