Rants and raves

Comments from our readers:

THIS IS IN RESPONSE to the crossing guard statement. Crossing guards are probably the lowest-paid city employees. When the city and the county consolidated, we lost more than half our sick days. It's not a high-paying job, and it's not a lot of hours. But we're out there when it's 20-degree weather or 90-degree weather. We need to be appreciated a lot more.

THIRTY YEARS AGO, Jimmy Carter squandered his golden opportunity. Now poor old Jimmy Carter is still trying to make himself significant. This time he's stirring the cauldron of racial discord. Carter's incompetence as president made Georgians the butt of jokes nationwide. Having a president from your state is only good if he's good.

PERHAPS IF MR. WILSON had said, "Sir, I believe you do not tell the truth," that would be acceptable, because what he said was just perhaps a bit rude, but it was the truth.

THIS IS A RANT to the person that stated that the people of South Carolina do not know how to elect someone who is not stupid. Metaphorically speaking, that is like a skunk telling a possum that its breath stinks when you consider the elected officials from Georgia. That list includes but is not limited to Ed McIntyre, Charles Walker, Marion Williams, Cynthia McKinney and Jimmy Carter. And please don't forget that in the last presidential election Richmond County went for Obama.

EVEN WHILE the economy continues to kill all of us, government continues to spend and waste like crazy. Now the FAA is blowing $1 million to add 300 feet to the Thomson airport. The story mentions a "hangar access road," which can't be very long or wide. So add another 100 feet to the runway for estimating purposes and it comes out 400 feet of paving at a cost of $1 million. Is that $2,500 per foot? As usual, government thinks it's heaven and paves with gold.

WHILE THE POLICE are hopefully cracking down on the cars violating the noise ordinance on Glenn Hills Drive, could they slow down the speeders going 10-15 miles over the speed limit, too? That includes school buses, school safety officers and regular vehicles. If you go the speed limit, you get tailgated the whole way.

FURLOUGH MEANS "a leave of absence from duty." For Richmond County to require teachers to work on what they call "furlough" is shameful. If you aren't going to pay them, then they shouldn't have to work. Close the schools. Then someone will get a strong message.

justa.....yea i know what

justa.....yea i know what they say about assumptions.......do you?......must not because you made a few there yourself......did i say what type of highway, did i say there were kids on it?.......as you must obviously be aware, the speed a bus is allowed to travel at is according to the highway it is on, for what purpose it is being driven, and if children are being loaded and unloaded during their transportation........and regardless, 35 still isn't 40 and if the driver or bus can't do your 40mph then they shouldn't be on the road

CEIT Pro. I must give all of

CEIT Pro. I must give all of the credit to Cobalt George in his 10:48 AM post. His post of 9 minutes later has some emotion to it, but is also a true statement. Unlike Cobalt, I do not feel sorry for anybody, especially people who whine and complain all of the live long day.

I feel sorry for anyone who

I feel sorry for anyone who doesn't take advantage of America's great opportunity to succeed regardless of race, sex, or economic background, for they are the loser regardless of political affiliation. Let those who would suck from public welfare enjoy their standard of living they chose, and let those who rose above their own trials and tribulations enjoy the life earned by that choice. Choice, make it, take it and live with it.

CEIT, I hear you but I never

CEIT, I hear you but I never really got a big thing out of flags. To me they are just textile symbols. I feel the same patriotism but inside and not outside.

And I would also agree with

And I would also agree with your determination to do better because the welfare system is just subsistence and certainly no get rich quick scheme. But I guess if you have nothing and you are trying to do better it is some help. Start early I say with an excellent education. I've never been unemployed and probably never will be; and it is only because I've got a great education and a special trade.

