Rants and Raves

Comments from our readers:

HOORAH FOR MICHAEL VICK going with the Eagles. I wish it could have been with Atlanta, but I'm glad he is back. I know what he did to dogs was wrong, but I still can't get over how these animal rights people and our unfair legal system treated him. People in this country are so lost for things to worry about that they now think pets are as important as people.

TO THE PERSON or persons who complained about children under 6 years old being in the church sanctuary during regular services: First, you do not know what type of religious concept this child or children have of God. And secondly, if you have never had children yourself, you would not know how to properly deal with a child. I suggest that you let the parents decide what is right and wrong for their own children, not you.

RANTS TO THE principal at Cross Creek High School for not allowing book bags. I assume he and the school board are going to be understanding when a kid's textbook is ruined by rain and we taxpayers will not be required to pay for it. Just another rule to keep from addressing a growing juvenile gang problem. This "see no evil" mentality also affects good kids.

THIS IS A RANT to the EMT I saw getting into a vehicle parked in a handicapped space at Wal-Mart. Shame on you! I wouldn't think that an EMT would be handicapped and be able to properly perform the job.

A U.S. SENATE delegation is flying to Iraq. Why? The Senate has no constitutional authority in foreign policy, and the trip is costing a fortune. It can only be an expensive ego trip for a few senators.

THIS IS A RANT for people who don't know what the phrase "limited visibility" means. It means whenever it is cloudy, raining, the street lights are on in order for you to see where you are going. This is especially for those of you who drive dark-colored vehicles that are hard to see in the dark. For your safety and the safety of others on the road, turn on your headlights.

THE GRANITEVILLE water fight is a local example of what's happening in government at every level. Citizens are outvoted by those elected to "serve" those same citizens. Water rates jump up seven or eight times. That's just dictatorship by a few arrogant airheads.

SOME HIGH SCHOOL students are also enrolled in college. That has never made any sense. If you graduated from high school with good enough grades, then fine, go to college. But this nonsense of being a student in both is just one more modern and absurd way to con kids into thinking they've been "educated."

Michael Vick serverd his time

Michael Vick serverd his time and I am glad he has been given an opportunity to take back his live and become a productive tax paying citizen again vs. being a drain on society. As for those "animal lovers" out there that take things to the extreme of PETA, get a life - some of you care more about dogs and other animals than human beings. There is more outrage about hurting animals from many than there seems to be over robberies and other violent acts agains humans. As for Cross Creek - most all rules and laws are created due to the actions of a few bad people in our society. This is a school with over 1,000 students and they must make decisions on the safety of all students vs. the few. Back packs and other type items make it easier for the criminal element to transport drugs and weapons on campus and although it can still happen, they are trying their best to reduce incidents of crime on campus and who could possibly rant against that. These Senators going to Iraq need to be doing so on their dime, not ours -- good luck with that though. And congrats to any HS senior who is capable of handling both college and HS courses. Have a great day.

If a HS student wants to

If a HS student wants to begin college classes, what's it to you? You probably don't want students taking AP classes or CLEPing out of classes either, right? If it will save them tuition money and time in college, who cares? Go for it!

A RANT to the Obama

A RANT to the Obama administration for shutting down the snitch email address. I was having a great time forwarding every fishy email that I got. They have shut down the flag@whitehouse.gov email with the following reply message: "The email address you just sent a message to is no longer in service. We are now accepting your feedback about health insurance reform via: http://www.whitehouse.gov/realitycheck ". Let's see how long it takes to break this one too. Change you can believe in! We can do it!

ats - Was he parked in a

ats - Was he parked in a disabled spot or did he just have the tag? Many folks have a disabled family member and have the tag/permit even when the person is not with them. I had one for my father, but I never used the blue spaces when he wasn't with me. I really hope you are not talking about a DV (disabled veteran) tag parked in a regular parking space.