Ot, you make it seem so

Ot, you make it seem so simple, if people want to whine about there hated jobs, they have the right to do so. Do you know something the general public doesn't? Are they handing out jobs right now??
Thanks for the report ahsan, you get up with the chickens so you prolly beat the actual news on that one! lol
I agree about the flag comments, you don't see many nowadays, but on the same lines, you don't see holiday decorations anymore either. Years ago they were everywhere!! Now, good luck.

to many of us our flag is

to many of us our flag is much more than a textile!!....many have shed blood and died under and for that symbol of our country....husbands, wives, sons, and daughters have come home with it draped on their caskets....mothers have had those flags placed into their arms....ask them if they would then take that flag and throw it in the garbage....if you don't feel that way then you are welcome to that opinion, after all it is for that right that so many of them did sacrifice so much....but by the same token, don't disrespect someone else's feelings who does not agree with you, and don't disrespect our flag....many other countries feel just as strongly about their flags....one thing that really bothers me here is that we let people, in protest, burn our flag in the streets as if it is garbage....in many other countries those people would be arrested if they did that to the flag of those nations....but not here, it is freedom of speech....BULL CRAP....imho anyone who does that to our flag should be deported, even if they are a us citizen....you don't have to love it, you don't have to like it, but don't disrerspect it....that flag and the men and women who support it shield you everyday

Once again, everything that

Once again, everything that you have said only makes me feel more that the flag is just a symbol. It's how you feel about the ultimate sacrifice that really counts and not how it is wrapped.

well....what else could one

well....what else could one expect from a self proclaimed socialist...."but quite apart from that the necessary result of socialism is to weaken the ties of patriotism. socialists disclaim anarchism, and in a majority of cases doubtless do so honestly, but nevertheless anarchism is the logical result of socialism, not by its murderous methods, but by its profound antipathy to society as at present constituted"

Niko Mahs, do you have anyone

Niko Mahs, do you have anyone in your family that has served in the US armed service? It's hard for me to believe that someone would say that our flag is just a symbol...do you not have any American patriotic pride? As for the discussion on the school bus speed. I understand that you might get aggravated when a bus is only going 35 mph but take it from someone who drove a loaded school bus with 60 elementary school children for two years while in high school (yes this has been many moons ago), the time it takes to stop a moving school bus going 35 mph, especially loaded with 60 precious cargo, is unbelievable. So next time you want to hurry that bus along, remember for whatever reason that driver must stop, it's going to take several bus lengths. Use to be the mandatory fastest speed we could travel was 35 mph and if we messed with the governors on those buses we were fired.

Lots of my relatives have served. I never did since my birthday was in the very high 200's on ping pong drawing day. And school buses should slow down and so should all drivers.

icl....thank you for your

icl....thank you for your comments on the flag issue, however, once again, did i say there were kids on the bus..."there were no kids on the bus"...it was empty except for the driver, and not only was it only doing 35 but it also pulled out in front of me and proceeded to go 35, except when it was going up hill, then it went a whopping 25mph....now put the shoe on the other foot....what if that bus had been loaded with max capacity of 79 precious cargo and then pulled out in front of someone who was not able to stop in time....if all they are allowed to go is 35 to 40 then they need to stop pulling out in front of people

truthisstillhere, I

truthisstillhere, I understand your complaint about the slow bus, I was just making a statement about why buses go so slow...not justifying anything...just making a statement. I agree when a bus load full of children pull out in front of traffic, it's nothing but stupidity. Only defense is when you see a bus (or any vehicle for that matter now a days), be prepared for anything.

It's proven that you will

It's proven that you will save Thousands by hanging on to that PAID OFF gas-guzzling clunker instead of buying a new car. I hope they enjoy their new car payments for the next 5-6 years. I have the money but I'm not stupid enough to run out and buy a new car. I'll enjoy getting 15 miles to the gallon in my paid off vehicle.

If they had the money to buy

If they had the money to buy cars they would have done it by now. This is another attempt ala, Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae to put people who can't afford something( cars, houses etc.)into something they can't afford. Wonder how many repos there will be in six months?

Irish and CBBP where are you
Unpublished

Irish and CBBP where are you getting your C4C tax liability information from? This is mine from CARS .GOV FAQ "Is the credit subject to being taxed as income to the consumers that participate in the program? NO. The CARS Act expressly provides that the credit is not income for the consumer." Futher answers indicate that the credit may have a local or state liability, but that should be offset by the sales tax refund.