According to the Georgia DMV

According to the Georgia DMV a person having any of or a combination of the following are considered Handicap and eligible for a handicap placard. Hearing impaired, Cannot walk more than 200 feet with out stopping to take a rest, Cannot walk with out assistance or needs a wheelchair, Lung disease or severe difficulty breathing, Uses portable oxygen, has severe cardiac condition, is blind, or has limited walking ability due to arthritic, neurological, or orthopedic condition or complications due to pregnancy. An application for handicap parking (form MV-9d) must be filled out by the certifying doctor and notarized. This form is then taken to the DMV and a placard or tag will then be issued. How many of the above condition can be seen from the naked eye as your driving through the parking lot.

This is such a bunch of

This is such a bunch of bovine scatology even I find it hard to believe: "Shapiro said in the statement: “The White House e-mail list is made up of e-mail addresses obtained solely through the White House website. The White House doesn't purchase, upload or merge from any other list. … [A]ll e-mails come from the White House website as we have no interest in emailing anyone who does not want to receive an email.

“If an individual received the e-mail because someone else or a group signed them up or forwarded the email, we hope they were not too inconvenienced. Further, we suggest that they unsubscribe from the list by clicking the link at the bottom of the e-mail or tell whomever forwarded it to them not to forward such information anymore.” The entire story can be found at: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0809/26169.html

Clear bookbags have been

Clear bookbags have been required at schools across the country for years now. Cross Creek should look into it. Problem being if they require the clear bookbags, parents are then going to complain about that too and expect the school to pay for it.

Enforcement of Immigration

Enforcement of Immigration laws and border security need to come next. Stay just as mad as you were over socialized medicine....DEMAND to be heard and DEMAND ACTION. We are giving away our children's future and the freedoms someone fought and bled and died to preserve and insure.

Has anyone ever heard of

Has anyone ever heard of double jeopardy? And no its not a game show!! Michael Vick has already been charged, convicted and completed his sentence for his crime. Get over it already, this man is being charged over and over for a crime he has already paid for. He is no different than any other person who has been released from prison.

Michael Vick should have been

Michael Vick should have been banned for life from playing in ANY sport; Pete Rose and others were banned for lesser infractions and a few for more serious infractions. Why should MV be any different? He could have opted for a different career and not been a "burden" on society. As for the WH snitch program, why is this a surprise to anyone?

I believe handicapped people

I believe handicapped people should have equal rights to walk in from the back of the parking lot, just like I do. I've noticed that a lot of people you see in HC vehicles walk perfectly well, drive perfectly well, and seem to have no problem bellying up to the buffet table, either. But of course, we have become such a nation of whiny enablers, pretty soon we might all qualify for HC tags, then they'll have to turn entire parking lots into HC spots, which means they'll then have to start classifying the degree of handicappedness in order to see who gets the most primo, up-by-the-front-door slots, which will then lead to HC wars and violence of unforeseen propensities. Better start riding your bicycles. The rack for these, if there is one, is always by the front door and there aren't any HC stickers on them, either.

There IS double jeopardy in

There IS double jeopardy in professional sports. Rose was gambling. He was prosecuted for tax evasion AND banned from baseball for life for violating the rules of baseball. I don't agree with him being banned for life, but it happened. Vick was gambling, treating dogs inhumanely, and executing dogs. He violated league gambling rules, he violated his the ethics clause of his contract, and he violated animal cruelty laws. Rose was banned mainly because he was a "fallen hero". Vick certainly fits the same bill. My guess is that if Vick had not been lucky enough to get to play football he would be sticking up 7-11s for a living because he is just a thug that hit the big time. But Rose and Vick are treated differently. We all know why. Rose was a white guy that "should have known better". Vick is a black guy so "take a free pass". Maybe what is being said is that the professional sports leagues hold white guys to a higher standard than the black guys. Both of these guys deserved the criminal prosecutions but thier judicial punishment has nothing to do with what the leagues do with their careers in sports. Rose was banned for life for what was a much less heinous activity as Vick's. PASS
